I'm sure my Mom was a bit disappointed. My Sister is in total denial, even though I have my Cat Ginger with a slightly transparent pentacle over her face, and the word BELIEVE! So, they all know.....but I guess the proof is in the pudding. My Dad was raised Mormon and mistreated as a kid, put up for adoption and so he's not what you would call religious. Mom, I think she's had enough disappointments in her life to question a bit. And you are so right, I told Mom about some of the Pagan things they did, that we do... nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Fri, 11 Nov 2011 18:55:31 +0000 Re: Some pictures from Pagan Pride Day 2011https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240348,from=rss#post240348https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240348,from=rss#post240348Queeny, I know my mother well enough to know that if I told her I was Pagan, I'd never hear the end of it, regardless of the kindness that I'd show, or the goodness that I did. To her...those things won't get you into Heaven, and if you don't get into Heaven, then the only alternative is, you're goin to Hell. (I capitalized heaven and hell because they are places Christians believe in,...and my past English teachers would have a fit if I didn't..lol). Mom is pretty sure that our best friends are Pagan, but she still thinks I'm Christian, even though I've told her a little about some of the things we've done with our best friends...about all of us swimming naked...even with a child there, about the Ancestral Dinners (which she was actually very interested in because of it honoring ancestors in a special way....she's not aware of the full reasoning behind why it's done at that point in the year), she knows about the time we danced the Maypole and had a really fun May Day (Beltane)...she even told a story about dancing the Maypole when she was a child...I wonder if she knows the origins of the Maypole and what it and the wreath represent...LOL. She's done a lot of Paganistic things without realizing what they were..at least at the time she did them, but if I were to tell her I am Pagan....it seriously would not bode well for me at all. And if Dad's side of the family found out...may as well get ready to have that "she's dead" party, because I'd have to shoot myself to stop having to listen to all the garbage I'd get. Just not worth it. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf1)Fri, 11 Nov 2011 06:57:14 +0000 Re: Some pictures from Pagan Pride Day 2011https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240295,from=rss#post240295https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240295,from=rss#post240295That was in Las Cruces, NM. It's actually part of a national Pagan Pride movement. Saijen...that is how I approached my MOM. I just told her. "Mom, I don't need you to accept this, I won't try to change you, you don't try to change me. Hubby does not even follow this. But my son and I are both Pagan." But the only details I went into was that we believe that everything had a soul, we cherish this Earth we live on and try to do the best we can as we live here. We ARE NOT Devil worshipers, do not do sacrifices or any of the horrible things you have heard associated with Pagans. Then the longer we were together over those two months that we were at their place...she saw my happiness, my calm. And even commented on how much happier I seemed. And every chance I got, I showed her and her friends kindness and love and made them laugh...even when we visited her best friend there, whose husband was brought home from hospice, basically to die at home. BOY! Was Alara with me that day. I could do no wrong, I could show no more love, understanding and even laughs. Even the woman's husband laughed and so did the hospice care worker..she also gave me a hug and said I brought a rainbow when I walked into that room.....It was ALL Alara, cause when we got home. I went for a loooong walk and cried my eyes out! EMPATH in a room full of people who were waiting for a loved one to die....Damned hard! BUT....MOM accepted me, not so much from my words, but from my Deeds and mannerisms. And as you can see on my FB page, I say what I want about Bright blessings, Samhain...anything. If my Sister or others want to question me.....FINE, I have only myself to answer to. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Wed, 02 Nov 2011 20:32:32 +0000 Re: Some pictures from Pagan Pride Day 2011https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240265,from=rss#post240265https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240265,from=rss#post240265Ain't it funny that atheists are accepted more than Pagans. When I was in the military, they did not like my stated belief, as Pagan, so wrote me up an atheist. I tried for years to get them to change that, but they never would. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Wed, 02 Nov 2011 05:37:12 +0000 Re: Some pictures from Pagan Pride Day 2011https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240255,from=rss#post240255https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240255,from=rss#post240255LOL...glad you liked my little saying. The Halloween thing of the Witch smashed on the tree came to mind when I wrote that...LOL. I think that's neat about the lace covered area of the walk-way. Very symbolic. I would love to 'come out of the closet' to my family, but I so do NOT need, or want, the grief I know I'd get. I'd get preached at a lot more than I already do....and I'm almost 53 yrs old! It's sad, really. Maybe I need to just go about it like I did when I took Tex to meet my Mom. I told her I was not introducing him to the family to get acceptance or their 'permission'...I simply wanted them to know who I was going to be with. Maybe I should just say..."I have something to tell you all, I do not need your approval, I do not need or want to be preached at, but I have change religous paths. I am on a Pagan pathway...something I think I've been on since I was a child....and don't tell me I don't know what I was doing as a child, because it's not changed in 40+ years...so, either you accept me as I am, or not. It's your choice"...and be done with it. I just hate to be that crass, and potentially lose my family because of it. I know that no one, outside of Fenyx, would understand, and I'd get all kinds of crap. Wish I were as comfortable as my cousin who is an Atheist and doesn't care who knows. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf1)Wed, 02 Nov 2011 03:35:56 +0000 Re: Some pictures from Pagan Pride Day 2011https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240238,from=rss#post240238https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240238,from=rss#post240238TOTALLY SHIT...love that saying! So going to use that someday, I swear! They did have a black lace cloth covering a walk under sign....it was meant to represent "coming out of the closet" or for those afraid to, because of jobs and worry about persecution. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Mon, 31 Oct 2011 22:19:38 +0000 Re: Some pictures from Pagan Pride Day 2011https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240197,from=rss#post240197https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p240197,from=rss#post240197Queenyforever wrote: And yeah...there are wannabe's everywhere and what is funny...last year they tried to 'protest' the day...ended up not making a difference! Isn't that drum just gorgeous! That is Sabine (NMSU's horticulturist)and a Shaman/Pagan, doing the drum call to circle....lovely woman. You get all warm and fuzzy when she gives you a hug, ya know? And it looked like the perfect day for this to have taken place!! I love that huge drum at the altar!! Heck, I love that altar!! I've thought about setting up a new altar. I've not had one since we did the floors. I'm glad y'all had a good time, but I'm really sorry that your back didn't allow you to enjoy it all the way through!! Gotta love the wanna-be's, huh? LOL...they be EVERYwhere!! Good thing your 'spidey sense' was in good working order. Or...should that be 'wannabe sense'?
