March New Moon
Today is the new moon. The moon is directly in line between the Earth and the Sun and therefore it is not illuminated except for a dim light reflected from the Earth. This month, you should be able to just see the waxing moon over the next few days right after sunset. March is the best month to view the newest moon!
Do you celebrate this phase? What does it mean to you? Anything special planned?

Re: March New Moon
As a Solitary (whose hubby does not approve), I'll just welcome the "Moon" back.
I know the Pagan Pride group that Son is a part of is performing the "Welcome Ceremony"..**(For anyone who is interested)**
They will cast their circle, make up the alter and have their Moon Candle...Mirror...and the 'blessing oil' on hand...
Cast the Circle:
Welcome back, Moon!
We're glad to see you again.
Another cycle has passed
another month gone by
and our lives have moved forward.
Place the candle on the altar and light it, still facing the moon. Say:
Today is a new day,
and a new month begins.
As the tides flow, and the moon rises above,
we are thankful that She has returned.
She watches over us, ever constant,
yet always changing,
and we are thankful for her light.
Next, they will turn to face east, where the sun will rise in the morning. Pick up the mirror and hold it so you can see the new moon behind you. Say:
Bring us your wisdom, your guidance,
your protection, in the coming month.
You are behind me at every step,
watching and guiding me,
and I am thankful.
Then they'll place the mirror back on the altar, beside the moon candle. Take a moment to reflect on their goals. After all, this is a time of new beginnings, and a good time for new commitments and vows. (And son just found his "Soul-bonded mate", so this is particularly touching for him. )
They'll warm the Blessing Oil over the candle for just a moment, and then anoint each others' foreheads. Saying:
May the blessings of the moon be with you.
Then, they'll close the circle and end the ritual. And I'm certain with that group, they will end with a Cakes & Ale ceremony.

Re: March New Moon
Thanks for sharing Queeny! I love hearing how other people celebrate the passing of time, seasons and other natural events like this!

Re: March New Moon
I'd love someday to be able to join them...
I DO KNOW that in April,(it's either the 8th or 9th) I am going to Pagan Pride day on the NMSU campus....they have Tarot and rune readings and do several ceremonies and have plants and herbs for sale....And hubby ain't stopping me this year.

Re: March New Moon
Queeny, that sounds great!
I recognize the moon phases, and I love, love, love seeing the thin slice of a waxing moon just after the new moon. It's my favorite view, alas, not one I get often.
It might be nice to figure out a little ritual for myself for the new moon, though.

Re: March New Moon
It's pretty easy for me...I usually sit outside on the picnic table just at sunset and sunrise...usually get some awesome pictures.
SO tonight, I'll sit out there as usual and just welcome the "new moon"...

Re: March New Moon
I wish I had the where-with-all to do something this year.
Queeny, that ritual sounds really nice that your son's group does. I may have to adopt that for next year. I need to get my BOS out and write it down...hopefully I can remember to do that soon. Too tired right now. If I tried to write all that right now, I'd not be able to read it LOL.
May have to do a copy/paste into the computer's notepad, then tuck it into my documents to print out later. Done! LOL...figured better now than to forget and have to dig to find it again!

Re: March New Moon
That's usually the first place I look..lol. and when I do, I realize I have what I'm looking for on paper somewhere else...or in a notebook!!!
I want to print this out, though, and put it into my BOS. It's a really nice ritual. But...it's not much fun doing some rituals by yourself!!

Re: March New Moon
Queeny that was very cool. I love reading about the Moon. The Native Americans have a lot of interesting stuff about it.
