Re: Power lines and EMFs...

When you don't travel very much, realizing how bad the power lines are can be difficult - but this trip is showing us just how bad they are for us. When we camp somewhere far from the powerlines, we sleep well, wake rested and don't ache. When near to power lines, we don't sleep well, get no rest, and have aches and pains in the morning. This weekend we are very close to a mass of wires, and a couple of very big distribution transformers, so sleep is difficult, and we both ache. Unfortunately we can't just pick a nice place to stay - the trailer is forty feet long, and has a 31 ft king pin to rear axle - this makes it very slow to turn, so it won't fit just anywhere - we have to pick the places with the 'Big Rig' sites. We stayed in a regional park two nights ago - that was fun - ever decreasing circles, too narrow for us got a big scratch on the side of the trailer, that is a bit annoying. They failed to mention that the road got narrower and tighter radiused as it went on - there was an idiot with a large flag stuck into the side of the road that didn't like having to move it to let me extricate the trailer - I should have just run over the thing, and the idiot too. Strange things, idiots - they look normal until circumstance throws them a new one, then the blank look appears, they drool a lot, and find reasoning difficult. We get to see a new lot every night. Last night's prize idiot was the guy that decided that he could drink and sing loud songs in the middle of the night. He tried to move his truck, to make more room for dancing, and ran into the side of the next parked camper.. Why is it, that police like to make a LOT of noise whilst doing things in the middle of the night?

muladzh, one of my favorite phrases is..
"people never fail to amaze, or amuse, me". It's not always amusing, but sometimes you just have to laugh at their sheer stupidity!!!

Hopefully the next place you stay will be idiot free, and major power line free as well!!!

We are East of where we were, near the I5, in a quiet park with no street lamps, no power lines within a mile or more, and last night was great. We didn't wake until 07:00 - very unusual. We have to stay here for this week, not only to explore the area for disturbances, but to allow our mail to catch up with us. We continue on next Monday, not sure where to - we are avoiding bad or cold weather, most of the places we intend to visit are too cold for our liking. Driving a pickup towing a 40ft trailer is not fun in snow and ice.

I can't imagine towing a trailer that long in the snow/ice. I'd be a nervous wreck by the time I got where I was going...assuming I didn't wreck the whole set-up!! At least the snow and all is slowing down and beginning to melt in most places.

I bet you got such a good night's sleep without the hum of power lines or security lights! I'd be happy if the power went out every night at bedtime, and came back on when I got up...whenever that is. I guess I could always just flip all the breakers every night!! emoticon

A friend of ours is currently designing a home electrical system that is remotely supplied from a box outside, with an automatic breaker system to disconnect at nine o'clock in the evening, and resume at nine o'clock in the morning - the remainder of the time, the house will run on 12 volt DC, with all house lights, vent fans and fridges being 12 volt.. The fridge will have to wait a while, it is a 25 cu ft monster with matching 25 cu ft freezer that run on 12v dc - they cost over $5000 together. The rest is probably do able, this summer - we have a vast expanse of clear sky to the south, and the roof aims in that direction so an array of solar panels will go up there...

But, by this summer, there should be an automatic shut off of electricity in the house, and that will make life so much nicer.

Um, don't forget that once Dad moved away from the power lines his health got better too. He isnt having to take as many meds now. You also had your meningitis and that probably had some effect on your immune system. Remember, your not supposed to be alive, medically speaking. Another thing, while I'm not arguing that the power lines did have an effect, you have to be careful about the information you get off the net. Like muladzh said,

Research of many problems now is getting harder, as there are countless forums of misinformation, or sites that don't know what they are talking about. The worst offender is Wikapedia - the amateur anyone can add to it knowledge site, that gets an amazing amount of stuff totally wrong.

I was trying to research this subject last night, and found 70 sites that were completely wrong, and only three that were vaguely correct. So many people have so many opinions, and nobody bothers about accuracy anymore.

You know how people say dont believe everything you see on TV? Same goes for the internet. Theres a lot of misinformation out there. Research and surverys and polls can all be made to get the results that they are searching for. If they interview only 100 African-Americans on thier views of the rebel flag, theyre going to get a negative response. If they interview 100 people, in the south, in the north, no matter what race, you get a different outcome. And all they tell you is that they polled 100 people. Not who they were or where they lived. Now, that being said, I also wonder what kind of effect those power lines had on me. Remember, I GREW UP underneath those lines. The only problems that I know of that I have are my allergies and my stomach problems, which millions of people have. So theres no telling what started it.

As for the solar, the government should do something to make it easy for everyone to get solar panels. Like the digital conversion thing. If everyone had solar panels, our energy costs would go down and the world would be a little cleaner.

Re: Power lines and EMFs...

Granted, a great deal of what is posted online is nothing less than bull-hooey, but, I am basing more of my posts on a book that my Dad sent me. The author of the book had been studying the effects of power lines and people's health issues for a VERY long time.

Faerie, you may not remember the people next door....karen, Wendy, John and little John....well, John was in perfect health till they moved into that house and he died of cancer. Shelly from down the street had to have numerous sinus operations until they moved away...I've heard more and more stories like that coming from that neighborhood, and in particular, that street. It was always something with someone. And, no, I didn't realize your Dad got better when he moved from there. I'm glad to hear that.
You may be lucky enough that what is going on with you now is all you got from living there. I sure hope so!! I have to wonder about J and her issues now...how much, if any, of that is due to those power lines.
I can tell y'all this....as long as I have a say-so, I'll never live near that kind of power line again!!!

Saijen - trees are so much better!

Remember me telling you about the females being born more to people when the hubby has been around high RF or high electricity during a time before the pregnancy? And your chickens beeing more female.

And both of us have two girls (my ex was a radio announcer with the transmitter and antenna near the studio), also we had maximum power ham radio in all my houses.

Good to hear that your ex is doing health better at his new place.

Re: Power lines and EMFs...

I got my own back on a powerline today.. Whils attacking the tangle of brambles, I inadvertently mowed down the support to the electric pole that sits in the middle of the lot. The Grillo walking tractor took out the wire without even missing a beat. We called the power company and asked 'em to come fix it. They will come in the morning, unless the pole starts falling down. BUT, I got my own back on a power line.... emoticon
