Re: Homesteading: Your version?

We have 189 acres, of which 21 or so is pastured/fenced. Of that there are many mature trees inside the pasture to provide shade for the livestock and roosts for the turkeys (which are all gone now thanks to some well fed bobcats)The rest is woods or going back to woods. We do not allow hunting or "cleaning up brush for firewood" aka logging, and each year we have been seeing a few more woodpeckers and a few more eastern bluebirds. We have this pair of really big woodpeckers that we see now and then, (well, I see now and then they skedattle if anyone else is outside)they have a very freaky call that they only seem to do when flying and they fly in a very up and down fashion, like they want to glide but are too heavy to.
