A Low Impact Woodland Home

I found this linked on FB by Fenyx, but it was so fascinating that I wanted to share it here. This is all about living comfortably with minimal impact on the environment. This one is in Wales, but it would probably work in many regions. And may I just say ... Hobbit Home? emoticon

I've seen the exterior of that building before but I haven't seen the whole site. Wow!

When we built the gardenhouse, we seriously considered making it a Hobbit House. I still want to build [sign in to see URL] cool!

Firle they are called Hobbit Holes, and they are the most awesome houses. Do you know who Lani is? She and I met in person quite a few years ago at a campout for another homesteading site. A bunch of us met at Woolley Hollow Campground just outside of Little Rock, AR (you probably remember all of that). Anyway, she and I got to talking about these houses the other night in FB, and we decided that she and her family are going to move to this side of the state (they live in West, TN, I'm in East, TN), and we're going to buy a large hill. Me and DH will build our home on one side of the hill, they'll build on the other side, and we'll have a tunnel between the 2 that acts as a storage/craft room. ....we had a blast dreaming of our Hobbit Holes, designing them in our heads as we [sign in to see URL]'d be run as much by solar power as possible, and in the center of the tunnel, but on top of the ground, we'd have a gazebo that is screened for warm weather and glassed in for cool/cold weather, with heat, and the floor would be specialized glass that would double as a skylight for the tunnel room. emoticon I simply adore these houses.
