What spiritual thing did you do today?

I thought this would be a fun thread to keep going for awhile. I have found recently that I have been far too busy to nurture my spiritual side and I miss it. So I'm making an effort to connect with nature around me and practice my herbalism some everyday.

So today I weeded the garden and planted some landscape plants. Doesn't sound very spiritual, but it felt really good to get my hands dirty. Instead of looking at it like work like I usually do when I'm in a hurry (I wake up early and spend 2 hours working in the yard before work, so I'm in a rush), I reveled in all the dirt getting under my nails!

Hopefully I can work on some meditation or something a bit obviously spiritual soon, but this is all I got for now!

What spiritual thing did you do today? Or what did you do to help you along your path?

Good idea, TM.

Now, what have I done today? Nothing spectacular, at any rate. I tried to get myself into a better mood, and focus my thoughts on something positive.

Oh, and I rescued a bumblebee from the office building I work in, persuaded it to climb on my key band, carried it outside and deposited it in a flower. That felt very good, and the bumblebee certainly responded to my mumbled words of encouragement.

Re: What spiritual thing did you do today?

Chad and I were just talking about bumblebees last night! We were thinking of getting a package of them since I never see them around the yard. We'll wait until next year to get more flowers in so that they have good huntin' grounds!

This morning, instead of listening to the news or an audio book on my walk to work, I left out the ear phones. I simply walked along listening and watching and wondering. It's by no means a "nice" walk - I have to go along the frontage road of a highway - but I am always surprised at the things I see when I'm actually looking.

It amazes me how the natural world has such a strong foothold here in the city despite humans every effort to keep it at bay. There are plants growing from every crack in the sidewalk, there are insects racing around everywhere despite the spraying trucks and the insect traps, and there is abundant wildlife in the drainage ditch even with all the awful pollution that gets in there. When I see things like this, I really hope that nature can spring back from all the damage we have done to her. We would have to change our ways [sign in to see URL] some day!

Re: What spiritual thing did you do today?

This week I really haven't had the time to do much. Though I have been writing down my dreams more. I'm trying to learn lucid dreaming and I'm starting by doing exercises in dream recall. Sometimes my recall is great and then it'll be weeks until I remember another dream. So I'm trying to be more consistent.

Anybody else working on something this week?

Re: What spiritual thing did you do today?

I'm working at visualizing.

I want to start my practice as soon as possible, and I need a room for it. I know it's out there, so I've been visualizing it, painting it, putting furniture in... that kind of stuff. At the same time, I'm trying to feel happy and not anxious, as I'm a bit pressured for time. (Clients are literally lined up already!)

So, this is serious business! emoticon

Firle, I really do think that kind of visualization works! I visualized what I wanted in a house for almost 2 years before finding the place I'm in. I had several moments of deja vu while looking around it the first time. I just KNEW it was what I had been dreaming of even though the images weren't exactly right. I think I was visualizing what it WOULD look like once I took over and turned it into my little farm! Everyday it gets a little closer.

Good luck on your quest!

Vizualazion - Hummmm - the author Napeloen Hill, wrote a book called "Think and Grow Rich". (it was required reading by my then fiance before getting married). Anyway - this book's had several well used lines out of it. One of the main ones..."What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve". = Visualization if I ever heard it.

I'm still working on the porch with a house and good dark and trees...

Take care

Re: What spiritual thing did you do today?

I'm not sure how I missed this [sign in to see URL] probably due to the fact that I've been so sick lately, and just hitting a few things here and there. This is an awesome thread!!

For me, spirituality comes in so many forms. One, of course, being out planting the flowers, digging in the earth. I love the feel of the cool earth on my hands (it is always cool!!).

Lately, I've been watching the Cicadas that have emerged (the 17 yr. kind and man, there are thousands of them just in our yard alone!!), and I rescued one of them from an old spider web yesterday. It was chirping, and couldn't get lose. I saw no point in letting it die there since there was no spider. Watching butterflies playing 'tag', the birds playing 'Catch me if you can', the lightning bugs at [sign in to see URL] love where we are, because there is always something to watch, or hear. The cows, a lone deer doe coming out at dusk to feed, an owl calling out, or the coyotes singing (that alone is such a spiritual thing for me it's not [sign in to see URL] it is when my wolf answers. I close my eyes and just 'go away' until the singing [sign in to see URL]'s the most awesome sound I can imagine). I've been watching the Moon in all her [sign in to see URL] phases. I guess I didn't really realize, till now, just what a wonderfully spiritual world I live in.
As for actual rituals, I haven't done anything in a long time, and I sure miss it. It's so hard for me to do anything, when DH is alseep, or watching TV. I don't have a room that is good for 'doing my thing' in. We have actually discussed seeing if our landlord will allow us to tear down the smoke house out back (it's falling apart anyway) and rebuilding it, bigger and better, with a room on one end just for me and my 'stuff'. It would give me a place for ritual and spell [sign in to see URL] for drying my [sign in to see URL] when/if I go out there, DH would know not to bother me. We've yet to talk to the landlord about it, but I think he'll allow us to do that. A [sign in to see URL] for me! Of course, the other end would be used for housing the dog food, weed eater, rakes and hoes, and a host of other [sign in to see URL] that would be daytime stuff, and [sign in to see URL] can co-exist with all of [sign in to see URL] a wall would be between that and my room.

Re: What spiritual thing did you do today?

Today I watered a lot of my potted herbs and flowers and checked out my shade garden. I hope later this afternoon - read cooler - to clip some cedar, pine, and juniper and take them down in Circle for full moon, the bring them up to the house to hang and dry to try and make my own smudge sticks

[sign in to see URL]'ve been so busy I nearly forgot we are upon a full moon. Hmmm, I might have to rethink my evening plans.

Making your own smudge sticks is a lot of fun. Let us know how it goes!
