merry meet!
greetings! I'm Magpie from rural South Carolina. My husband of almost 10 years and my nearly 5 year old daughter live on 300+ acres with my in-laws, surrounded by national forest. We have 2 veggie gardens, an herb garden, lots of flowers, a couple dozen beef cattle, a couple of cats, a dog and will have bees in about a month, and with luck, will get chickens again in a few weeks.
I've been pagan for about 15 years following an eclectic path.

Re: merry meet!
Welcome Magpie!
I've driven through your neck of the woods and it's gorgeous country. Sounds like you have quite an operation going there - I can't wait to here more about it!
I have some beehives but they are woefully neglected and I hope to change that this year. I started having fairly severe reactions to the stings and my husband put his foot down about me messing with the hives while I was pregnant with my now 2 year old. Well, pregnant again, he wants me to skip another spring! But I hope to have someone else trained up on working with them so they aren't neglected since I think we will have a good honey flow this year!
Welcome again, feel free to jump right in on any of our conversations. We love to here from our new members!

Re: merry meet!
Hello magpie, welcome on board!
Your place sounds lovely! You mention beef cattle, so you're not milking? Makes life a lot easier, but I probably couldn't resist the temptation of having a milk-producing beast around with so much space.
Glad you found your way here, I'm very much looking forward to your tales about the animals and your farm.
Welcome!

Re: merry meet!
no dairy beasts around here currently! The cattle are my brother-in-law's, we just help with them when needed, as they're pretty self-sustaining with hay in the winter, and good pasture rotation.
We keep talking about having a couple of dairy goats, but need to get someone else on board to milk for the occasional weekends we get away!

Re: merry meet!
Hi and Welcome, Magpie! LOVE your name!!
Your homestead sounds heavenly, and I can't wait to hear more about it, and the things you and your family get into.
Since you have 2 veggie gardens, I imagine you do quite a bit of canning and freezing, as well as doing home made items (pickles, juices, etc). Would love to hear of all the things you do.
May I ask how you came to us? Just curious, as we are working on getting word out about our board, so would like to know what is working and what is not. Thanks
Looking forward to your posts, and hopefully a mutual teaching/learning experience for all concerned.
