Learn everything you can - by reading, talking and (most importantly) through direct experience and experimentation.

Don't draw conclusions about what is and is not true or correct until you can collaborate them with your own experiences.

Beware of false prophets.

Welcome to the board Dom! We have several Wiccans on the forum so they can probably give you a bit more direct information. But Corbin is right. Learn absolutely all you can through all means possible.

Your library probably has tons of books you can check out. There's also used book stores. And there's lots of information online. Sometimes it can be hard to tell what is "good" information and what might not be. But the more you learn, the better your understanding will be and you can judge for yourself.

See if there is a local group near you. [sign in to see URL] is great for finding like-minded people in your area. Many Wiccan groups (there are multiple different 'flavors') require specific training and a dedication ceremony once that is complete. Other paths only require a self-dedication ceremony that you can perform on your own. I believe most Wiccan training is considered to be "a year and a day" until you can be considered a full fledged member. But again, each group is going to vary on this.

And of course, come on here and ask any of us specific or general questions you have!

Good luck!

To be True Wiccan you will need a Coven, however I tend to follow the wiccan path but am a solo witch.

Read, Read, Read, I would suggest Scott Cunningham, Buckland, and Silver Ravenwolf.

Some think Silver is a bit of a fluff bunny but she has a lot of basic information.

Witchvox is good. Check around you may have a local pagan shop some where close too you which is a great place to meet other.

i do not believe you need a coven to be true wiccan, there is nothing that says [sign in to see URL] can be a solitary wiccan (hedgewitch)

and as everyone has [sign in to see URL] read and read some more, get a good solid foundation of basic knowledge.

look around on the pagan federation website or [sign in to see URL] may find that there is a local group you can meet up with to socialilse and learn more [sign in to see URL] gatherings are often called moots.
you may also be able to join a coven, which takes a fair amount on time and commitment on your part, however most covens offer teaching.

there are also training courses you can go on too, they train you to become a high [sign in to see URL] best i know of is the "priestess of avalon" training in glastonbury in the UK.
of course you need a good amount of knowledge before undertaking a course like that so reading and practicing is the best way.

good luck! and bright blessings x

The voice of me is in the wilderness again. The practice of Wicca is a very new belief and is nothing to do with the original Pagan folk. Not to say it is not a good place to start, but it's regulations, requirements and other restrictions pertain to Wicca itself, and are not any requirement of Paganism, or the Goddess. There are a few of the original Pagan families around in the world, my own, in Scotland, with others in the highlands also - there are original families in Wales, on the border. Others in Cornwall, and rather a lot of the originals live happily in Pennsylvania, some in Virginia that I know of. The claims of any who report that there are no original Pagans left, and I have heard such at Wiccan meetings, are totally wrong. You don't need Wicca to practice any witchcraft or Pagan festival, all you need is a yearning for the real truth. Spend time in the moonlight, and ask for the Goddess to help you. She will.

I have to agree with muladzh. To be Pagan does not mean you HAVE to be Wiccan. Paganism is a rather large umbrella that covers many factions of religion and beliefs. I started out solitairy, then started classes to join a coven and made it to first degree Wicca, and now, I'm not really much of anything. I've not practiced in a [sign in to see URL] much of other things happening. BUT, if Wicca is the way you want to go, then by all means go for it. Read what is suggested [sign in to see URL] people know what they are talking about.

Now, on another [sign in to see URL] don't think domanikki has been back since posting her comment/request here, so, some of this is a moot point [sign in to see URL]. Not totally, though.
