Quiet 'round these parts...

Where'd everyone scamper off to?

*smells breath* emoticon

*sniffs armpits* emoticon

Aw, come on, I don't stink that bad!!! emoticon

I spent the weekend, as usual, at the farm. We had a three year old birthday party out there on Sunday. It was a blast! I was sous chef to her dad who loves to cook. We made potato salad, pasta salad, agua frescas and pizza (Costco, but with our own added toppings).

The kids had a blast and there was only one incident with the electric fence! emoticon It was the first family that arrived - as soon as the car door was open, the little girl jumped out and ran to the sheep fence and grabbed on. Luckily, we are running the fence pos/neg which means you only get a quick snap if if you touch one [sign in to see URL] get a WALLOP if you cross two wires! The fence was turned off and the day went on without further incident.

Got some great pictures of kids feeding the donkey and the goats. They loved the big tire swing and the sand box. And of course there was a pinata!

My heart has been acting up again a bit lately so I took Monday off to recover. It's nice to have a really understanding boss!

So what's up with you guys?

We are working hard, getting the ground tilled and seedlings in - and trying to survive the bugs and plant eaters. We seem to be getting a chipmunk problem - I need to address that before they ruin a building or vehicle.

The lack of new posts on this board is concerning me somewhat - nothing new to read.

Seems like homesteading boards always slow down this time of year. Lots to do!

Yes, people get busy at this time of the year - even with no homestead!

I'm fighting my own health demons and trying to whip up good marketing for my practice amid lots of other things that just seem to come up.

It'll get better again! emoticon

Re: Quiet 'round these parts...

I thought that I'd have a bit more free time this summer, then usual.. with the decision to dry up the entire herd, leave the building of the new miking parlor for fall.. make a MUCH smaller garden. BUT.. right before we were to dry the does up, we ended up with a new bottle baby buckling.. so that means at least one doe has to stay in milk.. well if we're milking one, might as well milk two (have a bad Chevre habit LOL, with that extra milk I can make a daily batch! LOL) then on sunday one of the older does got her udder punctured. FINALLY got enough supper glue to seal on her, to seal it off. BUT, I don't want an infection setting up, so she needs to be milked out... so, somehow it looks like milking (at least on a smaller scale) and bottle feeding is back on the list for summer.. It was a really wet spring & now we keep getting storms rolling thru. You can hear the grass growing. The weedeater hates me, refuses to get me extra [sign in to see URL] ac keeps trying to freeze up.. just a bunch of little annoying things.
The birthday party sounds so much more fun, then what's been going on here on our homestead.. sorry about the health issues.. thankfully we didn't have so much as a cold this year..

I am in an intense learning phase while still dealing with everyday life (kids, schooling them, taking care of the house, garden, pregnant wife, shopping for a homestead, getting serious about getting in shape etc. ).
I've spent so much of my life saying I'm going to start learning this, and start doing that...... I'm in my mid-30's now and it's all been talk emoticon
I've realized that I need to get the show on the road and start taking care of some of MY goals and desires as well, or I'll be worthless to everyone.
So I'm making a list, not bothering to check it twice, looking to see what I can accomplish tonight, cause life is just waayyy...... to short. emoticon

Curious, that's very exciting.

I know that feeling -- when you get to the point of -- "ok I'm gonna DO something!"

it's a great feeling, almost exciting, even if you have been frustrated with yourself. Go for it with your goals.

We've been VERY busy here. Because we have such a short summer, a lot needs to be done really fast. But I have had lots of energy, and getting things done has been feeding my momentum. The garden is all in except for a few basils I started, and 4 beautiful pepper plants I broke down and brought -- I started a number of peppers but my peppers NEVER look as nice as the ones from the greenhouse -- why?? I need a greenhouse -- that's the answer!! emoticon That stuff will go in today. Then we just have to be really vigilant about frosts -- which seem like they can happen any months. It's been a cool spring.

And stuff feels pretty balanced. I have work, enough of it, and teaching yoga classes, which I love. I sure can't complain.

I'm always happy when I can be outside a lot.

With some of my new-found energy, I'm trying to get some things done. Unfortunately, I'm still in recovery from surgery, so there are times I just sit and piddle the day away, or days like the other day where I literally slept the day away. Those still do happen. Wouldn't take much for me to go to sleep right now and probably be in bed for the night, and it's not even 6 pm yet!! Had a BAD BAD BAD night last night though, so if I were to go to bed now I could easily justify it emoticon

I TRIED to transplant some 4 oclocks today. I'm hoping the storm that blew through here didn't kill them. It was a whopper of a storm.

It won't be long before I'll be busy busy in the kitchen with tomatoes and other goodies from the [sign in to see URL] least I hope I'll be busy!!

I've been trying to get through the posts and all, but it seems that I can't sit still for very long. Not sure if it's med related, or if I'm getting my energy back from being so sick there for those few months. Either [sign in to see URL]'m tryin y'[sign in to see URL]'m tryin!! emoticon

Well, between all the end of year junk I have to do and the other irons I've got in the fire, I've been out of touch...

But, I'm on my last day of work before school's out (and you can see how productive I'm being), so I should be freed up for other things.

I did get my tomotoes in last night, and my peppers, and I droped some cabbage seeds in the ground. Tonight I should be able to get a couple of more rows in.

PC - there's a chunk of your life, if you have kids, that you really just have to put most things on hold. For the first ten years, kids take up all your time, then for the next ten, they take up all your money.

But that's life. emoticon

There'll come a time when they get older and you'll think "Holy Crow, what did I used to do with all my time?"

Then you'll remember, and start doing it again.
