Re: February Chat Thread
Good Friday my Friends!
My day consists of.... not much! LMAO Leftover Spaghetti for dinner, so that is taken care of. Trying to find out what we want to do this weekend. There is a giant RV show and sales event in Peoria,Az (1 1/2 hours away), there is this HUGE (2,400 horse) Arabian horse show in Scottsdale, AZ (1 hour away)..but really only one show late evening.
And hubby wants to check out Cabela's outdoor store in Glendale, AZ (1 hour)....he's looking for those small fishing poles, that break down and fit into a small (less than a foot) round container...
And of course 3 hours away...is Sedona. It's calling me! So....we'll just see what happens. Not sure my back/sciatica could take the walking and then sitting in bleacher seats at the Arabian horse show....but we shall see what we feel like in the morning!
Last night we had ONE AWESOME lightening storm...absolutely no damage anywhere, just one heck of a light show, and then it rained HARD for about 30 minutes....then this morning just before the sun came up, a pack of Coyotes were 'yipping' in the hills behind the Campground...it's all wilderness there and they were hunting....SOUNDED so cool!
TM... I'll bet it would be hard to not want to go out and play...who could resist! You are a stronger woman than I!
FIRLE... So glad you are feeling better!
My goodness....well, I shall meditate on your behalf, that which ever way the Universe turns....it's the right way for you!
I probably will not be back online till MONDAy...so YOU ALL have a fantastic weekend!

Re: February Chat Thread
Firle, I am SO happy that you're feeling so much better!
Whatever happens with the job, it will be where you're supposed to be.....whether it's with your current job, or the new one. In the meantime, you may want to create some kind of chant (it will work like a spell) that you can do in your head, or under your breath to get your boss back off.
It can be something as simple as "My work is mine, not _______ (boss' name in the blank), allow me what is mine, and ______(boss's name) to leave me to it" I think you've been unhappy in this job for a while, though, so maybe a change is due. Whichever, I know you'll be good at it!!!
Texas, never heard of turnip hash browns....actually sounds good! So do the carrot muffins. I'd imagine they're almost like carrot cake (which I love).
Don't blame you for wanting to be outside rather than stuck indoors working. Know that feeling from what I had to work.
Queeny, it will be interesting to find out what y'all ended up doing over the weekend.
Here....DH and I went and paid the utility bill, picked up some papers from the bank, went to eat at our favorite Chinese buffet, then went to Big Creek Farms to pick up my cream for butter making tomorrow!
Once home, I got out of my good clothes and into my 'around the house' clothes, washed the churn really good...inside and out...sanded the dash a bit. It's new and never been used, so it needed to be sanded just a bit to be sure no splinters get into the butter. Washed it real good and have it sitting where it can dry. Now, just hope I can do this without making myself hurt. I took photos of the churn and the label on the cream today. The label says it's light milk, but all 4 quarts are pure cream. Could even see the cream line, which was toward the bottom of the jug. I'll get photos as I go...y'all keep your fingers crossed!!!!

Re: February Chat Thread
Well, true to my word.....I got the butter made today. You can read about it in the Homestead forum, but photos are in the Food and Health forum (where I should have started my thread to begin with! lol)
That's about all I've done today. 2 hours of churning....began about 1:13 and stopped at 3:10, then the real fun began. Pressing out the milk, rinsing the butter in cold water...repeating till I emptied the churn. kneaded the butter...added salt, kneaded it more....then finally put it into containers. It took about a total of 4-4.5 hours. DH washed up the bowls and such that I messed up for me, and took some of the photos since my hands were greasy with butter. Don't know why, but I never thought about how greasy real butter is...LOL. and man, is it GOOOOOD!!! I made a pan of cornbread a bit ago, and slathered some of the fresh butter on the hot cornbread...oh my goodness! I will be doing this again, but not until I'm almost down to the last of what I made today. And I'll go smaller....a gallon of cream....2 gallons was almost too much. I enjoyed myself today, but know I'll be a little sore tomorrow. The soreness will be worth it.
That's been my day today!!!

Re: February Chat Thread
Wooohoooo, Saijen! I'm so proud of you! I commented in your other threads, but I'll say it again: Hurrah for homemade butter!
I pulled some energy on Friday afternoon, and that must have been why I spent the better part of yesterday completely reorganizing my practice website, renaming classes, setting up a whole new set of classes I want to sell through an online service, and setting dates for classes all the way until June. I also raised the price for one set of class. On Monday, I'll call that service and see what happens. I won't be making much on those classes, but they will serve to increase word of mouth massively. I've been wanting to do that for weeks!
I felt rather exhausted when I had finally gotten everything right, but I actually did manage to cook a real meal (sweet potato-zucchini casserole with organic beef, tomato sauce and some cream/egg mix on top). That'll last me at least two more days! When that was done, I sat down to dinner and had a glass of wine in celebration.

