Re: March Book: Exploring The Pagan Path
I've read some of Raven Silverwolf's stuff. Don't recall which titles off the top of my head - it's been awhile! She is MUCH debated in pagan circles. Either seen as a total fraud just out to make a buck, or a good transition for young girls to become interested in paganism, or even a good resource for facts. The last one is a very minority view as most people think she has stretched a lot of the history she presents and all of that should be ignored.
I have found so many pagan books to be of low quality that I don't see hers as standing out as particularly bad compared to a lot of the rest. On the other hand, hers aren't books that I would recommend to anyone either!
I'm sooo close to being done with the current book guys!!!

Re: March Book: Exploring The Pagan Path
I guess I found sort of a cheesy quality to the Solitary Witch book. Kinda teen witchy, even though it wasn't specifically geared towards teens, though I see she's got other books that are. And it was a bit too 'spell happy' for my personal tastes. Definately going to explore some other books off of the reading list recommended in the back of Exploring the Pagan Path.

Re: March Book: Exploring The Pagan Path
Raven Silverwolf is a bit strong on the fluff, I think. I read her at the beginning of my path, and thought...Wow..someone I can understand. Then, as I read more, from others, I realized just how much fluff is involved with Raven's books. If you want a quick, easy read, and you're not really looking for solid, ADULT information, she's the way to go, but if you're in serious study, I am not sure she's where you need to be looking. I also have Solitary Witch, and it leaves some to be desired.

Re: March Book: Exploring The Pagan Path
Done! I know Firle hasn't checked in about the book in awhile. I'm guessing that she is otherwise understandably busy with everything going on. So I'm going to go ahead and start a thread about the book. Join in when you finish Firle! Or even just talk about the parts you have read.

Re: March/April Book: Exploring The Pagan Path
Heee. I read about three chapters, and haven't been able to do more. But I'll just read your discussions and if something sounds interesting, I'll pick up the book and read a chapter quickly.
I just wish I had gotten my Kindle earlier, I would have bought the ebook version of it. Might have made reading it easier.

Re: March/April Book: Exploring The Pagan Path
Firle, it was kind of a hard book to really get interested in, in places. At least for me. I saw some good points, and some fluff, and the fluff is what's hard for me, sometimes. But, I think understanding what is fluff is as important as understanding the good bits you can take away, too. So, I held on. For you, we all understood that you were having a lot going on, and the book was not the most important thing you were having to deal with...so, as far as I'm concerned, it's fine! I imagine you'll still be able to post replies and opinions based on the things we post. Don't sweat it!
