Re: Meditation.....

I don't "actively" meditate, but I think it do it anyway! I'll suddenly realize that I've been sitting still for 30 minutes "organizing" myself. It will have only seemed like a minute or two to me, but it is generally about 20 or 30. It happens when I'm facing some kind of problem and am on the verge of getting stressed.

I also like to just sit and listen to the world around me and observe things. During these times, my mind sometimes goes completely blank. Firle, I actually think this kind of meditating has it's place! I'm not sure what is going on (if anything), but I guess it's like an escape and I come around with a feeling of having just woken up from a pleasant nap even though I've just been sitting there the whole time.

This is interesting - especially Firle and her rock. I've always told my girls that when they have a decision to go find their rock and sit on it and listen - the answer will come to them.

I know that when I crochet many times it's a soothing activity that relaxes my mind and gets rid of tensions... Also certain sewing things.

While they don't exactly fit the meditation definition, I think - it gets me the same interior state of mind.

There is something to be said for being around rocks (they hold everything that's happened around them...the energy and what-not).....so, I think maybe when we meditate on or near rocks, we're absorbing some of the stuff that's being held there. Not always a bad thing.

I need to meditate, but don't seem to have the time right now.

Fenyx...I think, for you, your crocheting and sewing is, indeed, a form of meditation for you!!

Reminds me of an opera I saw once (I cannot remember the name of it, I think it took place in a Scandinavian country) with a scene where all the women were spinning at spinning wheels. There was something very meditative and mystical happening for them. Same thing in "The Mists of Avalon," the book. Spinning had a magic, meditative quality.

The crocheting thing reminds me of Tale of Two Cities! Not the best use of the art form albeit. In case you haven't read/seen it, Madame Defarge knits the names of people that are to be killed in the aftermath of the french republic. It's sort of a modern version of the three fates weaving the stories of our lives.

But it is certaintly a good way to meditate and relax!
