Re: February Chat Thread

Oh mercy, Texas!!!! I can imagine (a bit too well) what you're going through, and I am SOO sorry!!!! I sincerely hope that someone can help you get some relief. I know you must have been scared spitless!! PLEASE do be careful. The spine is such a fragile part of our bodies and we tend to take it for granted. Rest as much as you need....we are not going anywhere!!

It's been a few years since I've been that bad, but it landed me on bed rest for 9 weeks! I had to use a walker to go 4 steps from the bed to my bathroom, and we even considered doing a bedside toilet at one point. Putty any weight on my legs was excruciating. Not something I care to deal with again if possible!!

Queeny...excellent on the clean bill of health!! I'm really happy to hear that.
Sorry that Chris stood his dad up! I was afraid he'd do that. He knows what's coming, I'm sure. Kids!!!!!! emoticon You love em, but there are times you wanna strangle em!

Today was somewhat quiet. Got the rest of my laundry caught up. 2 loads. Spent a chunk of the morning doing a mock work-up of a work schedule for one of DH's buildings for him. Took some doing to figure out how to get each person in the building 2 days off in a row each week. It'll end up having to be on a roll-over schedule, which means that they won't have the same 2 days off every week. One week, employee A will have off like Mon. and Tues. Second week, they'll have off Tues. and Wed. Third week, they'll have off Wed. and Thurs.....etc. I worked up a full month. It's not ideal, but it's the only thing that will work.

Some of the day, I worked a dab on the cover for the back of one of the chairs. DH and I watched the shows we recorded from Tues. night while we were out eating, and I got some dusting done.

Tomorrow, I plan on going to buy another Kindle. I've decided I want one....but since the one I got for DH is set up on my Amazon account, I'll take the one he has, and give him the one I buy tomorrow. I got him his own Amazon account set up, and got him set up with a gmail account, since the only e-mail account he has is his work account and he can't use it for purchases and such. This way, we can both get a ton of books to enjoy...and will maybe be a way for me to save on some of the book group books, assuming I can find the Kindle versions of the ones we'll be reading. I'll buy hard copies of those that don't have a Kindle version...but when possible, I can do it this way and at least save room, if not money. DH is having a good time using his, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it as well.

Not much else going on around here.

Just swinging through quickly again. I'm 90% over the cold, just a teeny bit of congestion left. I feel perfectly fine though...

...and...my back is FINE! emoticon I'm a little freaked out about how good it feels. I've had none of the constant back pain I've had for the past month. I do still get "catches" when I bend the wrong way or do something stupid (swing the kiddo on to my hip too fast, etc). My back muscles and butt are sore. I wonder if I had a muscle spasm or something and it finally let go and that was the nerve getting rearranged and now things are going to be better? Fingers crossed! I've got an appt this afternoon. We'll see what they say.

I'm going to try to catch up with the forum as much as possible but I've neglected work quite a bit this week (and missed Friday last week), so I've got a lot to do there. But I have a few minutes and will get through what I can here!

TM, don't worry too much about catching up right NOW! emoticon

I'm so glad to hear that your back is feeling great! I hope it's exactly what you think, that something went back into a good position, but not without a fight.

Saijen, having a kindle is becoming quite interesting to me, as well. I could get books instantly! And it would save on shelf space, too. So eventually, I'll probably get one.

And the schedule you worked out sounds very tricky. Hope it all works out and it was worth the effort. And take care!

As for me, I'm working on getting my strength back. Making progress! I've also started translating one of my novels from German into English and posting it on my board - sheesh, talk about feedback! I'll have to completely rewrite that little intro.

Good Thursday my friends! Happy Feb.9th..

Well, hubby's doc appointment went well (other than, as is normal, they are late!) and my fasting blood work went well.
Tonight, after supper we need to run to pick up some groceries and a new prescription for hubby, but we are good to go this Saturday.

