Not mine, but interesting

Texas' post of Willa's besom in the Home and Hearth forum got me to thinking about our local artisans here in Rogersville and Hawkins County.

I bought a beautiful Rooster Tail broom from a local broom maker, so thought I'd share a bit about the Local Artist Gallery here in my town.

There is a broom maker here in our county that used to sell his brooms at the local Artist's Gallery. I bought one of his 'Rooster Tail' brooms...and would love to get another of his, if he's still there. I've not been in there in a while. Most of the stuff is pretty pricey.

I was amazed the first time I went in there...and usually buy something every time I do go. I bought a bell made from a gourd and the rooster tail broom and some other gourd items.

This is the lady I got the gourd stuff from

And this is the broom guy...guess he is still there.

I love going into the Gallery.
And the store front you see....that entire part of Main Street looks like that! I love downtown!!!!

Neat! I really want to get some other brooms/besoms for the house. We need a nice whisk broom for the fire place and I'd like something more decorative than a typical synthetic broom for the kitchen. Our broom storage area is in the garage (right off the kitchen) but it never seems to make it back there so it's always leaning on a wall in the kitchen. I wouldn't mind if it looked like Willa's or one of those from that gallery!

I think this guy ships, but I'm not sure. He does some with the colored corn straw, like Willa's, and he uses a lot of just branches for handles. I love his stuff. I should get a photo of the rooster tail broom I got from him and post here. It's not real fancy, but I fell in love with it and had to have it. It was less $$ than I expected it to be.

Glad you enjoyed it, Queeny. I simply adore my town, and the region. There is so much in the way of the arts here. Music, painting, artisan type things (stained glass, beading, etc), quilting, it never ceases to amaze me.

We have another gallery here that also has a cafe. I've not yet been, but I just pulled up their page and...I'll be going in the very near future!

I wish there was a photo of this place. It's housed in a 125 yr old farm house that is very colorful. When I go, I'll try to remember to get a photo of the house and some of the interior, if they'll allow.

I love this one...and I want more of his stuff. He even does the cake testers...they are pieces of straw that he binds like a broom...but in a circle and with no handle. You break one off as needed. Very cool idea.
