Re: Prayer??

Yeah, my thoughts as well but apparently there are several groups doing it. It is called - Baptism for the Dead - several Jewish/Holocaust groups among others are having fits over it - some of the groups are doing it at the grave while most others have a live people do the baptism -by proxy- in a church of their choice (not the dead person's choice) to accept a faith and God not of their choosing. It sounds like the plot to a Capt. Jack Sparrow move where one person trades so many other souls for . . . but in this case for points with God. But unfort. there really are some individuals who think this is something they need to do in order to save the world - literally.

Re: Prayer??

*shudder*

My aunt has been baptized something like 126 times for "poor Jews that died in the Holocaust before accepting Jesus". Ick. She's got a big certificate about it on her fridge. Only part of the family I don't get along with...

To be honest I could not see myself doing it - it just seems so disrespectful to "save" a dead person - especially one of a different religion. I just don't see any God wanting you to "save" dead people by proxy.

I agree Ewk!

Re: Prayer??

If you ask me, baptizing by proxy is just silly and highly egoistical. Talk about self-gratification!

The dead person couldn't care less at best, I would say, and at the worst would be insulted. And I honestly would not insult anyone willingly like that - I have too much respect for the choices of an individual. Plus, having an insulted dead person hanging around you is the best way of getting bad vibes I can think of. emoticon