Son came over yesterday after his appointment with Infectious Disease Doc visit. Which was good. Still a lot of healing needed to be done. But the body is taking care of that fine now. He's still not supposed to use his right arm for heavy lifting because that is the neck muscle they cut through and those muscle fibers will take a long time to 'knit' back. Other than that, he goes back to his original "GOOD" Neurologist here in Las Cruces and may start the long road to getting rid of the neuro-supressants.

WE had the "TALK" with the kid last night. Without the transcripts, because the office has to get all the soon to be graduating SPRING seniors transcripts ready, to make sure they all have all the classes they need to graduate. But we talked about the importance of school and how basically it is now "Son's JOB." I think he "GOT IT" because he said. That when his head first started and he was only on 2 neuros a day, he carried a 3.8 to 4.0 average GPA for college. It was only after he got so bad, (this last semester) he was prescribed 4 neuros and 2 Vicodin a day, that he failed all his classes. He knows and said he can think again already, because the pain is mostly gone, so he's off the Vicodin already.
Then about the "cleaning" and his girl....Well, he understands about why it's so important to keep things sanitary. It does not have to be neat and tidy....they are college kids after all! But filth is bad and he gets it now, and gets that he may have to push or just do and show girlfriend what needs done. I gave him some especially big pointers....hopefully it stuck in his head.

Nothing more to do now. We actually all ended on a good note and even had him go pick Cali up and treated them out to Olive Garden for dinner. Might be the last time I get to see my son........maybe for his graduation from college. If all is well up North. Of course when it was over.....like any MOM, I cried...saying goodbye was hard. Hugged them both and came home and watched Burlesque...to take my mind off everything!

But....I'm good now. Just got to catch up, washing rugs and stuff, getting prescriptions and groceries tonight, getting ready to pull out Saturday!
I'll be around a little today, trying to catch up here, there and everywhere too. emoticon

TM... you may have a slightly bulging disc. Hubby has one. Sometimes it really gets pinched between the vertebrae and he can barely move. Other times he's fine or just get a 'twinge' when bending the wrong way....try not to do anything that requires you to life and twist at the same time. And you might want to have that looked at. If caught early, it's an easy fix. If you wait to long, scar tissue forms and it's a major surgery.

Saijen....
Nice busy day! Slow my behind.... emoticon
Have fun getting another Kindle.... emoticon

FIRLE...
Glad you are getting stronger by the day...and good luck with that translating... emoticon

Re: February Chat Thread

Whew, finally caught up with all your updates. Man, you guys are busy!

Saijen, I have a Sony Reader - the kind before they could connect to the internet (I bought it maybe 5 years ago). It's great and I LOVE to read novels on there. I don't like it for books I want to flip through later, I find the interface more clumsy than flipping through a paper book. I hope you enjoy it, they are great little devices!

Queeny, good job on the talk with Chris. I do hope he listens about the filth. One of my coworkers lives with friends that are basically his family (they are all in their 60s) and they are pretty close to true hoarders. His room is the only clean space in the house and he thinks their failing health is has to be exacerbated by the filth. It's no fun to be 60 and still living like that. Hopefully those two will snap out of it!

Firle, sounds like a fun project with the translation...even if it means rewriting some of it! emoticon

As for me, my congestion is just barely there. I think I kicked this thing and won't have any lasting issues. No coughing either. Whew.

My back is still doing great. My chiropractor stared at me wide eyed as I explained what happened. She said she was shocked I was still walking! She has always said my pelvis and lower vertebrae practically slip around like they aren't attached to anything. She thinks something just slipped and then slipped back. I can only hope so! When she does an adjustment, instead of these big violent "blows" like she usually does, she can push on my pelvis with one finger and I can feel it slipping around. It's weird! That's what the hormone 'relaxin' does - gets you all lose for the birth process. Too bad it's screwing up my back in the process!

