Hello all,

I stumbled across your board a couple days ago. What a great place! I have especially enjoyed reading the Exploration Circle. I'm a Pagan, but frankly I'm not used to admitting it, or even defining it. I was raised Catholic, but it just felt all wrong. For a while I would state that I believed in nothing at all, but that felt wrong too. I respect nature, and believe that Earth is our Mother. I have a shrine to the four elements in my home, it just feels right. I've felt this way for a long time, but it's just not something you can discuss with a lot of people. Especially when you're the new people in a small rural town full of Lutherans. I've been looking for a place where I can discuss things with like minded people, and just explore who I really am. While I respect the time honored teenage tradition of trying on identities, I am relieved to find a place that isn't brimming with teenagers who think they are vampires. I'm 33 years old and I'm pretty serious about finding myself, just lacking direction and looking forward to having some good conversations.

I enjoy gardening, food preservation, yoga and (very)recently took up singing bluegrass harmony. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hello Rebecca, welcome on the Porch!

Thank you also for sharing so much about you - I'm sure you'll find like-minded people here on the board. I know it's hard to explore new and different ways of thinking while surrounded by people who think in a traditional way and don't understand why anyone would want anything else. Hopefully, you'll enjoy doing it here. emoticon

I'm looking forward to reading about your ideas and thoughts.

Welcome! emoticon

emoticon I've certainly had this issue with a few other pagan forums! We just created the Exploration Circle so that we all have a place to seriously explore things. We are very interested in any input from new members since we are still trying to figure it out ourselves. Please jump in!

I'm 32, so I'm right there with you about being beyond the teenage stage of [sign in to see URL]'m just now in the 30-something stage of exploration! But I do feel it is quite different, much more directed and serious.

Look forward to hearing more about you!

[sign in to see URL] and welcome!!! And, you've got a wonderful name (my real name is also [sign in to see URL] the mundane world, I go by Becky)

I am very pleased that you found us, and like what you've seen so far. We are in the process of reworking the board to flow better, as well as to add areas where we can explore who and where we are, individually, and collectively.

I am one of the oldest members of the group, I just turned 53, and am still searching. I think when we stop searching, we stop growing in many, many ways.

One of the things I love about our board is the fact that we're not run over with teenagers who think they are the strongest Witch, or the baddest ___________ (fill in the [sign in to see URL]). I love teens, and we'd accept any teens who are truly looking for a path that works for them. Just not those looking for a social outlet because 'it's cool'.

[sign in to see URL] singer! A lady after my own heart. I love to sing, but have not had much of a chance to since leaving the Christian church or since our coven disbanded. I need to start chanting again. What do you sing? Soprano, Alto...???

We truly are pleased to have you here, and I look forward to getting to know you better, learning from you, and hopefully, you can learn from us as well. We can explore our paths together emoticon

Welcome Rebecca! I totally understand your saying about a whole board of teen vampires! emoticon
Do not mind anyone [sign in to see URL] if they think they "Sparkle"....wrong place to be! emoticon
I'm 53 and just finding my [sign in to see URL] Earth based, tend to be drawn to the Native Indian way of life.
My husband and I sold our home going on 5 years ago, when our only son went off to college and we live full-time in an RV with 3 cats.
It's an interesting life, I love [sign in to see URL] it would not be for everyone. I just love that I can be so close to Nature this way.
[sign in to see URL] WELCOME to the Pagan Porch, hopefully you will enjoy your time spent here! emoticon

Hello again and thanks to all for the warm welcome!

Saijen, I could loosely be defined as a second soprano. That's what I sang in high school choir, but it's been a while. My range is a bit lower now... I'm thinking that I need to learn the baritone harmony part, only bring it into my range. I'm kinda winging it, so far. Fun though!

Queeny, I must admit that sounds like a lot of fun- you must go everywhere! How do the kitties like the open road?

TexasMadness, I agree. 30's exploration is a bit different from teenage exploration. For one thing, my hair stays the same color now... but really I feel like I've had a chance to make some observations at this point in life. I have come to some conclusions now that I would not have been able to arrive at in my youth.

Firlefans, that is indeed sticking point I run across- often it doesn't occur to folks that someone may not think the same way they do. It doesn't really offend me, because I see a lot of good in the people around me and after all, they don't know how I feel. But I always want to try and be so careful, because I think people can tell I'm not like them. I know that people can turn on 'different' in a hurry, if they happen to be ones who perceive different as threatening. Or if things are not presented in the correct way..

It's an interesting question, really. Why does 'different' equal 'threatening' in some minds?

I like to think it's actually part of an old survival mechanism of the animal brain. Different means unfamiliar, therefore unknown and potentially dangerous. Our human, thinking mind can get around that, but not while it's paralized by stress or fear.

That's why societies tend to turn on the "different" in times of stress, and are more accepting and lenient in good times. Just my take on this, however. emoticon

Rebecca, they don't seem to mind much at all. Two go down behind the couch (it lifts up and I have two soft cat beds under there) and one just kind of hangs off the [sign in to see URL] would be our clown [sign in to see URL] she is 'hanging'..

Because we are brought up to believe that 'different' can be dangerous.
It takes some getting used to and breaking old (in my case, very OLD) engrained habits and thoughts, before we can simply accept people for exactly what and who they are. Not what society thinks we should believe them to be.....

I have to [sign in to see URL] don't think I've ever seen a vampire 'sparkle' on [sign in to see URL]. Where have I been?????

I LOVE that pic of Ginger! What a ham!!!

Firle posted a link to a wonderfully written blog (the link is in the Pagan Life forum) that I really think we all should read. I read [sign in to see URL]'s 3 pages long, and well worth the time it takes to read. I was so impressed by it, that I commented!
