Re: February Chat Thread

Just wanted to share with you all the posts I posted on the contest thread:

This was posted yesterday (wee hours of Sat. morning)
Congratulations to all the boards who made it into the competition...

TexasMadness....thank you for the new board design and all you've done to help revamp the board....it ROCKS!!

Firlefanz....thank you for also helping with the revamping of the board. The Pagan Porch is very lucky to have such techno savvy ladies as part of the Admin team!!

And a big thank you to the few members we do have for encouraging votes for the board....we couldn't have done it without you!!!

YOU ALL ROCK!!!!!

Thanks so much to everyone who voted, and to the Runboard staff for all the things you do to keep us encouraged!!!
and YAY!!! so far!!!!

(I do realize we've not yet won...but wanted to let people know how much I appreciate the efforts they have put forth, not only to make our board better and more appealing, but for voting for the board. I wish continued good luck to all competitors!!!)

Erika's reply:

That was soo nice to read. Thankyou.

and my response to her reply:
Erika...none of us can get too far in much of anything without the efforts of others....and so many people don't get the praise they so richly deserve. I'm very fortunate to have people like the ones I mentioned in the above post in my life, and just wanted them to know.....as well as for others to know that I can't, don't and won't take credit for where our board is right now. It's through the efforts of others that we are where we are right now....and it's nice to see that, even though we are a strong board if you look at numbers, we're really not that strong...we're small...very small, in regular posters, but those who do post are very strong indeed, and it shows.....just goes to show that the numbers don't always count....but good people ALWAYS do!!!!

And, we wouldn't be much of anywhere without the encouragement of Runboard staffers, who give the owners/admins of all your boards, something to work toward with these competitions. It's nice to be recognized...even if you don't win, and it makes you want to work harder to make your board a good place to be so that a win may be in your future.

Even to the competition....without the good sportsmanship I see....other boards wishing luck for their competitors....it wouldn't be a nice as it is. Would be nice if we could all win, but since we can't (at least not at the same time) we have to settle for the good sportsmanship. I've never seen a losing board say anything negative about the winning board, or a winning board gloating.

So, to the people on my board, the Runboard Staff and..yes, even to our competitors.....
THANK YOU!!!!! Without all of you, we wouldn't push to make ourselves better!!

The reason I copied those here....I wanted you all to know just how much I appreciate everything you do for the board. I wish I were more tech savvy so that I could do more in the way of helping with banners, colors, etc. Since I'm not, I'm very happy that y'all are and I love the new direction we're going in. It looks like we're getting back to the original way this board was...with some excellent additions.

Saijen, that was a wonderful thing to do! Yes, we wouldn't get anywhere with all the wonderful hands helping out. Thank you for expressing it so well.

 emoticon

Yes, vote #14 came from one of my chat friends ... I've been scrounging for votes there. He also posts at my board - QS2.

I had a great day yesterday: Went to the farmers' market and met two friends there. We did some shopping (I discovered a great new fish stand, lots of fun and great, local produce), and then went to a bacery for a mug of hot chocolate. We sat and chatted for more than an hour! Great fun.

Got home, put away my groceries and then went for a nap. I just LOVE naps in the afternoon, they make a day perfect. Played some games in the evening, and read up on the health diet website. Fascinating stuff.

Hope you all have a great Sunday!

Re: February Chat Thread

Firle, your day yesterday sounds delightful. I wish I had friends close enough to go and do things like that with. There's no real good farmer's markets here...they are all small deals usually set up in a parking lot somewhere, so, finding a neat market like what you're talking about, is unheard of around here. If I were in New Orleans, I could go down to the French Market (that's basically a farmer's market...market for fresh seafood, etc.). It's just off the French Quarter (another place I adore)

I try not to take afternoon naps, because then I don't want to sleep later....and I have enough trouble with that as it is LOL.

Didn't do much yesterday, however, BUT sleep. I started work on one of the back covers for our new chairs, but only got like 1 and a half rows done.....I got so sleepy it was like someone put a triple dose of sleeping pills in me or something, and I'd not taken anything other than my usual meds.....no pain meds tho. Not sure what the deal was.
Today...pretty much the same as yesterday...not done much of anything!
DH went and got us a fried catfish filet dinner around 3:30, for a late lunch, and also picked us each up a salad for a bit later....I just finished my salad. Good eatin!!!!

Tomorrow.....gotta try to go find DH something for his birthday. Seriously thinking about getting him a Kindle. His birthday is Tuesday....and I think he wants to go try a new steak-house place for his birthday dinner. Will see how that all goes. I already have him 2 new hatbands for the cowboy hat I got for him at Christmas..he doesn't know about the hatbands.

