Autumnal Equinox

Anybody doing anything fun?

Hubby and I have PROMISED ourselves (yet again) to lay the first stone in a sun circle in the yard on the morning of. We've been trying to do this for several years now but farm work has almost always gotten in the way. Other than that, we haven't planned anything yet but I'll probably cook a meal with the first fall veggies. I didn't mean to actually be saving the winter squash and sweet potatoes but I just couldn't get in the mood to cook them. Well, now I'm in the mood!

Wow, that sounds neat.

I haven't planned anything. Maybe I should. Just a little time for meditation, thinking about the transition from summer to fall, from growth to consolidation. Light a candle, listen to some nice music ... sounds good!

Hope I can remember. emoticon

Re: Autumnal Equinox

Here, I'm just planning on a 'second harvest' dinner, thanking the Goddess for her bounty. And then before I fall asleep, I'll do my "balance" meditation on the changing seasons,
The kids (son and friends) are planning on a Mabon ceremony/celebration tonight and then a "Sleep under the Stars" in the State campgound on Thursday the Autumnal Equinox. They will be having a brilliant time!

OH AND A REMINDER TO YOU ALL: *cough...Firle, Saijen* cough, cough*

A Time of Positive and Negative Energy

Mabon is one of those times of year that affect people in different ways. For some, it's a season to honor the darker aspects of the goddess, calling upon that which is devoid of light. For others, it's a time of thankfulness, of gratitude for the abundance we have at the season of harvest. No matter how you see it, Mabon is traditionally a time of balance. After all, it's one of the two times each year that has equal amounts of darkness and daytime.

Because this is, for many people, a time of high energy, there is sometimes a feeling of restlessness in the air, a sense that something is just a bit "off". If you're feeling a bit spiritually lopsided, with this simple meditation you can restore a little balance into your life.

Setting the Mood

Now that fall is here, why not do an autumn version of Spring Cleaning? Get rid of any emotional baggage you're dragging around with you. Accept that there are darker aspects to life, and embrace them, but don't let them rule you. Understand that a healthy life finds balance in all things.

You can perform this ritual anywhere, but the best place to do it is outside, in the evening as the sun goes down. Decorate your altar (or if you're outside, use a flat stone or tree stump) with colorful autumn leaves, acorns, small pumpkins, and other symbols of the season. You'll need a black candle and a white one of any size, although tealights probably work best. Make sure you have something safe to put them in, either a candle holder or a bowl of sand.

Light both candles, and say the following:

A balance of night and day, a balance of light and dark
Tonight I seek balance in my life
as it is found in the Universe.
A black candle for darkness and pain
and things I can eliminate from my life.
A white candle for the light, and for joy
and all the abundance I wish to bring forth.
At Mabon, the time of the equinox,
there is harmony and balance in the Universe,
and so there shall be in my life.

Meditate on the things you wish to change. Focus on eliminating the bad, and strengthening the good around you. Put toxic relationships into the past, where they belong, and welcome new positive relationships into your life. Let your baggage go, and take heart in knowing that for every dark night of the soul, there will be a sunrise the next morning.

Queeny, thank you! That's a wonderful little ritual.

My Tarot card today is Eight of Swords - not one that's "nice" at first glace. However, it tells of how we are bound by believes and old habits, and how we can win freedom by looking at them and deciding which ones serve and which ones hold back.

I like that a lot, and it does fit Mabon, as well, I think. It's about what's good and bad and then about archiving a new balance.

Re: Autumnal Equinox

Actually, and I'm a bit embarassed here, but I had totally forgotten when the equinox was.....I've gotten a bit lost in other things the last couple of weeks.

However even not knowing when it was, I had planned on, (if it's not raining) to sit outside on one of the porches, and make an attempt to play my new penny whistle that I ordered Saturday and got today. Ok..well, since I'm typing all of this after midnight, technically, I got it yesterday! LOL....at any rate, DH has to work Friday night, so I won't disturb him, unless he's home before I go out. I had not planned on doing this for the equinox, but just as something someone had mentioned I may want to try...but, if it comes on the equionx....more the better!!! emoticon

Queeny, I like the wording on the ritual....I may have to come up with my own, though. I have learned that things you say, word, create, on your own, actually have a much higher impact on your desire that you're speaking, than something you've read somewhere, or that someone else writes. If you didn't write this...it's ok to use it as a template...but create your own. I can promise it will have a lot more power!!! emoticon

Look at the stars, at the moon, wherever She is, and wink. Ritual done. Play some music on something, sit around a fire (but not this year.. emoticon ) and think of the things to come. Autumn is not the happiest Equinox, it pushes on to the night of the hallowed, when the Horned God goes from this world, to the nether world, living as Spirit, until YULE, when he is reborn physical.. (sounds a bit like those christian bits, don't it.) So we know what is coming and it is sorrowful, even though we are happy about the gathered harvest (again, not this year emoticon ) and the start of the wondrous colors of Autumn, or should I say Colour..

Muladzh, I certainly like your ritual. emoticon

In fact, I've been feeling very unsettled since yesterday. Needed to tap a lot on feeling alone and left behind. I do believe it has to do with the season. I've rarely been so reluctant to enter fall as I am this year.

Of course, that might be because I feel cheated out of summer. We mostly had rain and cool days from June to now. The only difference is that now the rain is a few degrees colder. emoticon

Right now, I also hate daylight savings time. It makes me get up in the dark already! ARGH! That's one thing I'd really like to do (I know people who are doing it): Never get up before sunrise. Kinda hard to do in winter if you hold a job. *sigh*

Anyway, time to hunker down and ride fall into winter until the time when the sun returns. But like Muladzh said, it's not a happy time for me right now.

Re: Autumnal Equinox

Firle I hate getting up before sunrise, or at least MUCH before sunrise. It's nice to be a few minutes early so I can see the sun peaking over the horizon. But waking up in the dark? Ugh, hate it. Fortunately I can adjust my schedule at work and sleep in...if Willa lets me!

And I'm very ready for fall. We stole your summer and I wish I could give it back as it was enough for two summers. Please do send rain.

Well, we have the stone circle even more planned now. We have decided to make the stones from hypertufa. I didn't want 'fake' stones at first but I think they came seem more important since we made them. We will be practicing with some smaller ones soon!

Saijen...
I, unfortunately won't be doing the actual ritual (hubby and campground and all..it was more a 'reminder' to those here)....just the meditating on the 'balance' of the seasons.
Muladzh,I know it's not a boisterous, type of joyous celebration...but a celebration non-the-less...I'm certain the kids will be respectful and subdued...especially considering it's two Shaman who are to be with them all up there..

But, I do like your ritual...very simple. Even I could remember that one! emoticon

FIRLE.. I think everyone feels differently this season...because the whole year has been thrown off.. emoticon Everywhere we went this Summer...someone would comment that it's "not typical"...Not sure what Mother is doing, but something is amiss... emoticon
