Another fire!

Wow, what a week. There was another fire near the farm, maybe a mile away. That does sound like an awful far distance but it was still way too close. We were on the way out there when we saw the smoke. My mom called and said it was close and to hurry up. We got there in about 15 minutes and it had gone from small fire to big blaze.

They blocked the road shortly thereafter so I couldn't get anymore pictures until it had died down a bit. But there were four helicopters and two airplanes circling for hours. It was incredible watching them work!

View from the front yard once they got it mostly under control:

It's out and we're [sign in to see URL] scared. This can seriously happen anytime, anywhere...

Geeeez, Texas!!!! That's enough to scare anyone. A mile is way too close! That's not a far distance at all. I'm SO glad y'all and the farm are OK! I sure do wish there was some way to get rain down there to all of y'all! Enough to wet things down to help stop all these blazes! Goodness me. This just worries me to no end. Between you being down there, and my daughter and her hubby and my sister and her hubby also being down [sign in to see URL] worry constantly! You're closer to my daughter than she is to my [sign in to see URL] any fires in either direction get to [sign in to see URL] or west Texas!

Those are some awesome photos of the choppers doing their thing. I love the ones that hold the water in the belly of the [sign in to see URL] look like alien bugs or something! I'm sure it was interesting watching them [sign in to see URL] I'm also pretty sure a lot of prayers were going up that they had enough water and fire retardant to get the blaze out so it wouldn't spred!!

Did they ever find out if that one near your home was arson or not, for sure??

PLEASE, please, please stay safe!!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

TM, my goodness, that was close! Glad they suppressed it right away, and I'm even more glad it didn't get closer.

I'm not sure they were dumping fire retardant - if there is any left in the state, I bet they are still using it in Bastrop! Lucky for us, there was a big tank not even a 5 minute round trip for the helicopters, so they had ample water.

Honestly, this fire made me feel safer. I know that sounds silly. But we got to see the response teams in action. Even with resources stretched to the limit, they fought this aggressively and competently. As long as we can prevent a fire from starting on our own property, then I just can't imagine we will have a [sign in to see URL], that and as long as the winds stay down. That's how the Bastrop fire got so out of control.

I suppose it [sign in to see URL] another thing it did, was get rid of any and all fire fuel that was in that direction! emoticon

[sign in to see URL] safe!!! These fires mean business. I SO wish Texas would just get dumped on, big time, with [sign in to see URL] and more rain!!!

It's so sad seeing some of the devastation this drought is causing. Not just crops, but animals! [sign in to see URL]'s heartbreaking.

I'll worry about y'all, and my family in various parts of Texas and Arkansas until I know there's been enough rain to douse all the fires, and bring everything back up to [sign in to see URL] close to normal!
