Yes, yes and YES!!!!! There HAS to be some ethics invovled, regardless...even if it's just to protect those you love. Muladzh, as for what you're talking about....that should go without saying. If the life of someone is in danger, all the 'asking' part of ethics should be tossed out the door and do what needs doing! It's the same with any protection. If an intruder comes into your home with the intent to harm..I'll be damned if I'm going to ask his permissing to shoot his ass! I'll shoot first, THEN ask! Same goes for magic. I realize there are those who are going to do what they're going to do, regardless, but unless I know that the person wants my help, I refuse to do anything, unless they are in a life or death situation. It's not my place to bulldoze my way into someone else's situations and try to be a hero and fix everything. Not saying that any of you are doing that, I know you'd not do it that way....but there are those who will, and do...and, in my opinion, that's wrong! I am sorry that your student had such a horrible experience. I'm very glad you were there to prevent her death!! I'm sure she was, as well. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf1)Fri, 29 Jun 2012 02:19:56 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243658,from=rss#post243658https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243658,from=rss#post243658muladzh, I am so sorry for those who have been attacked, and passed on because of this evil. I'm glad you were able to save this girl, though it's a sad loss that she is no longer a student. When, I decided to go down this Path, I decided NOT to be a practicing witch. I cast no spells, etc. But my son insisted that I wear a charm he made for me. I understand it took him 3 months to make, using somethings that were probably illegal, and some very special rain water, gathered at a special time of year and place. He said, it was not because of what I was doing that I should never take it off. But it was for protection for what HE was doing...to protect me from anything wanting to lash out at him by hurting me. So as far as ethics are concerned, they affect us all, whether we are willing participants or not. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Thu, 28 Jun 2012 21:41:43 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243646,from=rss#post243646https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243646,from=rss#post243646The backlash is a real danger to many people - a student of mine recently became the subject of a malicious 'magick' attack, that nearly killed her. Had she not been staying at my house the weekend she was attacked, she would be dead. All she had done, was to have recognized an 'evil' male witch, who determined that she was a threat. I dealt with that incident the same way I deal with all of them, and the lady in question lived - the recovery was rapid, and she is no longer a student - it scared her too much. The Ethics of magickal influence is not an issue, when the safety of it, or lack thereof is a real danger. Recently, there have been a number of incidents, where used to exploit little witches - little in ability not stature. Some have died, though no link to the cause was ever proven - so be very careful when practicing the craft - there are nasty people roaming around, who would think nothing in influencing your life away. The only fun thing about this scary subject is that sometimes they try it on me.nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Thu, 28 Jun 2012 04:59:42 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243638,from=rss#post243638https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243638,from=rss#post243638 Muladzh, I agree with Queeny's statement!!! A simple separation spell may work for that, and those are so easy to do. I've got to work on one for a friend of mine who has asked for help with her ex and her kids. The ex has physically abused the kids when he's had them, but, like your situation, the law has not seen fit to do anything about it....so, I am. If you're interested, at all, in knowing how to do something like what I'm about to do, PM me and I'll explain to you what and how I do. I was asked for my help, so, as far as I am concerned, permission was given. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf1)Thu, 14 Jun 2012 05:00:12 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243536,from=rss#post243536https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p243536,from=rss#post243536I'm not comfortable enough with spells to do them, but even if I was, for the most part, I would stay away from anything that would take away free will. I say for the most part because if I had the necessary knowledge and experience, I would use a spell on one person and I wouldn't care what happened to her because of it. My nieces mother (not sister in law) is a horrible person who neglects her children in the worst way. Let her babies (including my niece)get diaper rash so bad they bled. Left her youngest (six months old) in the care of my eight year old niece while she went and ran around town, making sure to tell my niece that if anything happened to the baby it would be my niece's fault. She has three times placed her daughters in the path of predatory men in order to shack up for however long the men would pay the bills with no care to what happened to my niece and her sisters. She routinely doesn't provide proper food, clean clothing, or even utilities. And is always dumping the children at whoever's house she can so she can go play. The authorities have been called numerous times to no avail. So if I had the experience and knowledge to place some sort of binding spell on her so she could take no actions that would neglect or endanger her children, I would do it. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Syrakynn)Wed, 13 Jun 2012 04:18:23 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242777,from=rss#post242777https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242777,from=rss#post242777Cool.... thanks for explaining!! I basically only use the sage smudge stick and...depending on where I am and what's going on..will chant....but most of the time, I just have a phrase I will repeat at each area of the home that is an opening..windows, doors (interior and exterior) openings to attics, any cracks around windows/doors...and I do both inside and out. If I feel more uncomfortable in one area, I'll spend more time there..and that's where I will do a very quiet chant. I rarely allow a person to go with me, unless they are more comfortable (not the trusting type and fear I may run off with the family jewels or something)...but that's more for my own benefit than anything else. I'm rather self conscious, so prefer to do what I do, alone. I work better that way on things like that. Shoot, I won't even do a spell or ritual with my husband in the same room with me. Partially because he's not Pagan and doesn't understand, and partially because it just kind of unnerves me somewhat. On extremely rare ocassions, I may take my Athame with me....it just comforts me to have something sharp in my one hand..lol. I'm not afraid of the spirits that