Free Pigs!

There was an ad up at the feed mill yesterday. Someone is giving away a breeding pair of pot-bellied pigs!

I was very virtuous and didn't take the number down - mostly because I have nowhere to put them at the moment - but dang! emoticon

HA! I knew I'd get your attention. emoticon

It would be shame to eat them though, don't you think? What's that old saying? "Rich enough to eat your laying hens"?

I would like to raise some pigs for the freezer down the road - just not ready for them yet, housing- or knowledge-wise. It would be nice to have a use for all the whey I produce, though.

well yeah, you want to save the good breeders, but you have to do something with the extras. They dress out about 50% not including head, skin, feet and entrails

If you work with nature instead of against it, it isn't a lot of work in the long run. If you want some ideas on work saving you can check my website [sign in to see URL]

Re: Free Pigs!

I found a home for the pigs.

I was down picking up my new Nigerian buck last Sunday, and the guys there expressed an interest - they went to look on Tuesday and brought them home. emoticon

I have dibs on a piglet to put in the freezer (when they arrive). They are wanting some rabbits when my rabbits have their kits, so I'm sure we can work something out.

I passed on your website addy, Ranting - I figured they'd find it useful.

Re: Free Pigs!

Ranting, actually the work would be keeping my chow from harrassing the critters. Biggest work would be getting our landlord to agree to us having any critters. He's not about to give up any more of his hay fields than he'd have to with his cows. I really do miss having a goat. Heidi was such a [sign in to see URL] a real pet. Maybe someday!

We have been eating onions and lettuce out of the garden already. The peas aren't doing so good. DH should have put them where I told him [sign in to see URL] listens to me! emoticon
We are about ready to really roll on planting the rest of the garden. He's picky about when he [sign in to see URL] to follow the "signs", so I let him do it his way. Not been sorry yet (except for the peas!)

Glad the piggies found a home!!
