I'm moving to the country!
Life sure is full of twists and turns and this one is a good one!
The house is way out in the country; far enough that I will have to use satellite internet. There's 3 bedrooms, large living room, dining room, nice kitchen, 2 full baths and a utility room. Side deck, front porch big enough for 5-6 rockers and a 2 car open front garage.
I have the use of 3-4 acres around the house, there's even more if I want it for pastures down the road about 1/4 mile.
My landlord has already arranged meetings so the neighbors could meet me and I them.
He told them that soon they'll be seeing goats, sheep and chickens over at my place.
He also plowed and disced 3 big garden areas. There's mature fruit trees: pears, apples, plums, cherries & peaches. The blueberry bushes are huge!
So the adventure begins again. I have to say, after losing my last farm/home due to the secret life & financial decisions that my husband had made without my knowledge -I really never thought the day would come when I'd be going back to the country.
This is the best early birthday present I could have ever gotten.
Now, I'll be able to start posting homestead news and pictures of all my new critters and gardening efforts.
Here's a few pics:

Yes, I'll still be in Arkansas. Now I'll be in the Jonesboro area, surrounded by fields of corn, soybeans & cotton.
I named the little stray Clover. She's semi tame but every day she's getting braver. I think the regular feedings are helping; she was so pitifully thin. Her coat hid just how skinny she really was.

Re: I'm moving to the country!
Snow - you KNOW I'm trilled for you. And near Jonesboro, I'll have to plot how far away that is via mapquest. I'm feeling a heck of a road trip wanting to come on. Just need to get the JOB that will finance it!
Take care and I'm really really happy for you. And Clover is a lucky kitty that you came along when you did.
Blessings on your home,
Fenyx

Re: I'm moving to the country!
If you are goint to run sheep and goats together, make sure they are compatible. Some breeds of sheep can cross with goats and produce sterile offspring, (Geeps or Gleeps. Some can get pregnant by goats but then tend to have a lethal immune reaction during second trimester. Why both and not one or the other?

Congrats Snow. I envy you. I can't wait to get out of town and into the country. Your place looks great.

Re: I'm moving to the country!
Natural sheep-goat hybrids are actually extrememly uncommon! Geeps do exist, but they must be created in the lab - and they are fertile.