Other than this...not a lot else going on.

Re: February Chat Thread

Howdy folks, haven't stopped by in a while. I was sick on Thursday - something a coworker brought in and two of us fell "victim". The first guy developed pneumonia from the cold so I've been VERY careful with this and have been taking it easy. Good time to catch up on movies and snuggle on the couch. So I didn't get all my Imbolc activities done - but I really only have the knife left, so I will finish that next weekend.

So glad we are up front for BOTM! I know we have one more vote coming in (my lurker husband who will read here but STILL isn't posting...the twerp...yes, I'm talking about you dear).

Queeny, good luck on the recovery. All sounds like it's progressing properly and I hope you will be amazed at the outcome!

Firle, so glad you found a neat farmers market! It's so nice to have something like that.

Saijen, I actually did a blog post about New Orleans farmers markets last year. The French Market is not the same - it's almost entirely tourist junk from China now (there are still some food stalls but it's also all imported I think). But there are several new markets which are just great.

http://sandhollerfarm.com/2011/05/new-orleans/

Today, I'm still taking it easy. I'm back at work (which might be more relaxing than being at home with Willa! emoticon ). I have a midwife appt AND a chiro appt today so I may call it quits early. I'm feeling better but still congested and don't want to risk anything!

Warning....rather long ranting boring post ahead....

Image
AS FOR ME...
Well, my weekend did not turn out like planned. Saturday we and the kids cleaned out the Storage room. I do not believe we will be back down here again, unless it's an emergency and PLEASE....NO MORE OF THOSE!
But my back held up pretty good, (when I over do it, my legs feel heavy and my sciatica acts up. Guess that is my clue to ease up and lay down!) even though we had to carry a ton of the kids crap to their apartment, up those stairs....OH AND BTW....those 20 hours I spent cleaning last weekend...you could not even tell I was there! I WAS PISSED!
But, kept my mouth shut....and after we were all done. We took the kids out for pizza and then hubby and me went shopping for all the SUPER NACHO stuff....even bought the kids some new dishcloths and some things they needed.(We were supposed to go over to their place about 2pm Sunday and watch the game with them.) But Sunday after I'd made up this huge batch, I get a text from my son....

"Would you mind not coming over today. We need to catch up on our rest for next week, school and 2 doctor appointments." SAY WHAT?!?!! grrrrrrrrrrrr
OKAY......then I went off! Said...."you could not have told me that BEFORE we bought all the EXTRA stuff."
He texted back...."OH...sorry, well you can come over if you want...,its okay."
I said....."NO"...."your head seems better, and I'm being pushed out of your life. If you don't care or appreciate all we've done for you, then you are on your own. You DO have to come over "ALONE" this week, and talk to your DAD....PERIOD. If all goes well with OUR doctor appointments, we are leaving on Saturday."

And boy does DAD have some things to talk to him about. MY husband has never been the discipline person, being in the Navy and gone, it was up to me to do that.....but this has pushed him to far for the first time in 22 years. They were living in FILTH...things growing...literally! And he failed every class last semester. SO they do have a few things to chat about and she is not welcomed here to listen. Because she jumps into the conversation and defends Chris against his DAD....just talking....we've never even spanked the kid....but she feels the need to go up against his Father....well, not when Dad is paying the freaking bills for college, and living expenses.

Needless to say, as MOM it breaks my heart, I just hope his head is healed up (he has two doc visits...one Wed. with the infectious disease doc)...because he will need it to be healed to live there.
I'm afraid I have to wash my hands, and let them grow up, making their own mistakes....(just worried about his head is all!)....but my parents are my concern now. SO if our doc appointments go well...we leave for Arizona on Saturday. And when it warms up we will start heading to Idaho....probably never to come back down here. Not even sure if we can travel any more.....depends on Mom and Dad and they were very frail last Summer and have had setbacks this Winter...SO may be living and freezing our arses off in IDAHO in our rig for as long as Mom and Dad need us.
Sorry....what a bitchy gripe. Just had to get it off my chest....but that was my weekend!
Happy that the Giants won though and Supernatural was AWESOME!!!
Doing laundry today....what else is new!! emoticon

SAIJEN.... beautiful writeup you did.. emoticon

TM... you rest and get to feeling better! emoticon

FIRLE... so glad you found a great farmers market. I love those... emoticon

Saijen, take it easy. Your body tells you exactly when you need a rest, so I'm glad you seem to listen, most times. Best of luck in finding the perfect present!

TM: So sorry you caught that cold. I now know how bad these things can get, and I believe you did exactly the right thing: Taking it easy and staying warm.

That's a very nice post about the markets in New Orleans. Too bad the main French Market has degraded like that.

