Numinous Experience
Have you had one? For many, it is considered to be the only authentic way to have a religious experience. It can be described as:
It may be viewed as "the intense feeling of unknowingly knowing that there is something which cannot be seen." This "knowing" can "befall" or overcome a person at any time and in any place — in a cathedral; next to a silent stream; on a lonely road; early in the morning or in the face of a beautiful sunset. Similarly, unpleasant or frightening scenes or experiences can lead to a sense of an unseen presence of ghosts, evil spirits or a general sense of the presence of evil. Visions or hallucinations of god, gods, the devil or devils can also happen.
In addition, some have extended it beyond even the religious setting. For example, Christopher Hitchens, points out that a numinous experience does not necessarily imply that something supernatural is afoot.
So have you experienced something that made you absolutely sure (or kinda sure or even maybe just an inkling!) that there was something wholly unhuman out there?

Re: Numinous Experience
I've had a few experiences like that. The first one being when I was 8 yrs old. It wasn't a good experience...scared the bejeebers out of me!! Since, I've had some like that, and others that were very peaceful, and some, just 'passin through'.

Re: Numinous Experience
My genetic line has the gift of Clairsentience going back a long ways (some of us stronger <my grandmother and I> and some weaker but we all have it).
Anyhow I have numinous experiences on a regular basis when I am fully "open". Most days I keep it open just enough to keep track of my immediate family and my home.
This is the link that most friends find easiest to read on the subject of Clairsentience.

I'm curious how long it'll be before science can start measuring the energy?
Speaking of which, here's an interesting article I just read. Is science finally giving credibility to Aura's?

Re: Numinous Experience
Thank you for the links, PC;
Clairsentience is known as oebseers on my Path - it is good to see the English term for it. Most in my family are on that empathic level, though I use my other extra senses more.
Various agencies have long known of the existence of human auras, and how to determine the emotional condition of those displaying them. Academic science is often quite far behind the authorities agencies in these matters - what the public don't know makes the bogey men happier.

Re: Numinous Experience
Being of a non English speaking Path, I find this board extremely useful in learning the English words for many of the senses and abilities that I use daily.
I see ghosts, and can converse with dead folk.. what do you call that?
I can track those I need to, by their property - this is called clairsentience??
I hear spirits, emotions, and fear, what is that called.
I 'remember' the future, and can tell what is coming. We call that Seer. what is it called in English?
What I prophesy occurs about 85% of the time - my family use me as the oracle because of that. Getting an email from some family member asking me if it is a good idea to go on vacation to such a place is normal.

Re: Numinous Experience
Neat PC - I hadn't heard of that term.
muladzh, I'll see if I can help out with some terms. Of course, there are many different terms and all of them can mean slightly different things to different people.
These are parapsychology terms that refer to different variations of being psychic:
Telepathic: can read the thoughts of others
Clairvoyant: 'knowing' something when the information is hidden from you (not by gaining the info from another person's thoughts)
Precognitive: knowing the future (I've heard Seer in pop lit)
And there's also:
Empath: can feel the emotions of others
Medium: a person who can speak to ghosts/dead people
Psychometry: learning about someone from an object

Re: Numinous Experience
I rarely see ghosts anymore, but I can sure talk to them. One night while spending some time at my oldest daughter's, we were up until 4am conversing with 6 ghosts that were 'passing through' and found a place that was accepting (her home). The youngest was 17, the oldest was in his 80s and there were several ages inbetween. It was rather interesting.
There are times I hear what sounds like a radio or TV in another room of the house. I can hear inflections in the voices, I can tell if it's male or female, and I can tell if it's just normal talk or an argument. I can go through the house and nothing will be on, and we're far enough away from anyone else that I know I'm not hearing neighbors.
I've even hollered to see if my DH had come inside and turned the TV on only to discover he was nowhere to be found in the house.
