Meditation.....

Do you meditate? Why or why not? Where, preferably. How long?

I do meditate, but not as often as I really should. I meditate to help me feel better, to calm me down if I'm upset, to be taught by the spirits around me......right now, my favorite place is in my hammock chair that's under my big maple tree. It's hanging from one of the tree's branches. I can get it in, get comfy, close my eyes and I'm off (and I don't mean sleep...lol). If not there, in the rocker in the livingroom, or on the big swing out under my other maple tree. I wish I had better access to the wooded areas of our property. All the woods are up hills that are almost impossible for me to climb.
I learn some pretty neat things while I meditate..and sometimes, I learn nothing at all except how to calm down. To me, that's just as important.

So..what about you???

Re: Meditation.....

I try to meditate daily but that can be difficult at times. I find on the days am busy I will do a fast 5 or 10 minutes in my car between appointments.

My favorite place is in my lazy-boy when everyone is gone or asleep.

I find it very refreshing, it gives my body a boost and allows me to communicate with my Spirit Guides.

Re: Meditation.....

I'm definitely not doing it enough.

Oh, I can sit and stare at nothing for hours, but my mind only goes blank, and I don't feel that it does me any good, either.

Guess I should get someone to teach me how to do it properly.

Re: Meditation.....

Firle...I had a hard time at first.

I started by looking at the flame on a candle....just focusing on that flame....thinking about what the flame is, what it represents in my life.

Sometimes, now, I make up story meditations when I meditate. One of my favorites....I sit comfortably.....close my eyes, and think of a large meadow totally surrounded by forest. I see a path going into the forest, and I follow it....the rest of the meditation is what I come across on that stroll along the path. Sometimes its animals, sometimes a sacred looking space..sometimes a cabin with a bubbling pot of stew over the fire (that's usually a winter one..lol). It helps just to focus on something. I find music helps me a lot, as well. Focus just on the sounds...the background stuff you normally wouldn't pay much attention to, but would miss if it weren't there. See if any of these methods help emoticon

Re: Meditation.....

I actually went out to find a spot yesterday.

I ended up on a round rock in the park. It's on a little island in the lake, with a wooden bridge to connect it to the land. There's also an artificial waterfall (to get oxygen into the lake). So I sat there, sun on one cheek, wind on the other, closed my eyes and felt peace descend on me.

And then I found my spirit guide, I think. But that's not for here. emoticon

Yes, it's a great place. I intend to return to it often. It's just a small detour from my walk-home-detour after work, so I think I can spend some time there almost every day.

Re: Meditation.....

Yes, I do. I want to increase the time I do this daily.

Why: I love to empty my mind. It really really helps me deal with stress and it helps my attitude. I always come out of meditation feeling better.

Where: Usually on my yoga mat, after I've done my yoga in the morning. Sometimes outside, very very nice; I get into the state right away. When we camp in the wilderness. Sometimes I do a very slow walking meditation on our land.

How long: anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes or longer.

Sometimes I lead my yoga classes in a short meditation. I've also done a lot of meditating during yoga teacher training, or at yoga retreats/workshops. It can be very very powerful in a group!

blessings,

Hey there Cat!!! It's GREAT to see ya!!!! emoticon

That sounds like a good thing.....meditating in the mornings after your Yoga....you're body is in a more pliable state to just sit and relax after a good exercise session..and meditation is a good way to finish your cool down.

Re: Meditation.....

Hi!!

To me, yoga is like moving meditation, because you are breathing in a very smooth way as you move through the poses. It really does put you into a meditative mind. And does make it easier to go right into "sitting still" meditation afterwards.
