Re: Prayer??

My thoughts on prayer are twofold - there is the informal chats, that I have with the Goddess, and to a lesser extent, her Consort, and then there are the different prayers - not spells, but weavings of will, that I do with music. I will literally climb into the music I create, and play intricate pieces that I can never repeat, all the while paying little attention to the keyboard, but in a visual state of closeness with my Goddess. These times are more intense than any other, and I benefit more from them, than I ever do the spells I weave.

Re: Prayer??

raptorsidhe, I agree with you on most of your point. The one place that I have to disagree, not all who say they'll pray for you may even know your religious preferences. Just like, one of my closest online friends knows I'm a Witch, she's a Christian. When I'm sick, or when my DH had cancer, her immediate response [sign in to see URL]'ll pray for you. For that, I have no problem what-so-ever. Be my guest and pray for me and [sign in to see URL] can use all the help we can get from any port in the storm.
BUT, now if you're saying you're going to pray for me because you want to 'save my soul'...well, then I wanna spit in their faces! I sure feel ya there. [sign in to see URL] person can save someone's [sign in to see URL] to the [sign in to see URL] God can do that, so, don't go there.

I like what you said about your life being a prayer. That should be something we strive for.

muladzh, you mentioned 'climbing into the music' Are you saying that you use a piano/keyboard and play music as you, more or less meditate and pray? If so, I thought I was the only one who did that. I get very caught up in the music and don't have a clue what I'm [sign in to see URL] just play what I feel from deep down. I'll do that with my dulcimer as well. Well, I did till I broke a string. I've got to find someone to restring for me.
This also helps me when I'm feelin down. Just lose myself in music.

It's strange that have little to no connection to music. It's actually something my husband and I bonded over. You don't meet many people who aren't really excited about music. I love to listen to good music played live, but I rarely seek that out and I never listen to recorded music. Hmm.

Yes, I start playing, and thinking about things, then time vanishes, and I am still playing. I have fallen asleep playing the Accordion, and nobody noticed. I am not proficient enough with the Dulcimer to play and meditate, but I do with keyboards, and whistle. I am practicing the guitar, and may someday be able to play it, so that is certainly not meditation music.

Re: Prayer??

My dulcimer is a 4 stringed one, which makes it easier to just blow away to nowhere when I play. Hammered [sign in to see URL] it. I don't have one, but Fenyx has one of those, as well as a stringed one. As for not being
'proficient' with the dulcimer, I don't worry about what's coming out of it as I'm usually home alone when I do my music when I can get into it with fewer interuptions. yes, the strings are a bit difficult to push down to create music with the dulcimer, but after a while, you get to the point it's not such a hardship if you have the right tool to use. I actually use one half of a wooden clothes pin as my (can't think of the word for what it's called right off)....I use it rather then my fingers to change notes. My fingers are too sensitive to use, so, I improvise. Actually, mountain dulcimer players rarely use their fingers to play, they prefer using something else. They may pick with fingers, but note changes are done by holding a piece of wood or something else.
And again I'm rambling.......

Off hand, and probably off topic too, do you know the tuning for a dulcimer - I have tuned wrongly, I know by presumption - I have no idea what it is supposed to be.

Re: Prayer??

It really depends on how you want to play. It's either D A D D or D A A A

Here in the Smokies I found out that the mountian players use the D A A A tuning. I have mine tuned to D A D D. Or at least I did till I broke a string. I've GOT to find someone to string that for me.

The D A D D gives you a funky drone, the D A A A give is a smoother drone. Just tune it to both, play and see which you like better.

Thank you, I will tune it in daylight. About your dulcimer, Were you nearer, I would string it for you. If it isn't strung by spring, I will in that region, and would do it happily.

Re: Prayer??

I have found one thing true about prayers over the years. It seems that when a group of several faiths, paths, or beliefs all pray, spell-cast, weave, or whatever they do all do it for a common goal/request. The goal/request is answered/achieved.

I look at the Divine as a single entity with many facets and when we all can agree then anything can be achieved.

Re: Prayer??

Playful, one thing in the Christian belief is..."If many gather and pray, believing, it will be done". I think that goes in any faith/[sign in to see URL] I think that's what you're saying. Am I correct in that assumption?
I have to agree with you. The more there are praying for the same goal, the higher the chance of that goal being attained, I think.