Re: February Chat Thread
Oh, I didn't use a recipe for that casserole, I just threw it together on a whim. But I can post is as guidelines in the Food forum!
Today, on the other hand, I was lazy. Might just manage to do my stir fry tonight. I also wanted to get an application done, but ... that'll have to wait for tomorrow. I want to get it out next week, but there's still time.
I just had a great time playing an online game with a friend, after getting plenty of sleep this morning. That felt extremely good!
See you guys tomorrow!

Re: February Chat Thread
Sounds like some good organizing for your classes Firle!
Last night Willa was a bit of a beast, waking up every few hours, so I didn't sleep well. That usually means my back hurts in the morning - probably just because of tossing and turning. But hubby didn't want me moping on the couch all day so he dragged me out and we had a great time this morning!
We went to the food co-op and Willa is finally old enough to use the little kid shopping carts (she used to not follow us and would just run the thing into all the shelves of glass bottles!). It was the first shopping trip with her manning the little cart herself. It was super cute!
We then stopped by a coffee shop for bruscetta and hot chai while waiting for the cheese shop to open. That's where we watched the marathon (see the Photo Album!). Then once the cheese shop was open, we grabbed some cheddar, blue and smoked cheese as well as prosciutto. I haven't had prosciutto before and was surprised how much I liked it! We also got 'lardo' which is basically cured fat. It's way too rich for me but hubby loved it. Apparently you just slice it on hot toast and broil it. We'll see...
Not sure for the rest of the day. I'm on the couch with an ice pack. My back isn't any worse than it was this morning when we left, but I want to be careful. Probably just stick around home and cook a few things for the week to come.

Re: February Chat Thread
Good Monday Gang!
Sort of doing a quickie here. Hubby has one phone call with his boss right now. Not sure if he plans on working more or not, but figured that I'd stop in real fast and see what you all were up too!
OUR WEEKEND, so far has been fun. We made all three things on Saturday...the RV show first. Then Cabela's (where hubby did find the fishing pole in a case he was looking for...) and then towards evening, we made it to the Arabian horse show. UNFORTUNATELY....the show runs through the 26th, with the fabulous Original Native Costume show on that last day. So we only got to see some yearlings learning about halters.....they were judging them on how well they did and how they fit the criteria of an Arabian. Fabulous shopping there....clothes, jewelry, cowboy stuff and everything else you could think of. EXPENSIVE though....so we just looked!
Yesterday we cleaned, and then cleaned some more.
Like I said...today, not sure. If hubby decides to catch up on stuff from his overly busy last week, then we may not go any place...if not, I may suddenly disappear!
TM... I'm sorry that Willa has such a long night, as to give you a back ache. But happy that hubby ended up giving you both a great day!
FIRLE...
Wow you have been busy! Organizing is actually quite energy draining. You have to think and do.....not easy! But glad you have things done and still can take some time off.
SAIJEN....WOW! You did it! How do your arms feel today? And fresh butter is the best, but I buy mine at the Farmers market....we had Amish farmers there who would bring baked goods, fresh cream and butter...I know I could never with stand the rigors, nor do I have the room here!

Re: February Chat Thread
a super quick response here...
Queeny, my arms are actually doing really well. Not sore at all, but the long muscle on the side of my neck is giving me fits...think it's from something totally different, tho.
Texas, cute on Willa using the little shopping cart thing! She's growing up so fast!!!
Firle, thank you for posting the recipe...or at least the ingredients...lol. Good on the good sleep!
Not much here....legs giving me fits, was up till 5am, then up for the day today by 11....ended up dozing in my chair while trying to read, so put the book down and slept for a couple of hours.
DH went and got us some KFC for supper...for dessert I did one of the 321 cakes for each of us, but it was a 641 instead.....soo good.
Leg is still causing a LOT of problems...have already taken a pain pill..not helped.
Otherwise....nothing fun, nothing exciting...just the same ole, same ole.

Re: February Chat Thread
Good Tuesday my friends! Happy Feb. 21st...
Anywho, ended up going to Best Buy yesterday afternoon, as our IPod, that we use in the RV for music when we are driving, gave up the ghost. I'm surprised it lasted this long...it's one of the Original Ipod classics we got for the kid back in 06, I think...for Xmas. But he bought the Ipod touch when he was in college because the battery on this one would not stay charged after 2 years. But it was fine for us, as we plug it in and it runs through our stereo of the RV. But now it's skipping songs, suddenly going backwards, changing playlists...I think it's about dead. So hubby worked till about 3pm yesterday, then we went looking. Found this Ipod classic (which we like, cause I'm used to it)...at the 3rd store we looked at. Seems they are phasing them out. And of course the touch is way more expensive, and has less capacity. Typical...but we got the last one, so if this one last another 6 years, we'll be happy.
Then hubby took me out to an Italian dinner at Buca di Peppo....fabulous!!!
Then home, to catch our shows, so not much playing around yesterday.
Oh well, it was a good day none the less...
SAIJEN...
I hope your legs get to feeling better. Sounds to me like your body is becoming used to the pain pills...
I've had sinus migraines bad enough to wake me up the last 3 nights.....have no idea why. Maybe all the rain we had is causing something to bloom or.....it's not raining now so we have dust....OR we can smell fertilizer from the farm fields around us...
