The first color on this page

Saijen's kitchen color

is very close to the color we are going to paint the kitchen and utility room. I will accent it with yellow.

I have a white valance with sunflowers on it over the window in the utility room, and white lace valances at the kitchen windows. the kitchen window ones have coffee cups woven into the lace. The color scheme is supposed to be light green, yellow and white. A lot depends on if I can find the right yellow accents.

Oh I like that.....reminds me of the first leaves that come in spring....that very gentle green.
And will look smashing with your yellow! emoticon

Re: About to embark on some renovations

we had to change the color. We went last night to buy it, and they couldn't match it, so we picked another green, which I think I'm really gonna like.

This is the new color. You may need to adjust how you view it to ensure you get the right color. In the picture of the room, it's the lighest green on the walls.

http://www.valsparatlowes.com/en/explore-colors/color-selector/index.html?ref=colorSelector_homepage_flash#1

It's a bit more yellow than the color we had originally picked out, but I like it. It will look very fresh, clean and nice in there. Still have some mudding to do, but it won't be long before we're painting!!!

We looked at flooring last night and found one we like. It looks like slate...in shades of gray and brown, but neutral enough to go with about any color one would want to put on the wall. We'll look further, but for now, that's the one we like. We'll have to put a real thin piece of wood down over the existing floor to ensure the floor is fairly even and to give any vinyl tiles we do get a better medium to stick to. We'll most likley use the peel and stick tiles, but we'll also use the spray on glue stuff to make sure they stay down. As soon as we have a definite flooring choice, I'll post it.
More mudding was done today...another couple of rounds of mudding, and drying and we'll be all set. Maybe then, I can reclaim my kitchen and utility room. DH is fussing cause he needs clean socks, but I can't get to my washer or dryer!!!!! both are covered in tools, drywall and saw dust and just junk. I'll be so happy to have my stuff back, and dust free! LOL

Don't forget that the more "yellow" accents you use the more the yellow will come out in the paint.

Don't you just love doing drywall and mudding? *sarcasm inserted here!* emoticon

You know, I've been quietly smiling at the word "mudding". I think it means using gypsum to cover all holes and edges. Am I right?

Saijen, I hope it all turns out just the way you want it!

Yeah....mostly. Also is used over tape to cover seams between pieces of drywall sheets.

Ah, yes. I know exactly what you mean. I've always been looking for that word. We have an expression in German that fits that exactly: "spachteln". I've done my share of that.

Yep, messy and I think it's the worst part of the "prep" work to do with remodeling or before painting... emoticon

Re: About to embark on some renovations

having to sand that stuff is the worst, as it's such a fine dust and it gets all over EVERYTHING!!!!!

Firle, some people use the term spackling, which comes close to your German word...but it's not the same, exactly. Close enough, though.

Doin clean-up now, and hopefully we'll be painting this weekend.

I found 2 ceramic tiles to hang in the kitchen that have yellow, green, brown, cream....they're really pretty, and they each have a saying on them. I got them at Big Lots for a dollar each. Can't wait to see how they'll look once we get the paint on the walls!

Slow goin at the moment, but, it'll get there. The guys are prepping the outside of the house for new gutters, so, while they're working outside tomorrow, I'll work in the kitchen, cleaning up dust. If my SIL is here, I'll get her to help me.

Sanding was part of the prep work I mentioned. I hated the sanding....keep the air conditioner and/or heater off....or your ducts fill up with that fine dust too... emoticon
Just remember to take it easy... emoticon
Can't wait to see the pictures!! emoticon
We ARE getting pictures of the completed room...........right? emoticon
