Re: Herbs
I copy/pasted Queeny's post about the herbs into the new Reference Guide Forum...so, it will be there if anyone wants to look at things in the future instead of trying to find it where it may be buried. lol

Re: Herbs
Oh lovely indeed....I hope you can get a lavender plant to grow again. I'd be suspicious of that area. Might be grubs around there....

Re: Herbs
Thanks...y'all
Queeny, I had 2 lavender plants, on each side of the front steps...they were there for about 3-4 years before they died. Other things grow there just fine, so think it was a deadly frost that killed them.

Re: Herbs
I finally went plant shopping yesterday. It was a BEAUTIFUL day so the plant store was a total madhouse. They had already been picked clean so I didn't have too many options. I got several different thymes, some oregano, peppermint and sage. They had parsley but it seemed absurdly expensive for an annual. So I will have to wait for next year to grow my own from seed.
I'll post pictures when I finally get things in!

Re: Herbs
Saijen it's go bad that the frost got your Lavender plants. You should see what that sub-zero temps for 4 days straight 3 weeks ago did to 100 plus year old Prickly Pear cactus?
Oh it just breaks my heart! They look like rubber....all folded over, almost like water flowing over. I guess all the water in them froze and exploded the cells...I doubt those that are totally gone can have anything done....so exceptionally sad. As I said, they are so very slow growing and some were taller than me....so over 6 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet around, took close to a hundred years to grow...
TM, I'm so glad you were able to grab some! Who would have guessed that they'd already be picked over. Keep your eye on community events going on round your area. Sometimes late spring the local horticulturalists and gardeners may have a sale...*fingers crossed*

Re: Herbs
There are a couple of sales this coming week or two. Not sure if I will hit those or simply go back to the nursery on a weekday. They grow tons of plants there so there is a constant supply - you just have to get there when there aren't a million people!
If I go back to that place (The Natural Gardener), I'll take some pictures for you guys. It's AMAZING! They have lots of 'show' gardens around the place, including a small vineyard, herb garden, vegetable garden, japanese, water ponds, etc. And they have chickens, two pygmy goats and two mini donkeys! It's a beautiful place to visit even if you aren't buying plants!
We lost a big prickly pear a few years ago. It was as tall as our roof and gorgeous. It did come back though - just needed to be heavily pruned...and wait 20 years for it to be the same size again!
