Re: Seeds and planting

Thanks for the rundown! I did get in there more this weekend and there is some semblance of order... for now. Once the vines start taking off it will be a matter of keeping them trimmed back. I put some black garden fabric down in a few areas to keep things at bay. Pulled a lot of weeds and added them to my MONSTER compost square, I am just composting shredded leaves, clippings, weeds etc. for a year there to condition the soil, and then it will be another garden bed.

Poor DH got put to work busting sod for new raised beds... emoticon

I'm not sure how things are where you are...but watch getting stuff out of those flower beds. I'm sure you've seen my post on the little snake that I almost grabbed in one of my flower beds.

Since this thread was about my seeds...I'm proud to announce...I HAVE BABIES! emoticon
One of my Basil and 2 of my Thyme have sprouted. They were planted on 3-22-12, and already got sprouts. I've got them circled in yellow, cause the photos are not the best in the world...lol

Yay, babies! It's such a great feeling when those little seeds start popping up! emoticon

No, I did not see your post on the snake! Eeek! I am always a little paranoid about them, we are right on the edge of bluff country AKA where the rattle snakes like to hang out. I am always afraid one will get lost and wander into my garden. We do have lots of toads, but haven't seen any yet this year.

Yeah seedlings! It's so much fun to see them first pop through the soil. I'm not sure when I get around to starting seeds again. I've still got so many to plant out and nowhere to put them! emoticon

Things are perking right along with these seeds and seedlings. The ones that first came up are now almost too long for the top to be on the tray, but others still need the top, so....gotta go this week and get my containers I want and start transplanting the taller herbs already!!!

As soon as I get some containers and get stuff moved, I'll post pics.

DH's tomato and cabbage are doing well, also. He needs to get them into the ground soon!

I LOVE doing things this way. It's neat to start things from seeds, and watch it from the very beginning...knowing you nurtured it into being! Sometimes starting off with the actual plant is easier, but it's not as rewarding.

I noticed, during a 'tour' around the yard this morning, that some Wisteria we got from my Dad's place, before the tornadoes took it, is doing very well where we planted it. I'm not sure if it's one we started from seed, or if it's a cutting, but we planted it last Fall, and it's full of it's signature silvery/green leaves. It probably won't bloom till next year, if then, but it's growing and doing well.

Ooo, wisteria is pretty! I just googled it because I wasn't sure what it looked like. I'm glad that it's growing for you!

I just took my dog for a walk, and there are little white and purple violets in all the yards all over town! Yay! emoticon Usually they are the first flower we see in spring, but this year a lot of things beat them. Straaaange weather!

This is the first year I have lived in this house all the time. Last year I was just here on weekends. It was always a treat to come down to the house and see what had budded while we were gone. This year I'm enjoying watching the day to day changes. emoticon

I just uploaded all my pictures to Queenys from Mount Shasta where we had snow plowed off the side of the road that had to be over 9 feet deep......and pictures of the Sundial Bridge...where plants were growing and butterflies were eating and fishermen were enjoying a day fishing on the Sacrament river..all within 2 hours of each other! emoticon

OH HON...I'm so happy! A bit of Dad's place has found a new home. Planted with love, it had to grow! emoticon
