Presidential Debate #1

Did you watch the debate?

I was pretty impressed with both candidates. I thought McCain was going to bomb, but he got himself together after the first few questions. He did lose his temper about the Kissinger stuff though.

Obama just seems so much more composed though. He holds himself in a way that commands respect.

I HATED the way McCain would say something and Obama would interject "that's just not true" and you didn't know who was telling the truth. I did go back and look some stuff up, but the average viewer doesn't bother with that. I wish they delayed the video and had a fact check banner at the bottom of the screen telling the audience the truth.

What did you think?

I watched.
They each held their own in many ways.

Seeing different polls about the debate has been interesting. The first one I saw showed that 75% voted that Obama won and only 5% said that McCain won - I was surprised at how different they were.

But others that I have looked at now say that it was pretty much a tie with no clear winner. I wonder how many people watch the whole thing or just vote on sound bites? I don't know how the polls are taken.

I had no desire to watch the debates.

Why not Saijen? Although you never really hear much new information, I like to get a feel for each person - see how they react under stress, how they carry themselves, how well they can explain themselves on the fly (and not just from reading a speech). I think they are very interesting.

Personally, I feel that neither of the candidates is right for the job, and I have no desire to subject myself to all the BS that tends to go on in the political debates. They promise the moon during their campaign, then you're lucky if you get a grain of sand once they're in office.
I used to thrive on watching the debates, listening to the "He did _____" while the opponent is saying..."He said ____", and neither is true. So...I just don't subject myself to that which I find annoying, to say the least.

Madness - guess you'll be watching the VP'want-to-be's on Thursday.
I imagin that will be very interesting.

I already know who I'll be voting for and it would take a LOT to get me to vote for the other guy. Don't like him, At ALL.

Yes, I'll be watching the VP debate on Thursday. I wonder if Biden will pull the experience card as many times as McCain did. It certainly is a role reversal in that aspect compared to the last debate.

Saijen, there sure is a lot of BS in those debates. Thats why I wish the broadcast was postponed and a fact checker was displayed on the screen. But you are also talking about the simple fact that there is a lot of pie in the sky BS too. But I do believe that is not entirely the candidates fault. If we had a dictatorship, then the leader could do what he promised (or not!) because he would have unilateral control. But alas, our democracy seems to be overburdened with checks and balances. Seems we have gone a bit too far in that direction and it is impossible to get things done. All the talk about bipartisanship means diddly right now when the two parties are so diametrically opposed. I wish there were more real middle ground.

So do I!!! Or, at least more of a meeting of the minds of the candidates....where not everything is something to be opposed over.

Re: Presidential Debate #1

Ok, so I watched the VP debate. That was worth it. While Palin was far superior in the debate than in her previous interviews, I still could not help but laugh every time she said things like "well bless your heart" and "you betcha!".

But the second presidential debate was just not all that great. I found myself concentrating more on folding the laundry than watching! emoticon

Things that they said in the first debate that the 'talking heads' said were wrong were repeated. The same twisting of each others words from the first debate too! I just felt like exactly zero new information was conveyed.

So I guess I'm a bit more on the apathetic side at this point. This election has been sooo drawn out that I wish we could just vote now and get it over with! emoticon