The Farmers' Market I go to is a very old one, I have no idea for how long it has been established, but I'm guessing several decades. It happens every Wednesday and Saturday. There are three major "markets" as we simply call them, in three different locations in town. I go to the one nearest me, and the other two happen on other days in the week, so vendors can go to any of them. There are pleny of smaller markets in the little places surrounding town - they are very traditional here.

Hope you're all getting better! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good Tuesday gang....as for me today..

Still doing laundry! (Quit smirking...*glares*)
Hubby and son are "supposed" to have their talk tonight after son gets out of class, 4 ish sometime. We shall see what happens.
Hardest part will be for me to keep my mouth shut and let Dad do his thing....besides, honestly...I'm talked out. I've already told him about the filth, even that it may have been part of his infection problem.....also that if she is NOT cleaning up what can only be described as 'garbage', then she may have the same problem as her Mother.....who is a definite "Hoarder".....admitted even by Cali herself when she described her Mother to me.
So, Chris knows I'm disappointed in him, as I taught him how to clean and keep things neat.
But....it's Dad's turn. Health, growing up and especially GRADES! Think Dad has had enough of funding his failures.

Anywho....showered, listening to my music, trying to keep my stress levels down. Tomorrow morning I have what I HOPE to be my last appointment with my new doc...just to get prescriptions to take traveling. Then in Thursday, Hubby has his.
But I'll be around off and on today!

Re: February Chat Thread

Texas, loved the write-up about the markets. It's a shame about the French Market, though. That was one of my favorite places to go when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. I could get 6 HUGE pears (I craved pears with her) for $1. I was at the market at least twice a week, if I was able to get down there. Lotta walking and trolly riding to get there from where I was living at the time.

I'm sorry you've been sick! It seems to be hitting everyone. Fenyx is just now, finally, getting over the coughing phase of the bug she caught. Apparently, same strain my Mom had. It's lasted about 6-8 weeks, and even though the fever goes away, and you don't feel 'as bad'..the coughing will wear you out (as I'm sure Firle understands). Glad you're taking the precautions you are!!

Firle, I wish we had more of the European flare for markets up here. It's just not something you see regularly. There IS a produce place in town...the stuff there is locally grown but it's the only place like that around here that I know of.

Queeny, I'm sorry that the kid's apartment got trashed again, after all the time you spent cleaning. I know, all too well, how that feels. Had that same issue with my middle daughter at one point in time. It was so bad that DCS gave her one week to get it cleaned up, or they were taking her kids!! It took me, my youngest daughter, her then husband and 'the offender' almost that entire week to get the apartment/townhouse cleaned. After the second inspection and things settled down, it went right back to how it was before. I pitched a royal fit and laid into her. SOME of it wasn't her fault...that I didn't fuss at her about. Her a/c unit froze up, and a portion of it was in the downstairs bathroom....it leaked and when she called the landlord, it took him 2 weeks to get someone there, even though she told him the carpet was soaked to the point it was like a sponge in a bathtub. The carpet molded...and stuff started to grow. It took her calling him and threatening him to finally get someone out there...BUT...the dirty dishes, animal feces dried into the carpet upstairs...I was disgusted. So...know where you're coming from. I hope he keeps his "appointment" with his Dad tonight!

Yesterday was a go, go, go day! I had intended to go to Best Buy to get DH a Kindle, but he reminded me I had to take my SIL to the eye doctor (her appt was at 2...he reminded me at noon!)...let me back up a little....
I got into the shower around 11am (yesterday). The utility room, where the back door is, is on the other side of the wall from the end of the tub. I heard the back door open, close and heard someone walking through the house. Sounded like my DH, so I paid no attention. Kept hearing movement in various rooms...heavy footsteps. Get out of the shower, dry off, and open the door and I hear what sounds like something bangning into the washing machine, so, I grab my robe and head to the utility room. No one in the house...cat is sound asleep in a box 2 rooms away. Back door is closed and locked and DH's truck is not to be seen. SO...I call to ask where he is, just in case he'd parked behind the smokehouse and I couldn't see the truck..he may have been in the basement. Nope...he was in Knoxville!!! (must have had a 'visitor')..anyway, while talking, he reminded me about my SIL. I call her to see if we're still supposed to go..we are, so I hurry and get ready. Pick her up and have to go to the town in the opposite direction of where I wanted to go...BUT...she had a sales paper from the town we had to go for Office Max, and they have Kindles. Do the eye dr, then go get something to eat. Head to Office Max and buy the Kindle with the USB convertible cable (converts to AC power cable). Then to Walmart, Lowe's then home.
DH worked from home today, so when I got up, I gave him his birthday goodies....all of which he really liked....and we tried to get the Kindle set up. NOTHING! Even using my MiFi HotSpot didn't work...we're both getting really aggravated at this point. I call Verizon Tech to see what's wrong with the MiFi...it's fine. Call Office Max to find out what's wrong with the Kindle....well....nothing was wrong with any of it!! No one told me that for the MiFi to be used as a HotSpot, it CANNOT be plugged into the computer!!! DUH. It just has to be turned on. I was surprised that the tech person from Verizon didn't catch that. I TOLD them, repeatedly that it was plugged in to the computer. It took a nerdy lil guy from Office Max to figure out what the problem was. I had NO idea that I didn't have to have that thing plugged into my computer for it to work! So...we finally got the Kindle going...DH and I BOTH are online (gotta watch my usage now!) Talk about feeling stupid..... emoticon After the guy at Office Max "fixed" my problem...in less than 2 minutes, I asked to speak to his manager to give the electronics dude (he wasn't even a tech person!) an Atta-Boy. We were so thrilled to finally get the Kindle going! So...most of my day has been spent trying to get that up and running. Guess the laundry will have to wait till tomorrow!!! We'll be leaving here in a bit to go out to eat in celebration of DH's birthday. Had a really good day yesterday. Was fun, and just enjoyed spending time with my SIL.

