Rambling Thought/Question

Who am I?

It seems not long ago I knew that answer, but of late, I find myself questioning and examine all that is me.

I started life being told who I was, my parents’ child, catholic, oldest sister, good girl, above average student and friend. Then the harder comments some from important people some not; a misfit, teacher’s pet, sinner, not worthy, chicken, enemy, goody two shoes, crazy, kind hearted, and different.

Then I started to read, research, and define myself. I soon found I was more than others saw, more then just what a label stood for. Yet here I am 30 years later and I still have people trying to force me into or under a label.

I cannot even label myself. I thought I was Wiccan yet by tradition since I was never instructed by a coven I have no true line to Wicca.

I cannot claim Heritage Witch, even though the stories and family line point that this may have been possible. My great grandmother passed before I was born and my grandmother did not pass any instruction down. I only have the few things that for years I thought were just superstition but not what a fu; tradition would be.

Many things come to me in meditation and visions and these things work which has some labeling me as a natural witch. However, many argue that no one can be a natural witch you must train so alias this is not a label I can wear either.

Shaman is not a proper label as so many are stealing and twisting the Native Heritage and traditions. Far too much has been taken from these great people already without their faith being stolen as well.

Psychic is not my title, my family shows a certain skill for it but those that could have helped me on this path ran in fear from their skill and discouraged it in sisters and myself. It was done out of love but has me starting from the beginning to gain what was once easy.

I have long since left any accepted faith. Even though I see the greatness in the teachings of Jesus, I cannot suffer the injustice of what men have done to his teaching. Causing fear to control others, to gain money for their pockets, and to hold down those that could help this world. Therefore, the label of Christian does not fit.

I like Pagan though that word has come to be umbrella term that has slowly changed meaning over the last 100 years or so. From being a country dweller to being one that is not Christian.

I believe in reincarnation and heaven/Summerland. I believe we choose if we come back or rest.

Hell is here on earth those that warrant Hell have no choice no review of their lessons they return here lost and to start over.

Angels exist as do Spirit Guides, Animal guide, Dieties, and a Creator that I believe in my heat is niether male nor female and has more facets and personalities then we can fathom. Therefore, since I believe in a single Supreme Being I must be a monotheist yet since I believe that Being is multi faced I may be a polytheist.

I have an energy that I can focus and use. Other can sense and feel the energy within and around me. Yet I have little training on applying and using this energy. I have helped others with healing and have healed myself yet does that make me a Healer? I cannot heal those that wish not to be heal or do not want my help.

I love nature I believe there is a life force/energy in everything; people, animal, plants, rocks in every thing seen an unseen. I believe that there are many lessons to be learned from just watch nature around us. I think that plants and animals offer us knowledge if we would just take the time to listen. I try to live as lightly on this earth as I can. doing things to preserve nature and all her creatures.

I believe in Magick I believe we can use it to help others and ourselves. I believe that we can alter events and draw things to us. I think with this comes great response ability. We have to be willing to accept the consequences for our action. Magick is a prayer in action.

Who am I? Who are any of us? Are we what others say we are? Alternatively, are we what we believe we are? Are we a label or are we a combination of what people say? On the other hand, a combination of all we think we are, what other think we are and what we do?

To me it is not always simple I am the forever student, the human lost in the vast Universe searching for the answers, wanting the knowledge of the ages. Hoping that I find the answers and hoping those answers lead to more knowledge and more questions.

Depending on who you talk to, you do not have to study under a coven to be Wiccan. You can't be a true healer if you think you can heal those who don't want your help. You can not help people who don't want it...or who won't help themselves. You don't have to have a lineage to be a natural Witch, and just because you had no instruction, doesn't mean you're not a Heritage Witch. Nor does the lack of ancestral acknowlegement mean you're not a Heritage Witch (I am, and it was never mentioned or acknowledged)

It's not always a good thing to know exactly who we are. If we always know, then we're not growing. We change as we grow, therefore, what/who we are is in perpetual change. Don't worry about having a "label". Labels are not important. The only important thing is that you know what you know..when you know it. Beyond that, there is nothing. Keep learning, keep changing, keep growing. That is all that is really required of us.
Blessings Sister!!

"Magick is a prayer in action..."

"I am the forever student..."

Oooh, your post was wonderful. The above two statements especially resonated with me. I have a tough time labeling myself, as well. As long as we have the ability to keep learning, we have the ability to keep changing or shifting, and are probably not easily labeled.

blessings,
Cat

Re: Rambling Thought/Question

Playfultree, you sound like me, a member of the Unseen Church of the Living Cross.

Unseen, becuase we find the concept of a building as a place of worship somehow unholy, and that space better left as a garden or forest and mass congregations of people disrupt nature. We also believe that to be seen worshiping is akin to gloating or Pride which leads to Hubris. A place of worship should not be corrupted into a place of business or networking or seeing if you are dressed better than person Y.

Church because that is the only word in our language to convey a reverence for the Supreme Deity that others can conceptualize.

Living Cross becuase we believe in the teachings of Jesus, but not in the glitz or pompousness of any organized religion and not to the exclusion of other concepts. God is afterall unknowable to tiny little brains such as ours. We also believe that if an Evil could mar Heaven with a war of angels then it is inherently illogical that any book could be holy, complete, exactly God's words, or perfect. We believe in goodness by living an honest caring life on a daily basis, not just for a couple hours on Sunday or any given day of the week; a life of example, rather than one of voyeurism. We also remember the the other 5 victims on Skull Hill, sacrificed in the name of greed and undeserved vengeance, three of which were trees, hacked and forced to serve as the instrument of death for God's attempt at interacting with people on a level that we could even attempt to understand. Ours is not the only species that Jesus died for. Ours is not likely the most deserving of God's Love. Ours was simply the one most in need of instruction.

Those who bask in the spotlight of organized religions call us atheists or demon worshipers which could not be any more untrue and so are completely wrong. Terms like Pagan, Wizard or Witch are not offensive because that is simply a matter of semantics. What is the power of prayer, if not magic? They call us Luddites and Tree Hugger, which they mean as an insult but we tend to take as a compliment. We aren't truly anti-technology, but we feel it is important for everyone to feel a connection to the Earth. We were born from her, she is our mother. We should respect her and not abuse her. For our food we should get the dirt under our fingernails and spill the blood on our hands to remind us that it is from dirt and blood that we came and to those our bodies will return when our minds, spirits or souls, whatever term you like, is once again allowed to attempt crossing into the next dimension that is one step closer to the face of God.

Probably the most accurate term historically for us is Gnostic. That term frightens the clergymen becuase it means we do not need them to learn about God. God is within each of us and every thing in the universe. We can learn about God from trees, streams, flowers and any people from a person who is mentally retarded and freed from the bonds of servitude to Man's institutes of learning to the wisest sage of any religion or book. In the big scheme of things we aren't interested in labels or defining ourselves. Our interest is in the journey and in appreciating all of God's creations along the way.

Tree, have you read the gospel of Judas? It has been recently translated, (at least what is left of it. It's only like 6 pages long. I can't remember the link, but I think you would like it. I found it very moving.

If I'm absent for a while don't take it as any kind of offense. Most days/weeks I'm simply not up to it
