Hi! I'm the Goatmama.

Hi! I'm so excited I found a Pagan homesteading site! How cool and refreshing! I'm a Texas with a small farm in one of the smallest towns in this huge state. I'm between Fort Worth and Hillsboro. We have some goats and sheep and some chickens. All pets. We also have three turkins, Thing One, Thing Two, and Thing Three. I also have a special baby, a bay cutting horse named Starbuck. He is actually an evil genius mad scientist dressed in a horse suit who loves to play a game called, "Are You Smarter Than a 47 Year Old?". Trust me, he is. Waaaaaaaaaaaay smarter!

I also have three dogs and a crazy barn cat who loves to run around on the roof of the house and play Santa's reindeer.

We get the crazy animals sent to us. We're so lucky.

emoticon Welcome fellow Texan! For a minute, I actually thought you might be MY momma signing up! emoticon She said she would, but she's not much into forums!

We had two turkens nicknamed the Gruesome Twosome. We lost Honey Pie this summer emoticon and now just have Miss Priss left. They are the weirdest critters! Priss doesn't get along with any of the other chickens - she hangs out with the barn cats!

What kind of goats and sheep do you have? We have French Alpines and East Freisian/Navajo Churro sheep. They are so much fun!

Another turkin lover! Are they not the craziest birds? I love their little ugly selves.

I have Jacob and Dorper sheep. Ringleaders are Isaac Prancer, Jacob Supreme, and Lambchop, Dorper Genius. Those two are the barnyard cruise directors, bossing everybody around and carrying tales to mama about everybody's doings. They also babysit all the babies and assist as midwives when needed. They are amazing. Both wethers. They are too funny. I got Isaac Prancer from a breeder who gives all her Jacobs biblical names. I decided he looks like a reindeer and added the Prancer because I am his mama now. He's a five horn, but three grew together into one.

My goats are Lamanchas, Spanish, Boers and pygmies. Their leader is Dobby Louise, an elf earred Lamancha. She is the leader of the escape brigade and lead plotter in the Let's Sneak Into the House game. All the others are quiet and sweet and docile....and then there's Dobby Louise.

The sheep worship the barn cat, Izzabella. They are convinced she is the second coming of Bastet and she must be worshiped with all devotion. They follow her and stare adoringly at her. She likes to mess with their little sheepie minds.

I love my animals. As you can tell.

Another Texan met already! How cool! And even though I'm not your mama, I probably could be, old as I am.

Hi TXgoatmama!

Welcome on board!

I'm glad you joined. I love crazy animals and tales about them. This is the very board to share them.

Sadly, my aspriations at farming are contained by living in town. At least I have a balcony, so I can play a little at gardening.

Wow, your place sounds like a hoot! Cant' wait to hear more stories. Most of our animals are a bit too well behaved...aka boring! emoticon

Mine are not at all well behaved or boring! In fact, I landed myself in the ER last night because my horse, Starbuck, decided he was really REALLY glad to see me yesterday when I got home from work. So he proceeded to act like a 1,500 pound chihuahua, and I went flying. I have a cervical sprain and a torn muscle in my shoulder. But I have a funky collar now and some happy happy joy joy pills! And I still love the little darling, despite his size issues.

Hey there mama...and welcome to the Porch.
Glad you found your way here.

I love the little stories you've already told here about your critters...hehe.

Unfortunately, we rent our little farm house in Upper NE Tennessee so we don't have any neat critters like yours. Just 3 indoor cats (one is my daughter's), a barn cat and 2 outside dogs. I'd love to have a goat or 2 and some other critters....I'll just have to live vicariously through those of you who do have critters....lol.

Looking forward to your stories and getting to know you better!!

Again....welcome aboard!!!

Blessed Be,

Re: Hi! I'm the Goatmama.

I was a Baltimore City girl for my entire life before moving to Texas and finding my little paradise. I absolutely delight in my animals and get great joy from their antics. They, you see, are not sewer rats! emoticon

This morning I opened the back door to let my three little girl dogs out and found my sheep on the back porch demanding to be let in where there is heat. But wait, I told them. The barn has heat and you are all wearing heavy wool coats! So what is with all that? They are just spoiled brats. And I know Starbuck let them out of their pasture so they could even get to the back porch. The goats were all huddled in their barn, also heated, and not venturing their little hoofies into the muck and mire and frost. The horse was laughing at me the whole time, I swear.

The barn cats, who have a "heated deluxe condominium" my husband built them in the feed shed, are now in my house. I call it the Mommy barn. I'm sure all the mice are in the kitty condo even as we speak.

I really need to get tough on those critters!

Sorry to hear about Starbuck's enthusiasm the other night! Gee, a 1500 lb chihuahua really does sound like a handful!

Our "barn cats" also live in the Momma barn! emoticon I don't even think ours have EVER been in the barn!

The only mice they catch are made of catnip. And they don't even really catch them. They know their mama's feelings on violence.