Re: February Chat Thread

I'm breezing through - don't have the time to read everyone else's updates right now but will do soon.

Why don't I have time? I can only sit up for a few minutes at a time right now. Sigh. I'm getting over the cold quite well. I was getting ready to even walk to work this morning when my left leg started aching. Didn't really think too much about it until my knee buckled and I nearly fell. I was a little freaked but thought maybe I had slipped. But then I couldn't put any weight on the leg at all and my foot was numb. Burning all up and down the back of the leg, tingling, some numbness and severe weakness. I was in the garage getting clothes out of the washing machine and was worrying about how I was going to get up the 2 steps and across the house to the couch by myself. Fortunately, hubby walked in right then 9from dropping Willa off at school - thank goodness this was a school day for her!). I was in tears (some from being scared and some from the pain) and he is horrible in an emergency, so I got way too worked up trying to tell him what happened, what was going on and what I needed him to do.

Anyway, the whole morning was spent on the phone with the midwife (NO HELP!), the chiropractor (only slightly helpful) and a myriad of other places that might help (spine doctors, acupuncturist, physical therapist, etc). I was in horrible pain no matter what position I was in (standing, sitting, laying down, whatever). Finally, around midday, I managed to find a comfortable-ish position and I was able to relax. The pressure on the nerve must have been relieved then - either from the less painful position or the fact that I wasn't freaking out so bad - and I was able to move without crying for the rest of the day.

Blah. It's come and gone all day but never like this morning again. I still don't know how to approach treatment on this. My cousin is coming to do some EFT and cranio-sacral massage for me. I'm going to the acupuncturist and the physical therapist. I'm not sure about the orthopedic spine doctor. I don't feel like this is quite the emergency I did this morning so I'm not sure. Everyone said start with the PT but "everyone" also said the chiropractor would fix everything in short order. So I want to be aggressive about this but not overboard.

Gee guys. When I decided to join The Bad Back Club, I apparently took a serious leap right into the middle of the mess. Can I have my non-pregnant spine back yet? emoticon

Signing off. Hopefully will be back on again tomorrow. Will have to see if I can manage though!

Re: February Chat Thread

HI DI HO GANG!

I know...running late, but I had my doc appointment this morning. She was running about 45 minutes late. Actually that is par for the course down here. Need to go in with Hubby tomorrow morning and get a fasting blood workup done, she wants to make sure the cholesterol drug is doing it's job. Other than that...I'm good to go! Got the all clear from everyone.
AS for me.... Done with doc...just doing up the bedding and cats blankets. And will be waiting for son to get back from Infectious Disease Doc and hopefully his class transcripts, for our TALK (which did not happen last night because of missing transcripts!) But I'll be around today.

TM...Oh HONEY!! That must have been very scary! I hope it was just pressure on the nerve and not a slipped disc. I've had back problems since I was 17 (53 now)...and the only time it DID NOT hurt was when I was pregnant....moved my spine just enough to take the pressure off the nerve! emoticon
I hope it was also not sciatica....man, that dropped me to my knees and I crawled to my husband, hurt worse than any back pain I ever had! emoticon

Saijen...OMG! You were freaking busy! *faints*.....And yeah....Dad and son have still not talked! School is having trouble getting transcripts...because it's Spring graduation time and all those kids need theirs first........ emoticon
But they will have a talk one way or another! emoticon
