Not the best use of the art form albeit. In case you haven't read/seen it, Madame Defarge knits the names of people that are to be killed in the aftermath of the french republic. It's sort of a modern version of the three fates weaving the stories of our lives. But it is certaintly a good way to meditate and relax!nondisclosed_email@example.com (TexasMadness)Fri, 27 Jul 2007 17:01:13 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222367,from=rss#post222367https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222367,from=rss#post222367your crocheting and sewing is, indeed, a form of meditation for you!! Reminds me of an opera I saw once (I cannot remember the name of it, I think it took place in a Scandinavian country) with a scene where all the women were spinning at spinning wheels. There was something very meditative and mystical happening for them. Same thing in "The Mists of Avalon," the book. Spinning had a magic, meditative quality. nondisclosed_email@example.com (MagiCat)Fri, 27 Jul 2007 00:56:30 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222365,from=rss#post222365https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222365,from=rss#post222365There is something to be said for being around rocks (they hold everything that's happened around them...the energy and what-not).....so, I think maybe when we meditate on or near rocks, we're absorbing some of the stuff that's being held there. Not always a bad thing. I need to meditate, but don't seem to have the time right now. Fenyx...I think, for you, your crocheting and sewing is, indeed, a form of meditation for you!! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf)Thu, 26 Jul 2007 23:00:50 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222359,from=rss#post222359https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222359,from=rss#post222359This is interesting - especially Firle and her rock. I've always told my girls that when they have a decision to go find their rock and sit on it and listen - the answer will come to them. I know that when I crochet many times it's a soothing activity that relaxes my mind and gets rid of tensions... Also certain sewing things. While they don't exactly fit the meditation definition, I think - it gets me the same interior state of mind. I'll suddenly realize that I've been sitting still for 30 minutes "organizing" myself. It will have only seemed like a minute or two to me, but it is generally about 20 or 30. It happens when I'm facing some kind of problem and am on the verge of getting stressed. I also like to just sit and listen to the world around me and observe things. During these times, my mind sometimes goes completely blank. Firle, I actually think this kind of meditating has it's place! I'm not sure what is going on (if anything), but I guess it's like an escape and I come around with a feeling of having just woken up from a pleasant nap even though I've just been sitting there the whole time.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TexasMadness)Wed, 25 Jul 2007 16:35:41 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222319,from=rss#post222319https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222319,from=rss#post222319Hi!!   To me, yoga is like moving meditation, because you are breathing in a very smooth way as you move through the poses. It really does put you into a meditative mind. And does make it easier to go right into "sitting still" meditation afterwards. It's GREAT to see ya!!!! That sounds like a good thing.....meditating in the mornings after your Yoga....you're body is in a more pliable state to just sit and relax after a good exercise session..and meditation is a good way to finish your cool down. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf)Mon, 23 Jul 2007 15:39:05 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222278,from=rss#post222278https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222278,from=rss#post222278Yes, I do. I want to increase the time I do this daily. Why: I love to empty my mind. It really really helps me deal with stress and it helps my attitude. I always come out of meditation feeling better. Where: Usually on my yoga mat, after I've done my yoga in the morning. Sometimes outside, very very nice; I get into the state right away. When we camp in the wilderness. Sometimes I do a very slow walking meditation on our land. How long: anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes or longer. Sometimes I lead my yoga classes in a short meditation. I've also done a lot of meditating during yoga teacher training, or at yoga retreats/workshops. It can be very very powerful in a group! blessings, Cat nondisclosed_email@example.com (MagiCat)Mon, 23 Jul 2007 13:28:32 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222276,from=rss#post222276https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222276,from=rss#post222276Yes, it's a great place. I intend to return to it often. It's just a small detour from my walk-home-detour after work, so I think I can spend some time there almost every day.    nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Mon, 23 Jul 2007 07:18:42 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222272,from=rss#post222272https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222272,from=rss#post222272  Oh Firle..that sounds perfect!!!! I ended up on a round rock in the park. It's on a little island in the lake, with a wooden bridge to connect it to the land. There's also an artificial waterfall (to get oxygen into the lake). So I sat there, sun on one cheek, wind on the other, closed my eyes and felt peace descend on me. And then I found my spirit guide, I think. But that's not for here. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Sat, 21 Jul 2007 06:52:02 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222264,from=rss#post222264https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222264,from=rss#post222264Firle...I had a hard time at first. I started by looking at the flame on a candle....just focusing on that flame....thinking about what the flame is, what it represents in my life. Sometimes, now, I make up story meditations when I meditate. One of my favorites....I sit comfortably.....close my eyes, and think of a large meadow totally surrounded by forest. I see a path going into the forest, and I follow it....the rest of the meditation is what I come across on that stroll along the path. Sometimes its animals, sometimes a sacred looking space..sometimes a cabin with a bubbling pot of stew over the fire (that's usually a winter one..lol). It helps just to focus on something. I find music helps me a lot, as well. Focus just on the sounds...the background stuff you normally wouldn't pay much attention to, but would miss if it weren't there. See if any of these methods help nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf)Sat, 21 Jul 2007 04:10:37 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222255,from=rss#post222255https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222255,from=rss#post222255I'm definitely not doing it enough. Oh, I can sit and stare at nothing for hours, but my mind only goes blank, and I don't feel that it does me any good, either. Guess I should get someone to teach me how to do it properly.    nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Thu, 19 Jul 2007 20:44:07 +0000 Re: Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222253,from=rss#post222253https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222253,from=rss#post222253I try to meditate daily but that can be difficult at times. I find on the days am busy I will do a fast 5 or 10 minutes in my car between appointments. My favorite place is in my lazy-boy when everyone is gone or asleep. I find it very refreshing, it gives my body a boost and allows me to communicate with my Spirit Guides.nondisclosed_email@example.com (playfultree)Thu, 19 Jul 2007 19:42:15 +0000 Meditation.....https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222251,from=rss#post222251https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p222251,from=rss#post222251Do you meditate? Why or why not? Where, preferably. How long? I do meditate, but not as often as I really should. I meditate to help me feel better, to calm me down if I'm upset, to be taught by the spirits around me......right now, my favorite place is in my hammock chair that's under my big maple tree. It's hanging from one of the tree's branches. I can get it in, get comfy, close my eyes and I'm off (and I don't mean sleep...lol). If not there, in the rocker in the livingroom, or on the big swing out under my other maple tree. I wish I had better access to the wooded areas of our property. All the woods are up hills that are almost impossible for me to climb. I learn some pretty neat things while I meditate..and sometimes, I learn nothing at all except how to calm down. To me, that's just as important. So..what about you???nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf)Thu, 19 Jul 2007 15:48:45 +0000
