Used a feature on my new oven...

Well, it's not that new. I guess we've had it installed for a year or more. But it's SUPER fancy. I almost always just "bake" or "broil" with it but it also has convection bake (you choose the number of shelves), warming and proofing functions. I finally found a resource that told me that "warm" was 170F and "proof" was 100F. The warm function is perfect for drying herbs! So I've been doing some of that lately.

But the new one is super cool. There's a "Delay Start" feature. I always thought that was kinda weird but I could see the usefulness on certain occasions. You can set the oven to come on to a certain temperature at a certain time of day and run for a prescribed period of time. I had read online that this is used by Orthodox Jews who keep the Sabbath and don't use ANY "machine" on that day. So they essentially cheat and turn it on the day BEFORE and then still get a hot meal! emoticon

Anyway, either hubby or I are always home to cook dinner (unless we are eating out!) so this didn't seem useful to [sign in to see URL] he went out of town! When it's raining, the traffic is a nightmare picking up Willa was school so I knew she would be cranky and hungry by the time we got home and wouldn't put up with me cooking anything. There were no leftovers to heat in the microwave either! We are really trying to cut down on eating out, so I made a casserole in the morning and left it in the oven with the Delay Start thing going. I have to admit that I half expected to come home and find the house burned down, but instead we walked in just 5 minutes after the timer went off and the house smelled divine! Hot dinner was on the table in minutes and we were both happy! emoticon

It has 2 small 'eyes', one 'eye' that can be either large or small, one lg 'eye' and a warmer 'eye'. The oven is self cleaning (which has come in really [sign in to see URL] SO easy to use)

We now have a separate cooktop and a wall oven. The cooktop is an [sign in to see URL] it's still not installed! We are using the old one. The oven is a GE Profile Single/Double oven. It's two ovens in the space of one. I LOVE it. They have a newer (and WAY more expensive) version now [url=[sign in to see URL] but it looks the same, just even more fancy features and another $1000!

We got ours right at the phase out of that model and the store was having a sale. It was still a splurge compared to the cheapest $900 oven but it's been well worth it!

I have an old Miele oven and top (which I actually won in a raffle a long time ago!). I like it a lot. The oven has several functions, and I often use the convection one. I can also set it on a timer that works like the delay function you mentioned, but I haven't used it often.

The top is a ceran field, and it's very nice and easy to use and clean. Love it.

Texas, that oven is really nice looking. I wish my kitchen was big enough to support a wall oven. We had one when I was growing up, and it was so much easier than using an oven in a [sign in to see URL] at eye level. I'd have to give up way too much cabinet space for that, though. WHEN (tryin to be positive here) my DH and I build our own house, the kitchen is going to be nice and big, and hopefully I can do a wall oven.

I think I posted photos of my 'new' range when we got it in the Fall of 2010. Hard to believe I've had it over a year already. I've managed to keep it looking brand new! LOL

Firle, sometimes the best stuff is stuff we play little for, or is given to us. The last range I had was a Caloric, and it was OLD, but it worked really well, until it finally just blew up (pretty literally). We didn't pay a dime for that [sign in to see URL] it lasted us from 2000 till it blew in 2010, and it was already probably 25-30 yrs old when we got [sign in to see URL] not older. Same with our last refrigerator. It was given to us in 2000, and was a good 35 yrs old when we got it, and it finally died last summer. [sign in to see URL] yours while it's still working!!!
