Re: Study Group: Altars

Just wanted to say, I really enjoyed reading this thread. I have a small shrine with the four elements represented on it in what my husband and I have dubbed 'the nature room'.

I did sort of think of it as an alter, but this thread got me to thinking. I don't really do spells there, I just sort of pause and reflect there from time to time. So I guess by that definition it's really more of a shrine. It consists mostly of found objects, many of which I've had since childhood. Also an oil burner in the shape of a pentagram. Perhaps I will take a picture tomorrow when the light is good in the room. It's a happy place, always puts me in a good mood to look at it. emoticon

Interesting you say this. All of my elemental shrines (I have or have had 4 separate ones for each element) also consist of found objects or things I've had for a long time. I've never purchased anything specifically for a shrine. But until I read your statement, I don't think I ever would have used that as part of the description of the shrine, it was more a subconscious choice. Interesting to ponder!

A great deal that goes onto my working altar is found [sign in to see URL] acorn from the propery, a rock that I found fascinating, a feather, a [sign in to see URL] were handmade and given to [sign in to see URL] pentagram was hand carved, burned and stained by my daughter's g/[sign in to see URL]'s carved into a round piece of wood (like a small plaque)

Right now, I don't have anything exactly set [sign in to see URL] house is still kind of in a shambles from the kitchen remodel, and from needing floor space in the den to house a chair till I can get it out of the house. I need to get the top of my Witch's cabinet put back together! That served as a 'shrine' of sorts for [sign in to see URL] working altar is usually some place I set up near the floor/ground, on a low table so I can sit on the ground and absorb energy as I work.
