Pagan friendly homestead
We are planning on moving to a place that we can begin homesteading. Any of you who are doing this ... did you look for or have you found pagan friendly areas that are also good for homesteading (availability of many acres, etc)?? Seems like several places we've looked at have a lower concentration of ... open-minded people, shall we say? lol
Thanks!!

Re: Pagan friendly homestead
Hello and welcome!!!
We only have a few members who are currently homesteading on any scale. Most of us do some kind of it, but sometimes that just means some potted plants, etc.
That being said, I do know that people in my area have started to 'clump' in homesteading communities. There are a LOT just east of Austin and most that I know aren't of the typical Christian tilt. I don't personally know any pagan homesteaders out there but I doubt anyone would bat an eye if someone was open about it.
So I think the thing to do would be to find an area where lots of new homesteaders are moving and make sure it's just not for Christian religious reasons. I know there are quite a few in that vein as well.
What part of the world do you currently live in? Where are you looking to move?

Re: Pagan friendly homestead
There are not many places in the US where Paganism is welcome - I have heard of tolerance in PA, near the welsh name area, but can't confirm it. I tend to not care what people think - I am a working Pagan, doing things that most people wouldn't believe anyway - I am a homesteader by nature, but am between homesteads right now, thanks to liars and swindlers, but never mind.
Welcome to this friendly porch, hopefully you will stay, and bide a while.

Re: Pagan friendly homestead
Hi, Amygrimis, and welcome to the Porch!!
It's really rather difficult to pinpoint any place that is very open to Paganism in any form. Homesteading, however, is another matter! People tend to love the idea, until they realize it's Pagan owned.
I live in the middle of the Bible Belt, and I can tell you that here, it's extremely Christian. Not many know of my preferences, and I was told by some good friends to watch who I tell. I am an officer on the local Arts Council (it's all volunteer, but it still matters about religious preference apparently), so to keep the 'natives' happy, I don't flaunt my preference. It makes it rather hard at times. Just so you know, I am in Upper Northeast Tennessee....NOT a good place if you intend to let others know.
We don't exactly homestead here, either, as we don't own the farm we live on. We have a rather large garden, and have recently gotten some chickens and are now enjoying a bounty of eggs. That is about the extent of our homesteading.
Peronally, I think you'd have better luck in some of Western or Northern states, as they seem to be more tolerant than the Eastern and Southern states.
I wish you much luck on your search...please keep us posted on how things are going, and what you find.
I look forward to hearing more about what you're wanting in a homestead, and about you.