I'm still treating my back gingerly (like you said Queeny - no lifting and twisting!), but I'm actually back to a more regular routine. The past month, I'd been going to work, coming home and sitting on the couch. Now I actually can do housework (as long as I leave the things on the floor for hubby to pick up) and I cooked several meals over the last few days. I couldn't stand for that long before!
I'm also clearly in a better mood than I have been in for weeks. I hadn't realized how sedated/depressed I had been. Pain is not a fun thing to deal with.

GOOD FRIDAY MY FRIENDS! AS FOR ME TODAY..
Alread got my shower, and cleaned the cat box. This afternoon we need to run and pick up several dozen Tamales (red and green) and several dozen Burritos..(red, green and bean) cause my parents loved them last year. We buy a couple dozen of each and freeze them.
But....I should be around off and on most of the day!

TM... WOW...already getting relaxed. Going to be an easy birth as long as the back don't go out! emoticon
But definitely keep it EASY!
And trust me hon....I've dealt with back pain since the age of 17....NOT FUN in any sense of the word...

YOU ALL TAKE CARE...I may not see you again until MONDAY. So have a great weekend and my next post should be from Casa Grande, Arizona... emoticon

Re: February Chat Thread

Hey all...sorry for no posts yesterday...was playin with my Kindle...LOL.

Woke up and piddled around the house some yesterday, then got some housework done. DH worked from home yesterday. About the time I was going to get ready to head into town, my youngest calls, so ended up spending about an hour on the phone with her. Finally got ready to go to the store. Got my Kindle, then a few grocery items. Got home, put stuff away, got supper fixed (we got one of those frozen meals in a bag..the Viola...man, it was good!), after supper, I had to see if I would rework my Amazon account and turn it into DH's, then create a new one for myself. I managed to get that done, then got my Kindle registered and looked through all the books. Downloaded 2 and a sample. I finished one book today. I'll post it in the library...it's one I'll definitely read again! I'm hoping this author's other books are this good....I had a hard time putting this down! I've not started the other one yet..maybe tomorrow.

Today, we got tired of having the homecanned stuff from my little shelf cluttering up the counter where it's been ever since the start of the kitchen remodel...so we are taking a chance and putting it back on the shelf, without the shelf being secured to the wall. Just hope it doesn't fall over!!! But, it gave me back a HUGE amount of my counter space and my kitchen looks bigger now!! Funny how things like that can make such a difference!
That's about all that's gotten done today. I did actually cook (more or less) 3 meals today. Waffles for breakfast, ramen noodles for a late lunch and meatballs in a really good sauce (will post recipe in the Kitchen....photo may follow later) with a side dish of mixed veggies in an herb infused olive oil sauce (a steamer bag thing), that sounds better than it tasted. They were good, just not something I'll do frequently.
Got supper dishes all washed up....watched some TV and now, here I am.

Firle, I can already tell that the Kindles will be a wonderful addition to our home. As much as we both enjoy a good book, we've stopped buying as many because we simply didn't have the room to put very many more. I even told DH that he may be able to download some of his favorite books that he has the hard copy of (and is falling apart) and get rid of the hard copy..to maybe make room for some other things. If I can find some of my favorite books for Kindle, I may do the same thing....then I will be able to take them with me anywhere I want to take books (camping, my trip to Texas in June, trips to Alabama..etc). I think you'd really enjoy a Kindle or a Nook.

I won't know for a bit if the work schedule I worked on will work or not. DH isn't at a place where he can impliment it yet..and he may have to change it around a bit, but at least he has a template to follow now. I keep telling him he's going to have to start paying me a salary....LOL

Texas, we are truly enjoying our Kindles, and I didn't have to give him the newer one..I just had to swap accounts with him.
If the one you have doesn't connect to the internet, how to you get books on it? Have to go to the site to download them while it's plugged in, or what?

I'm so glad that your back has decided to behave itself. I sure hope it continues to do so! Back pain can sure do a number on a person..and not just physically! I know I could tell you some stories, and I'm sure Queeny could too! Just do be careful....if it can slip back into place, it can slip out again just as easily.

