The insistance by Christians that Pagans are going to hell, and...

that we are Satan worshipers.

How do you feel about this? What is your response? How do you handle when these type things come up?

What prompted this topic was a conversation I had the other night while in a Yahoo!chat room. I use the name Saijen, someone mentioned that it was an unusual name and asked what it meant. I was upfront and told him that it is my coven name. Needless to say, that was a stupid thing to do. (when will I learn?)
I was then bashed up one side and down the other by him, his wife, and a few I thought were my friends that KNOW I'm a Witch...and owe this guy nothing, as he's not a regular chatter in the room. I am, and have been for close to 7 years. Anyway, my response to being a devil worshiper was that in order to worship something, you have to believe in it...and since I don't believe in the Satan of Christianity, it's rather hard to worhip him. His wife said that I just wanted attention. My response.....well, since YOU are the one who asked the question and YOU are the one bashing me, it seems that YOU are the one looking for attention. I do have to say that several of my friends did take up for me. I was called an evil slut by this guy, I was called wicked.....just to name a few names. I refused to rise to the bait...and when he got ready to leave the room, I wished him a nice day, Blessed Be.. LOL.
He tried to spout the Bible to me, yet I knew more than he did about it....which I find is true of most Christians when they're trying to take down someone of another religion...They don't know the Bible as well as their opponent does, which is really sad. It just bothers me that we are so tolerant of other religions, yet Christians are such asses..and not just to other religions, but to each other. I had mentioned to a friend that I may be going to Serpent Stone...a Pagan gathering for Ostara (the end of this month), and this moron said that if he could get into one of those places, he'd wait until we were all around the big bonfire, he'd douse us all with gasoline and burn us up. And I'm thinking...and YOU say you're a Christian???
So, what is your take on all of this kind of stuff??

I normally just laugh most days. I ask them is not heaven above and hell below? Most say why yes. then I say well have you thought about that? Since the earth is a sphere the only down is right here. So guess that means your in hell with me.

The one's that bash will not listen and do not want to know. We walk closer to the teaching of Jesus then they can bare to even believe.

Forget him and if they start again remind them it is not a religous chat and you wish to stay on topic and if he continues just tell him he on iggy and then either iggy him or pretend too.

I don't generally do religious chat unless it's a religious chat room.....it was a bit quiet in there that night...no one was talking about back issues......actually, not many were talking period. The lady (the friend), and I are OK, and we've not seen this guy since that night. No one that was there has brought it up again. Most in there know what I am, and are OK with it, because they know me..and have for a rather long time....they know my character. I did tell him that he is quite the ass LOL. He said that was the first time anyone's ever said that to him. I told him it was because I wasn't afraid to say it. I generally put morons like that on ignore, simply because I don't want to deal with them. It was kind of fun, however, to really push the Bible in his face.....he didn't have any come backs. that's really sad.

I like your response about hell being here with you LOL. good one!!!

I have to admit that such discussions are totally foreign to me.

Both because I hesitate to call myself Pagan - I still feel that I'm not really - and because most Christians here are a lot less fundamental and much more tolerant. It's hard to imagine such a conversation in Germany, to be honest.

Hearing about this makes me feel sad. It's a sign how once again churches are abusing the teachings of Jesus and love, turning them into hate and intolerance. There has been so much death in the name of the Christian church (and other organized religions) that I prefer to avoid them.

*sigh*

I don't consider myself a pagan but most others do. It's all really just a title of semantics and meaningless to me. I enjoy talking to "pagans" because they usually are more polite and intelligent. Rage is one of the seven deadly sins and it certainly sounds like it had its hold on him. Ad Hominem is illogical and the bastion of the ignorant. Most likely you frightened him because he is insecure in his beliefs. My usual response is, "Oh really? That's not what God told me." I've seen several Baptist preachers turn white and run after I relate my near death experience. I saw very few members of the clergy in Heaven. Granted I was only there for a few seconds our time, but time is meaningless there.

Ranting, very interesting!! I have to say that I honestly wonder how many "Christians" and clergy are actually going to make it to heaven (if there is truly a Heaven). More of them, than of us, break the Biblical laws set down as a guideline of proper behavior. I think most Pagans follow the Bible more closely than most Christians ever thought about, and that's really sad.
If you ever really read the Bible, pay close attention to how many rituals there are in there. The sacrificing of animals....I don't recall that 'God' asked for such sacrifices. May have missed that in my readings, but had not come across it, when I did read.
I was doing a very indepth study of the Bible, many years ago. Fenxy bought me a wonderful study Bible then. It's all marked with highlighter, things I read, pulled apart, analysed, etc. I kept notebooks, the whole bit. This, of course, was when I was a Christian. It's sure helped me in my battle WITH Christians. Most haven't read even a tenth of what I have, and don't have a real clue what the Bible is, or whats in it. I actually side-stepped another confrontation in that same chat room the other night. thought I did a rather good job LOL

There is an old (supposedly German)saying "One should stay close the church and far from the clergy". Anyone shouting at you in print or with voice or driving their car at 20 mph on the highway with cardboard signs spouting "Jesus" on tobacco stakes held out the windows while driving (I saw them tow his car yesterday)is a member of the clergy whether or not they are in a pulpit.

I don't make a point to stand out. If the topic comes up then ok.

Usually if someone says something demeaning I just put on my best Sh*teating grin and let them blather away..

I just outwardly ignore the whole thing most of the time. Inside I fume and rant and rave, but these are unproductive and I usually go find some place to vent later on. You just can't talk to these people -- they don't want to hear you, just bludgeon you until you give up.

Not engaging them, not giving them the satisfaction, is really the only way I know of to handle them. There are other ways to fight. There are others who are better at interacting with those sorts than I am, though, and it's always nice if one of them is around and can do what I cannot.
