posticon The Goats are here!

Well last night we went and picked up our two alpines. As I mentioned in the other post the are yearlings in milk and each cost us $350.

The trip home was uneventful, with the exception of light rain, but it was long and we did not make it back till dark.

Unloading proved to be a challenge. They were already nervous and the dark and trange place did not help. We had to unload them down the hill a good 100 yards from the pen and it took some time to walk them up.

We stayed with them for sometime aquainting them with their new home, but when we left the bleeting began, but it did not keep up for too long.

This morning we miled for the first time and got about 3 quarts. It is the most delicious!!!

They are very friendly but have vastly different personalities. One is more timid while the other is more braver.

Ohh Bobby..what pretty girls!!!!
I KNOW you'll enjoy the milk and having them around. Goats are so precious.
I do miss my Neubian I used to have...damned wild dogs.

Thanks for sharing the pics...they sure are pretty ladies!

Ahhh, they look suspiciously like the goats I admired over at Homesteading Today - now I know who you are, over there! emoticon Not to worry, your secret is safe with me. emoticon

They're gorgeous, as I said over t'other place.

They are starting too and they are settling into the routine here. My wife milks them in a particular order. The first gets on the stand on her own. When she is finished shegoes over to the feed and waits. (My wife sets feed for the other while see milks the first then rotates them.)

They are quite happy to be milked and have become use to us and like our company and we are liking theirs.
