Re: Goings on at the farm
TM: Hope Texas won't be headed that way. That would be very, very hard.
Fall storms have started here, with heavy rains and strong winds. First cold front to move through, of many more to come.

Re: Goings on at the farm
Some part of me just can't imagine it could last for 9 years. Sure, we may have less than average rainfall, but I don't think it can really go THIS BAD that whole time.
We have a 40% chance this weekend...

Re: Goings on at the farm
We are in New Mexico and they are down too....and like I said Arizona was off by many, many inches too and look at how many horrible dust storms they have had this year. Way more than normal....
I'm hoping that prediction does not come true either.....or it may be another great Depression type of situation....major "Dust bowl"...

Re: Goings on at the farm
Unfortunately, there is a major astronomical / astrological event happen right now, that has building events to the Winter Solstice of 2012, then receding to a new state of normalcy by 2020 - a new "Age" is nearly here, and the odd weather of the last couple of years is it coming into being - it will get marginally worse until the end of 2012 then will ease off, but the weather is never going to be the same - well not for about 15,000 years that is. So rain is going to be more in some places - here in Washington it will go up some, but it will unfortunately be much less in places that really need it.
My advice for those of you in the drought areas is do not waste any of that rain that does come - build something that will catch it all of your house, barn, sheds and whatever - use polythene to catch it between trees, and store it in barrels for irrigation and washing - buy a British Berkey filter system and you can use for cooking and drinking. It is easy to harvest water, but the idea is strange to the modern world - but if you don't harvest what arrives, you lose out. Think about it - when it rains in the deserts, it FLOODS - if you had caught that water in barrels, or tanks, you could survive with just one rainfall a year. A 50ft by 30ft house will catch over 100 gallons an hour, in a reasonable rain storm. In the desert in Nevada, we filled 15 5gallon buckets in one hour's rainfall.

Re: Goings on at the farm
Thank you for that wisdom and heads up, Muladzh.
Here that gang? Anyone with a farm/home that will have no choice, must find a way to collect the rain water. Mother gives it to us for a reason...lets not waste it. The Earth is a changing.....we must adapt.

Re: Goings on at the farm
I'm not quite sure what to expect here. We do get decent rainfall, but there are times we go through almost drought...other times, almost flooding. Going to be interesting, so say the least!!
