Re: Do you use divination?
Terry, I live in a small town called Rogersville, in upper Northeast Tennessee. Very much a part of the Bible Belt. They don't tolerate much of anything out of their 'norm' here. Not very many here know I'm Pagan....Paganism is VERY much frowned upon
Oh Saijen...I think we need to all show up there, put an ad in the paper inviting ALL Pagans to come join in our Midsummer's night celebration......done our masks, drop all our clothes, light giant bon fires and dance the night away!
What do ya think? Might cause a bit of a ruckus...

Terry, I live in a small town called Rogersville, in upper Northeast Tennessee. Very much a part of the Bible Belt. They don't tolerate much of anything out of their 'norm' here. Not very many here know I'm Pagan....Paganism is VERY much frowned upon, as is homosexuality, which really burns my buttons...on both issues. I really wish people could just accept things and just either ask questions about what they don't understand, or get over themselves and realize that all people are entitled to what they believe, feel and how they live as long as no one is being hurt. Small towns in areas that aren't in the South, or in the Bible Belt are probably your best bet for a town that's accepting of things that most people don't understand. I love it here, but it's really hard to find friends who are like-minded here. Or, who can accept my oldest daughter and her girlfriend when they come to visit. (Yes, my oldest daughter is a lesbian, and I adore her girlfriend.)
You're more disciplined than I am. If I didn't like the direction the die was headed in, I'd just ignore it, and not even bother with meditating on it...LOL, but it sounds like you've had some pretty interesting adventures. I grew up Christian, and know that most Christians are hypocrits. Not all, but most. And the Bible has a LOT of good in it, but it is also contradictory in some areas, which confuses the heck out of me LOL. But, there is a lot of excellent guidelines in there!!
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who rambles, now! I love reading about your adventures!!!
Yeah, I used to get real ancy when it came to the die's instructions because I had this Plan for my life, from A to Z, I knew exactly who I was and what I wanted and then the die would come along and send me off in a wild direction and I was not going to have it and soon I realized that I only had to fulfill the die instructions for 30 days and if I didnt like the direction I was heading in, I could stop and head back the way I started and so I decided it would never really have that much control over me.
Don and I are thinking about heading back to my homestate Oregon-Maybe Hood River or Astoria because we have heard that both are Gay friendly and there are Unitarian Universalist churches in both places and I would be alright there, we love Kittanning PA but its a small conservative town, though gorgeous and definately our speed.
I will post on the next dice related adventure, I used to have a blog on Livejournal, Its still there, I just havent posted in ages, I would talk about the latest instruction and what it meant for my life, lately though there hasnt been any rumblings from the die and so I have just been doing my own thing, its too quiet, Im sure it will pop up soon with some wild suggestion!

Re: Do you use divination?
There is a city, a little more than an hour from where I live, that is very gay friendly. Johnson City (named for President Andrew Johnson.....an ancestor of mine). There is a large Uniterian Universalist church there. It's not a huge city, but large enough to handle a more diverse culture as far as sexuality and Paganism are both concerned. Knoxville, of course, is another place that is accepting, but that's a pretty good sized place. I don't care for Knoxville, but only because it's just too big for me. I grew up in a fairly large city, and have no desire to go back to that. Yes, more to do and see, but I'll take getting from one end of town to the other in 10 minutes over all the stuff to do/see when most of it I'm not all that interested in to begin with!
I hope you and Don can find a place where you'll truly be happy, and accepted. You have a dual edged situation, and I imagine it can be very difficult, at times, to deal with. I know the problems my oldest daughter and her partner face, living in 'small town', Georgia!
Looking forward to reading about your dice adventure. I noticed it posted

Re: Do you use divination?
Well at the risk of sounding like a crazy cat lady here, just wanted to mention that my cat actually drew my daily tarot card today. Seriously. She was laying down next to me, and I spread the cards out, and looked at her and said 'Do you want to pick?'. And after a moment she put her paw out and placed it on the cards. She picked the eight of swords. I thought it was kind of interesting, because she seemed to take it pretty seriously and wasn't batting at or playing with the cards. I held it up for her and she kinda sniffed at it, and then walked away. Do any of you have animals that get involved in what you're doing? I mean, my dog will sometimes run in, but that's just because she wants to be the center of my attention. With the cat it seems a little different.

Re: Do you use divination?
Rebecca...how cool!!! And yes, the only inside animal we have is our cat, Goober, and if I'm sitting in the floor to do a Tarot reading, or use my pendulum, sometimes he will come and lay along side me, or....he has actually stopped me from drawing the cards once.....he layed down on top of them, and would NOT get up. I picked him up, moved him to the side and before I could get turned back to the cards, he was laying on them again. I gave up. I have no idea why he stopped me from drawing that one time. He's never assisted me in drawing, though. Next time I do a reading, I'll have to see, if he's around, if he wants to help. Can't hurt to try lol....

Re: Do you use divination?
I most definitely believe cats can have a 'say' so to speak. With mine, it's usually I've been pondering something, usually for day, driving myself nuts for an answer. Then out of the blue, I'll ask my oldest cat who happens to sleep next to my head....my question. Within minutes, the answer will pop into my head..and I don't think it's my "Spirit Guide"...she 'feels' different. Besides, she is always in there talking...well most days!

Re: Do you use divination?
Our kitty recently told us what her name is. Basically we just threw names at her until she responded to one. Turns out her name is Min.
I have been holding off on using my tarot cards for the last few days. And I have been thinking I want to start using my celtic tree oracle deck again. But I feel the need to cleanse them before using them, and I just don't have the energy for it lately. There is a good ritual listed in 'Exploring the Pagan Path' for doing this. So... eventually I'll get there.

Re: Do you use divination?
Hope you get your energy back and get the deck cleansed, so you can start to use it again.

Re: Do you use divination?
Rebecca..nice that Min let you know what her name is!
I liked that ritual in Exploring The Pagan Path! Fairly easy to do.
I hope you regain your energy and are able to do what you need and want to do!!!
