A question

I've read a little from the links posted at the top and from some I found on my own. This may be a dumb question but I am curious.. Are Wicca and Pagan the same? Or are they just similar?

Re: A question

It's not a dumb question at all, Becky.

Pagan is a term that encompasses a large area of different beliefs. Wicca is one of those beliefs, as is Asatru, Wizardry, HedgeWitch, etc. So, you could say that Paganism is an umbrella that covers a wide range of things.

This says it pretty well....check out the Wikipedia explanation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paganism

Be sure to read the Etymology on that page as well. It will help.

Hope this helps emoticon

Re: A question

I was a part of a Wiccan coven for a short time. I prefer being a bit more Solitary, because I don't want to have to do all the ritual all the time every time I go into circle.

I had started out basically just learning. Some friends of mine are a High Priest and High Priestess (married couple) and they were starting some classes to build a coven.

I am a first degree initiate in the British Tradition (there are many different Wiccan Traditions out there....most are very close in beliefs, some are a bit out there..so be careful)

Our coven ended up disolving, due to lack of time, and there were only 3 of us..the High Priestess, myself and one other...and that one other was a bit of a freak...we got rather leary of her, so, rather than hurt feelings, we just decided maybe we needed to not worry about having a coven. The HPS (High Priestess) is my best friend, now.

Wicca can be very interesting....as can many of the other beliefs found under Paganism. I love the entire natural aspect of it all...the caring, love, devotion to self and others (in that order). What's nice about many of the beliefs is that you don't HAVE to do magic in order to hold the beliefs...it's just a side benefit. I enjoy the magical side as much as the rest, I have to admit. And I've done spells, made talismans, charged items for myself and others. It's very empowering to know you have this much power in you, if you'll only tap into it.

I wish you had gotten to meet Muladzh. He was one of our members, but due to computer problems and where he's now living, it wasn't an advantage for him to keep the internet. He is one of the neatest people. He's a Wysert (basically a type of Wizard...but more). Just a very interesting person. I do miss him around here!

Ask if you have any more questions!! emoticon

Trust me Becky there are no dumb questions...and even if there were...I've already asked them! emoticon

And you asked a very good question. There are soooo many paths one can take, it's almost mind boggling and none are wrong. It's all about what makes sense to you, and what you feel most at ease with.

I'm like Saijen as far as solitary goes. I'm less into magik and more into Nature and it's healing forces...But the magik is fascinating.

Muladzh helped me beyond belief. I must have sent him dozens of emails and he was always so kind and responsive and understanding. There were times when he'd have to reply to me several times, trying to explain something to me in different ways before I'd "GET IT"... emoticon
If I'd had the courage to keep going...doing the rituals (but as I've explained before, my husband does not share this path with me. emoticon ) then I think Muladzh would have enlightened me to the highest level....he once said the kindest thing to me.....I was bemoaning about this ring I was given, saying that I thought perhaps I was too old, had more hair on my chin than on my head, to wear such a thing and he told me...
"If we do this that we are trying to do right, you will last for another fifty years, keeping grasp on health and wits - so, you are yet a child, learning to live right."
He also 'called' me by my first real "Pagan" name....and I was honored. I do miss him as well... emoticon

What a neat story about Muladzh, Queeny! He was a very insightful, helpful person...and very wise! His input here will be sorely missed. I am thankful that all of our members right now are also very wise, insightful and helpful...we have an awesome bunch here, and I'm honored that we do!

And I think we may have the return of yet another lost member! emoticon LavenderWings may be returning emoticon...and she may be bringing some friends with her so, I'm really happy about that.

There is a great deal of magic in nature..and it's healing forces, if we just dig into our brains to find what's needed. It's in all of us..we just have to find it and use it. emoticon

Re: A question

I must find time to read more. Cause I am most certainly solitary. I'm not into groups.. I'm sure I will have plenty more questions.
