too hot and getting hotter.

I am not liking this - it is too hot, over the 92° forcast by another 5°, and the next few days are threatening to be hotter. I know you folk in Texas are getting much hotter, that is why I don't live there. Being in Washington last year made us appreciate cooler summers; that and being Scotish, unused as I was to anything over 70°.

I still am happy to have removed the massive cause of disease from the house - we none have the sniffles or headaches that would accompany hot days, in this house.

Over 90 certainly qualifies as hot - even if we are over 100 every day now! emoticon

Glad the no AC is working out for you. We can still turn ours off at night but during the day, it's too much. If our house were designed better, we wouldn't need it as much. We are working on that, but you can't really put a breezeway into a house without practically tearing the whole thing down!

Getting rid of that old AC might have been the best move you ever did in this old house. Hope the heat stays bearable.

Re: too hot and getting hotter.

It hit 100° F today, and we have adopted a new regime. We left all the curtains closed, and closed the window before sunrise.. The house got to a bearable 78°F so far today, and clouds have arrived to cool it down a bit, so maybe we have found the way to keep the temperature bearable in the house.

We had to work outside this afternoon - at the 100° mark, that is torture - our new to us mower ceased to function, so we needed to load it up on a trailer, and haul to to a handy man, then push the inoperative thing up his steep driveway. That was unpleasant. The mower had been hacked into somewhat by the previous owner, and the electrical nest under the seat got a problem, probably the same one the guy hacked everything out for. This handy man type guy is an older retiree, and enjoys fixing things, so he hopefully will fix it, so we can attack the ever growing lawns again.

BUT - IT IS HOT...

We don't have any form of A/C.
When the forecast warns it's going to be hot, we always run the box fans in the windows during the night, then take them out and close the curtains (and all windows) on the south & east sides first thing in the morning. Usually keeps the inside quite bearable until late afternoon when the outside temps start subsiding and we can open the house up again.
Of course, living where we do, the outside temps almost ALWAYS go down to very comfortable levels during the night.

I should look for somewhere further north - the overnight temperature defied the forecast again - this time by 12° at a far too hot 84°.

Not only is is too hot, it is way too humid - I am very unused to the discomfort of humidity - such is rare, where I come from - it is humid on occasions, but never hot with it.

Well, we hit 107 yesterday. Supposed to be 110 today. Cools off to around 85 at night. Not really enough to be comfortable but without the sunshine, we can turn the AC off and the house stays reasonable.

Only a few more months of this. emoticon

We had a "cool" front move through about 3pm yesterday afternoon. Been absolutely gorgeous every since! Mid-70's for high and low humidity. Gets down to the high 50's at night.
This is what a normal U.P. summer day is like...... and one of many reasons why we chose to move here emoticon

Re: too hot and getting hotter.

We have made it into the low 90s here the last couple of days. Thankfully, the humidity isn't too bad, so it's been bearable. I think it's going to be a really hot summer, though. I'd be happy in a place that had all 4 seasons, but that winter was really pretty, and summer was very mild. Right now, our lows at night are in the 50s and we run a box fan all night in the window opposite the foot of the bed. We have a box fan in the livingroom window and a intake/exhaust dual fan in the kitchen window over the sink. We also run ceiling fans in the computer room, livingroom, bedroom and diningroom. Otherwise, we'd never make it. I spend a LOT of time during the day outdoors where it's actually a bit cooler in the shade than in the house as long as a breeze is blowing. Nights are cool enough right now that around 2-3am I need a blanket at least over my legs. For some reason, I can not sleep without something over me, even if it's just a sheet, but I prefer the heaviness of a blanket. No idea [sign in to see URL].

Everyone just do their best to stay cool and hydrated!!