Queeny, great that the talk with Chris went well. I hope he and Cali really do heed the cleaning advice...it's one thing to be messy...quite another to be filthy.
I think one of my SILs is a borderline hoarder. There are things she has no problem parting with....other things, you wonder why on earth she keeps them. I bought her a cinnamon lollipop one time (about 7 years ago)...she still has the dang thing "because it reminds me of that day we spent together" One of her kids got her a chocolate rose one year for Valentine's Day (that was almost 13 yrs ago)...it's still in her deep freezer! Her hoarding is mostly photos. I've never seen someone who cherishes pictures like this woman does. At least she's a clean freak, so don't have to worry about filth in her house!

I do hope y'all have a safe journy to Casa Grande tomorrow! Will look forward to hearing you made it safe and sound!!!!

Ok....off to the library and the kitchen emoticon

See you soon Queeny! emoticon

Saijen, yes you just plug the Reader into the computer and use the computer to connect to the internet, get the book and then transfer to the Reader. The new readers do have internet connection but mine works perfectly fine and I can't see spending the money just to upgrade for that one feature! Actually, there are a lot of new features (I have the very first edition of an electronic book sold on the market) but nothing that is causing me to spend the money. I LOVE it for trips. I used to have to carry 3 or 4 books but now just the Reader!

I'm looking forward to the weekend. I usually don't have much time online but Willa stayed up late last night so is sleeping in. I love it when I wake up before her! I stay up later, but I'm always tired so I don't get that much done, but when I get up in the morning before her, I get to straighten up the whole house and then if I have time, sit with a hot cup of tea and do whatever I want. Ahhhh....

We hope to make some more "incremental progress" on the house. Just a few little chores here and there. We are missing the big fencing operation out at the farm but it's today and today is the only day we have to work on our house. Tomorrow, hubby has a work project and will be gone all day. It's hard making the decision to focus on the house, but it needs to be done!

I may not be on until Monday if we do keep busy today and I have Willa all day tomorrow. But will check in if I can!

OH! And there's a chance of snow tomorrow! emoticon This is TEXAS!!! I had actually thought about putting out all my seedlings early since it never seemed like it would be cold again. I'm so glad I held off - they are still in the trays and can be brought inside. Willa and I will cuddle by the fire tomorrow!

Re: February Chat Thread

Sounds like the reader you have works just as well as anything more current, so don't blame you for not upgrading. Why fix it if it ain't broke!
We are both thoroughly enjoying our Kindles, and yes, I can sure see the ease of taking them on trips, or camping with us! We always both had at least a Walmart bag each, full of books when we go camping. This way, we'll have our whole library with us, plus, I usually take the computer just in case....so if we wanted, can still get new books if we wanted something different. I need to look into it more...but I think we can also 'borrow' books but not sure if we need a Prime account to do that, or not. Those cost money. If not, that will be something we can do, too...and if we like a book well enough, can purchase it to reread at a later time.

We have been getting snow off and on since last night, but the ground is so warm it's not staying around very long. Our high today was 32, and it reached that at about 11 this morning, and it's steadily dropping. Last time I looked...about an hour ago, it was 30. The winds are howling like a freight train blowing past, and tonight's low is to be around 12, with windchill between -5 and +5 degrees! BRRRRR!!!!!!
We've had bursts of sunshine off and on all day....between snow showers, so it's not been totally gloomy today. We've stayed in...reading mostly, but I'm extremely restless today, so I've also been pacing the house.
I didn't get into bed till almost 5am this morning, thanks to this weather front causing issues with my right leg. Managed to sleep till close to 10, but my leg woke me up, and no matter how hard I tried to go back to sleep, it wouldn't let up, so I finally got up about 10:30. Maybe I can get in bed earlier tonight and try to play catch-up with my sleep!

Not done anything else worth talking about.
