Raw Diet: Day 7
One full week down!
I've read a lot about this diet and it seems that there is a lot of support out there for people who keep having cravings for their old foods. I haven't had a single craving. I have only really gone on one other restrictive diet in the past (South Beach - yeck) and I also didn't have a problem with that one. Maybe I do have some self control?!? I guess there's hope that I will lose this weight and keep it off!
I'm sure I'll be sick of raw foods by the end of the month though, but I'm also sure that I can hold out that long. The reward of waiting for the Solstice feast is a big one!
Oh, and my mom tried the raw beet ravioli and liked it so much, she wants me to make it for the Solstice dinner! So I guess there will be some raw items on the menu!
This week I also made a middle eastern dish - spiced pumpkin and squash with "couscous". The pumpkin and squash were dehydrated for several hours to make them tender. They were pretty good, but the "couscous" stole the show! I couldn't believe the taste of the stuff - it's jicama (run through a food processor until the consistency of couscous) with some pine nuts, pecan oil and salt. It tasted EXACTLY like real couscous. Creeped me out! But it was excellent.
As far as changes go, I am losing weight. I went from 195 to 192! That's a big difference - I was aiming for about 2 pounds a week (that's what my personal trainer advised), so things are looking good. I hope it keeps up...hard to say after just one week! I'm still not energetic, but I have also doubled my exercise routine this week, so that might be taking all my energy!
I'm having fun and feeling good. I'm eating a wider variety of foods than I did before (something that didn't happen on South Beach - I think I ate the same 4 or 5 things every day - not good!). I look forward to the next 3 weeks! (and of course to the day after that when I eat "real" food again!!!)
Hope I do as well next week as I did this week!

Re: Raw Diet: Day 7
I'm getting more fruit now - guess that's a start.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, TM.

Re: Raw Diet: Day 7
Firle, it's always good to add more fruits and veggies into your diet - glad you are doing it! But I don't think most Europeans have as bad of a problem as Americans. But that's just my impression from what the media tells me...which isn't always true!
My local organic vegetable delivery is really helping out. This last week, I got carrots, lettuce, collard greens, kale, oranges, tangerines, radishes, onions and broccoli. It sure makes it easier when the food comes to your door!

Re: Raw Diet: Day 7
Sounds great! And yes, not having to go out and choose surely makes a difference.

Re: Raw Diet: Day 7
I think this is one reason I love my garden so much. ALL our veggies are grown without pesticides and additives of any kind.
Right now, we have kale and turnips. I LOVE raw turnips. I'd rather eat them raw as cooked. The greens I like cooked with homemade pepper sauce on them. But, when I cook them, all I really do is boil them in water.....no salt, no nothing.....then, put the pepper sauce on them after I put them on my plate. I do love my greens...lol.
Tonight, I fixed a deer ham, and for our veggies, I did cook them, but we had mixed corn and peas.....out of our garden. I added some butter to the water, a dash of salt and some pepper. Some things I just can't eat raw (corn is one of them...lol) Now, peas, I could eat raw. Most of them are sweeter than candy.
I'm just glad this seems to be working out well for you. Both the delivery system, and the eating!!

Re: Raw Diet: Day 7
Wow, raw turnips?!? I actually got some turnips in the last delivery but didn't know what to do with them. So they are good just straight raw? Or do you dip them in sauce (ranch or something)? Hmmm, I'm going to have to try it!
And there are lots of things that I don't consider palatable raw, but they are in a lot of raw recipes: winter squash, eggplant, corn, etc. I've tried a recipe with the winter squash and eggplant (both were dehydrated) but I haven't tried raw corn yet. I did buy some the other day, so I'll be giving it a shot this week. I'll let you know!
