Another religion?
Ok, play along with this hypothetical situation. Let's say that whatever religion/spirituality you follow has been outlawed and you are required to pick a different one, what would it be?
For instance, if you are Wiccan, assume that all paganism spiritualities have been outlawed and you have to pick amongst other religions.

Re: Another religion?
Buddhism, probably. Of course, Taoism also appeals.

Re: Another religion?
Oh come on, guys! Give a little explanation! Honestly, I know very little about Taoism. Why would you pick it?
I had a feeling Buddhism would be a popular choice. I think I would choose it as well. It's appealing to me because there isn't a Creator god and because it seems to be rather individualistic. I do have some "problems" with it though. A literal version of rebirth doesn't fit my sense of the universe very well. It's not completely against it, I just don't have a feel for it I guess you could say.

Re: Another religion?
I am not religious, but if I had to pick one, then, I'd follow the other 2 posters to make myself a Taoist.
As a matter of fact, I would rather consider Taoism as "philosophy" than "religion". Tao is all about how to understand the relationship between humanity and the cosmos (天人相应)
I am often lazy, "Wu Wei" could be my good excuses for doing nothing.
oh. mine, I have just realized that I am very "tao" & "zen" lol

Re: Another religion?
terrorist!
while i dont outwardly "practice" any religion, i do live to a certain set of morals. many drawn from Buddhism and an ecclectic assortment of native ways.
if my way of life was threatened or made illegal, the only thing i would be chosing would be my weapons!
i am not a violent person, i have NEVER been in a fight or struck a living thing in anger. but if anyone intends to force there way of life on me and prevent me from following my own beliefs. they got a fight on their hands.
i am actually very surprised that anyone would so easily "convert" to another way of life just because your chosen way was illegal?
tell me this, if you were straight and heterosexuallity was made illegal, would you become homosexual?

It's just a hypothetical. If you HAD to choose another religion, what would it be? Not what would you do if your way of believing was outlawed. I just didn't know how else to ask the question. I guess I could have said - "what's the runner-up choice for you for a belief system?" That's all I was getting at!

Re: Another religion?
I picked Taoism because it is already so mingled in with many of my beliefs. There is very little that I disagree with.
They have a heavy emphasis on Nature. On Energy and the Flow. They emphasize knowing/understanding the world through knowing/understanding yourself.
The only real reason I label myself Pagan is simply because I focus mostly on Nature and Energy. But depending on my walk at the time, I mainly move back and forth between the two.
Fun fact: Most of the religious/spiritual aspects of the Star Wars series is taken from Taoism.

I wouldn't "convert". This was nothing more then a friendly exercise of thought.

Re: Another religion?
I would probably simply choose to be nothing at all....on the face of it. Then, quietly go about business as usual. BUT, If I HAD to choose.....well...I don't know enough about any other religion except Christianity to make an informed choice, to be honest..LOL. Don't think I would go back that direction, though.

Re: Another religion?
I'd pick Taoism as well, because everything I already know can be just as easily be described through Taoist philosophy. All I'd have to do would be translate.
