Wildlife
first of all....I think we have a problem with our : cry : emoticon...it keeps blinking black....
Ok...now, on to the reason for the post. Wish I'd been able to get photos!
A day or so, DH was coming home from going to town, and counted about 85 turkeys in the pasture across the driveway from us. It's our pasture, just not up near the house.
Then, today I was sitting on the side of my bed putting lotion on my feet, and saw 3 deer in the other side pasture. Got up to tell DH, and by the time I got back to my bedroom window, it had gone from 3 to 12, then to 15!! They were coming from across the road in the woods where they bed down, and enjoying the good grazing in the pasture. We just watched them for a bit....they were running and jumping, kicking up their heels having a good time. Most were older does, with some younger does, then a couple of yearlings...couldn't tell if doe or buck. Was delightful to see them just enjoying the day, despite the fact that it was rainy and cloudy. I dearly love where we live!

Re: Wildlife
To me, the "cry" smilie seems to be fine. Sometimes, a website hosting them might have trouble - I shoved a lot of mine into my photobucket account because of that. Not that photobucket is always reliable, either!
Adn it's so cool you saw so many turkey and deer! They must know it's not hunting season!

Re: Wildlife
The cry smiley is still blinking here....Oh well.... I clicked on it to see if it still works.
we really do enjoy the wildlife here. One reason we'd hate to have to move from here. We live far enough out to have this, but close enough that we don't have to drive for more than 10-15 minutes to get to anywhere in town. Perfect set-up!!

Re: Wildlife
WOW! That's a lot of turkeys! I've seen big groups of deer like that but I bet I've never seen more than 15 or 20 turkeys at a time. I had no idea they ever gathered in such large parties. How cool to see all that!

Re: Wildlife
Well....first of all, I misquoted the amount of turkeys......it was closer to 58..not 85! LOL (dang fingers get to moving and my brain can't keep up!!) And no, I'm not dyslexic....
Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me to actually see 85 turkey around here in one group. Turkeys seem to be rather prolific here....almost more-so than rabbits! LOL.
It is nice, though, to have all this just coming up almost into the yard.
A year or so ago, we had 3 deer that discovered the garden...but on the side away from the house. And they seemed to know where the dogs were....if the dogs were in the haybarn, or under a truck/tractor asleep, the deer would come up and nibble from the garden. We had to put a stop to that when it became a problem....but they still will almost come into the front yard if everything outside is quiet. Rather neat!!
