Not much goin on
It's been kind of quiet the last 3 weeks. Been spending a GREAT deal of time here at home, watching the flowers and the veggies doin their thing. I'm amazed that we're already having to pull onionis. I LOVE onions, so I pulled 4 of them earlier today and ate them with some salt. Not sure where I learned to do that, but it's just something I do if I'm eating nothing but green onions. I teethed on those things, so I guess I have onion juice in my blood or something LOL. Mom said my breath stunk all the time, but I had no problems cutting my teeth..LOL.
OH...I discovered something kind of neat for any of you who are clean teeth freaks. At Walmart, where the mouthwash is, they have these tiny little throw away toothbrushes that have a pick on the other end of them. 4 of them cost about $2. They already have "toothpaste" on them, but you don't need water and there's no need to rinse your mouth. I got some of the spearmint ones and man, do they do the job!! DH and I ate out yesterday, and since I'm trying really hard to brush after every meal, those are perfect for those times...I used one and my teeth not only felt clean, but so did my whole mouth. After you use them, just toss them in the trash. You can get the spearmint, or peppermint or cinnamint. I'm going to get a 4 pack of the other 2 and keep them in my purse. Some of you may want to keep some in a desk drawer at work, or in your purse or pocket. I was amazed with this little invention. Was very cool.
Let's see..what else is going on. We've not yet won the lottery, although we do keep trying. We decided NOT to buy a ticket for tonight's drawing. May buy 1 or 2 for Saturday.
Not sure if I told y'all about my new breathing machine for my sleep apnea or not. It's not a CPAP, but an A-PAP. It self adjusts the air pressure according to my needs during the night. Kinda cool. I LOVE the humidifier on this thing. It takes a lot more water than my CPAP did, but my skin looks healthier! Imagine that! LOL
Uhhmmmm......DH vacuumed and shampooed our carpet the other day. Looks soo much better than it did!!! Eventually this carpet will be pulled up and the hard wood floors refinished. I'll have to buy a few throw rugs for winter cause these floors get really cold.
My sister found a ring and she sent it to me. It's my size and it's really pretty. I've not taken it off since I got it. My BiL buys old jewelry from people and this ring was in some stuff he'd purchased. They cleaned it up and she asked me what size I wore. I told her and she was glad cause she really wanted me to have this ring. She said it's a "Happy Recouperation" gift. I love the setting, and she said in the letter she sent along with it, that the setting is what made her want to send it to me...it 'had my name on it'. She's too good to me!!
Hm..is there any other news...???!!! Not that I can think of at the moment. Just thought I'd give y'all something else to read instead of just the usual from me....LOL

Re: Not much goin on
Very interesting, Saijen. Not much is going on with us either - just working on the house, on the gardens, on the trees, and shopping for hard to get foods.
Today the humidity is crippling - I am soaking wet and muggy hot. YUK.. But now at least we don't have the artificial climate creator that does untold harm to one's metabolism.. (A/C) We are using fans to keep control of some comfort, and for the most part they work.. but not here in the office. Time to buy another fan!
Our onions and garlic is sprouting, and smell great - I too love chewing on an onion.
Those tooth brush/picks at WalMart are cool. I use them for cleaning things, as well as teeth.. We don't do the lottery - to do it without spells seems pointless, and to do it with spells is cheating.
We have two carpets in the house - here in the office, and in SiL's bedroom; the rest of the house is either tiled or hardwood floors - much better for a working homestead.

Re: Not much goin on
Well, not much interesting has been going on with me, but I've been busy busy busy! I promise to dedicate more time to the forum starting next week. I'm off full time farm duty starting on June 1st. As much as I love that place, it will be a relief not to HAVE to work there nearly 40 hours a week on top of my other job. The new caretakers are AWESOME!!!! I'll update you guys on all of that soon.
My house is still a construction zone. We got the stove back inside...after 3 months! We've been cooking in the shop out behind the house. Sorta like the old days with the separate kitchen. Problem is, all of the kitchen stuff (utensils, ingredients) are still IN the house, so cooking a meal usual requires a lot of running back and forth unless you remember everything on the first trip! It's nice to have it all back inside.
My onions are also ready to pull...but I've never just eaten them straight! Guess there's a first time for everything...

Re: Not much goin on
muladzh, we don't have a/c in this house, and it helps, actually, with dealing with the heat. We keep windows and doors open during the day, and one door open with screen locked at night, and all windows open. All rooms have ceiling fans except the back bedroom and the kitchen. We have a fan for the back bedroom, it's just never gotten put up. I would be lost without fans!!
We have a tiny one room window a/c that if it gets to the point I simply can't stand it, DH will put it in. We did that last year and I think I used it all of 2 days..LOL. I'm going to do my best not to have him put it in at all this year.
I sooo know what you mean about the muggy hot. It's that way here, still yet. This is one reason I don't like this time of year. If I could have my flowers in mid to late fall, I'd be extremely happy....or earlier in spring!!
Texas, one of these days you'll get your house the way you want it. I know you're glad to have the stove back in the kitchen. I bet it was nice having it out, though, with the heat and all. House didn't get heated up from cooking.
Oh...you need to try to eat at least one fresh from the garden onion..just by itself, or with a dab of salt to 'dip' it into. I still taste the ones I had yesterday LOL.

Re: Not much goin on
Soo...should I go for a yellow, white or red onion? The red ones are VERY oniony. I don't know how else to describe them - very sharp, makes you cry when you cut them, etc. The yellow ones aren't so much and I haven't tried a white one yet.
I didn't plant any sweet onions...maybe that's the kind you mean? I just can't imagine biting into one of those red ones. WOWZERS!

Re: Not much goin on
Texas, we did red and white this year. Most years we've done white and yellow. Thought we'd give the red a try. Yeah, they're a bit "warm", but bein small, they're not too awfully bad, and I can't wait to cut some of them up into some lettuce with bacon and bacon grease!!!! YUMMMMMMMMM (we need a lickin-your-lips emoticon! lol)
The other day I pulled 4...2 of each and had an onion feast. Love, love, love onions!!!!!

Re: Not much goin on
Texas, it may be they get hotter down there than here. The heat does factor into how hot some onions get. Sorry if I got your mouth burned!!! Just wish I had been a fly on the wall

Re: Not much goin on
I'm sorry!!!!
I forgot to mention a project I purchased some stuff for about a week or less ago.
I bought a wooden tray to paint, and some paints, and a rub on design. I'm painting the tray a metallic gold, and the design is a really dark brown, almost black fleur-de-lis. I've got the inside painted, but have not had time to pick it up and work on it the last few days. Maybe tomorrow.
