Music....questions for both Pagan and Non-Pagan members

Does it play a roll in your every day life?
How does music influence your moods?
Do you use music in your rituals?
Do you use music when you meditate?
What is your favorite type(s) of music?

Just something different to get us going again. emoticon

Yes, music plays a vital roll in my every day life. I generally have some kind of something going, especially when I'm doing my housework, or working out (when I'm able). I always have tunes going when I'm in my car. I can't imagine my life without music.

How music influences my moods: When I need to just relax, I listen to New Age, or some of my relaxation music. Something soft...floaty. I can't relax when I'm listening to classic rock (which I love), or to something equally as loud/hard. Classical music also helps to calm me down, if it's the right kind...some Classical is a bit nervy, so I save that for when I need energy.
For energy, I listen to classic rock and roll, some Classical, lively Celtic, etc. When I'm in a depression, I can usually listen to something lively and it helps.

Yes, we use music in our rituals. Sometimes, the right kind of music can help one to focus. We use a lot of tribal type music in our rituals, or soft music, depending on the ritual.

I, personally, find it hard most times, to have music playing when I am trying to meditate. I tend to want to pick out all the background stuff, just to see if I can, so, I rarely use music unless I have to, to cut out other outside noises. I prefer the "music" of what's around me....birds, dogs barking, wind, bugs, etc.

I guess I don't really have one favorite genre of music. I like almost anything...with a few exceptions. I HATE rap, and I don't care much for old country. Don't like a lot of the newer stuff..but some of it's pretty good. I guess if I had to say...my preferences are (in no particular order)Classic Rock and Roll, Classical, New Age/Relaxation, Some of the new Rock, some of the New Country. I even like some of the Christian stuff...more the tune than the words.

Your turn....and if you think of another question relevant to this topic....please...post it! emoticon

1 Yes music plays a big par in my life, I am always singing it helps the day become lighter. I went to a school of the arts so music has been part of my life for years. I also it is the easiest way to express and open up my feelings.

2. The way music effects my moods, usually it is my moods effect my music. You can often tell how I am feeling by the songs I am listening to. 9 times out of 10 it is some kind of musical. I just connect there I feel

3. I use music in rituals all the time, in fact that is how I found the board. I love to chant, and bring a joyful noise to the Goddess. Lifting the voice to the heavans

4. I don't use music when I meditate, except chanting and throat singing

5. I love American Musicl Theatre

I have to admit that I'm not listening to music a lot.

I've been looking at meditation music or "wellness music" as it's called here. Not sure if I like it, but as it is, I'm rarely listening to anything anyway.

Strangely enough, I own a guitar, I know how to play the recorder, and I can read music. Somehow, all that got left behind.

I find music relaxing, though depending on my frame of mind, type of music.. It can bring me to smile, or cry, or build my resolve.

Music is very much a part of my life. Though I find as I get older I tend to not want music in the morning, I want to hear nature.

My favorite band is Pink floyd, when I want to unwind or am having strong feelings I want to ease. If I'm real tense then maybe metallica or similar

If I want to build energy I listen to Dead can dance, or anugama (sp?) or some such.

I haven't done enough workings yet to really have a set routine. but I can see how powerful that could be.

Re: Music....questions for both Pagan and Non-Pagan members

Music, in some form, is a part of most Paganistic gatherings, be it ritual, fun, or whatever.

I love the Classic Rock and Roll ....Lynard Skynard, Steppenwolf, AC/DC....all of those, but I also love Classical (Beethevon and all) as well as some New Age stuff, and relaxation music.

I have to agree with you, Dreams...I prefer nature in the mornings, and before bedtime. I love to sit on my porch, in the swing, and listen to the crickets, and sometimes my Wolf boy will start to howl, for no reason other than he feels like it. THAT alone can relax me like nothing else. I adore that sound..and the fact that my sweet wolf is making that sound makes it all the better.

I can hardly do any ritual work without some music in there at some point. Not throughout the entire ritual, but in a place or 2. It just lends a strong aura to the entire time.

Right now, my other coven mate (we are a small coven..only 3, 2 initiates and our High Priestess...who is my best friend..lol)...and I are working on our Samhain ritual, which will be an open ritual..so, some things we do in closed ritual we can't do, because there will be people there who aren't coven members, and some things are still to be Kept Silent. We have one chant already listed, but we will have to add a few others for us to sing, and some music to "backlight" the meditation that I'm writing for that evening.
I'm really excited that my coven mate and I have been given this opportunity to do this ritual....since this is one of the biggest rituals in a Witch's year. It's quite an honor.

Try easing some slow music into your life, one song a week for a while, then work toward a more frequent time. If for no other reason that to just find out how it effects you. Try some relaxation type music...that's usually a good way to start. emoticon
Happy listening.