lurk in the dark, I'm afraid of the corporal beings that lurk in the dark! Ghosts and such don't scare me....that's not to say if one suddenly materialized in front of me, it wouldn't surprise the crap out of me and cause my heart to end up in my throat.....but that's not fear, it's extreme surprise. Anyway.... thanks again for your explanation nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf1)Mon, 16 Apr 2012 04:11:20 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242767,from=rss#post242767https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242767,from=rss#post242767Saijen SilverWolf1 wrote: Oh, I can certainly understand about the disability checks. I can always use ideas when I'm doing things like that, and want to try something different...just to see if it's something I'd like to incorporate. I've tried a few things, and rejected about 99.9% of them. For clients: I usually light a white candle for each room of the house and a blue candle as well for each room, I have already set up several items on a table or countertop that I may need as well. Incense to clear the air, Sage to purify, Oil that I burn in a pan on the stove as well as oil that I might spray around, Salt and Water and then I will use Crystals for the appearance of trapping a spirit so that I can cleanse the more dangerous areas of the home such as a stairwell or a balcony. I Then walk around with my Black die asking and chanting to see if each room is cleansed, of course during this time I am doing wild things like, avoiding possession, dodging spiritual attacks, etc and it usually lasts 2-6 hours if I am doing so for a client. Now for my own cleansings of course I use the same items minus the crystals, salt and water and chanting which are all for the benefit of the client and do a simple cleaning, Though of course I believe its all psychological and benefits only those who come into my home that day or week, The smell alone can make you feel relaxed and at ease.  :devilfire: nondisclosed_email@example.com (Irishdize)Fri, 13 Apr 2012 17:08:08 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242743,from=rss#post242743https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242743,from=rss#post242743Oh, I can certainly understand about the disability checks. Or, if I were creating artistic pieces for the general public, you better believe I'd charge. LOL I am protected against such spells so Im again not worried about it. If a Witch were to cast say a love spell for my ex to Get me away from Don, It wouldnt work. So... The reason that I charge is because Im on a very limited income with my disability checks, A House cleansing requires 2 candles for each room, sage, incense, oils, salt and Holy Water and stones and Gems generally, thats money that I cant afford at all, I barely survive with my bills, rent and Grocery needs and then I have 2 cats that need constant food, litter and medical care, I dont slack on animals, they are dependent on us so if they need something, thats just the way I am. Spells require candles and various herbs as well and then not to mention 1-6 hours of my time where I spend dancing to raise energy, I just feel that I dont have the time, energy and money to do it for free and you know that if I was a freebie, Id be getting constant calls from my current and new clients and Id never have any spare time for me or Don. So when asked I tell clients that I have bills to pay just like them, however, unlike most Psychics/Spellcasters, I do take Trade! Music cds, Dvds, Candles, Oils, etc, if a Person really cannot afford my services, I ask for something I know that I can use or if nothing else, something I can sell very easily to get the money that I need for whatever I am doing for them. Shadakism doesnt have a rede or any such rule on such things, It simply says in the Core 8 that we should live the best lives that we can while doing as little harm as we can. For a client who really is being harmed by someone and needs a Hex or a curse, If I said no, that to me would cause them harm and the person doing the harm would just get away with it. The Law of Return does come back on people but often not in the way we think it does. I guess I have my answer in a sense from the struggle I was going through, I probably am now and will always be a Traditional Witch because that is how I was raised but we'll see Oh and I will post the books in the Library, I found at least 8 so far that I am looking forward to getting! :devilfire: nondisclosed_email@example.com (Irishdize)Tue, 10 Apr 2012 13:26:46 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242715,from=rss#post242715https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242715,from=rss#post242715Terry...any books you'd like to share, or titles, feel free to post them in the Library.....that's what it's there for, so we can share books we think others may find interesting, or fun. Well For a client, there is no type of spell that is off limits, I want them to know that no matter what their needs are, I can do it for them. Whatever is sent out comes back on them anyways so if they hire me to do a curse and it works, whatever energy was sent out does seem to come back but never on me, but on the person who wanted the curse done and thats always been my experiences so I dont worry about such things to be honest, love spells, well, most people who want love spells done do want a specific person and I see nothing wrong with that approach to the spell, if the person isnt meant to be draw away or to the person who wants them, the spell simply wont work or would take more energy or cash and the client wouldnt want to continue with it. What I am trying to figure out for my own spiritual path is very strange I suppose, I am a deep thinker, nothing is on a surface level for me and I suppose I should post a new thread and try to make sense of it there, I know I can be a Witch and am one as thats how I was raised but I only believe in The Goddess and yet to me The Goddess is Nature/The Universe so technically I am a Pantheist (ish) Witch? But thats where the problems for me begin, hehe but I will do that, I will post and ask later when I get back from Easter with Don and his family tomorrow. I am soooo excited, I found some books on Amazon that I want to order (when money comes in) that sound very interesting and are more my speed as a Witch and less Wiccan or New Agey which so many books seem to be focused on these days, I will share the Titles if anyone has interest!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Irishdize)Sun, 08 Apr 2012 16:58:29 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242699,from=rss#post242699https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242699,from=rss#post242699Terry, the one thing I want to make sure to mention is that is does not matter if you're male or female when it comes to the paths of Paganism....Dianic Wicca, or any other...we are all equal and accepted, regardless. Goddess spirituality even though The Goddess is actually just The Universe/Nature? I dont know. OT I know, lol, well I started and couldnt finish!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Irishdize)Sat, 07 Apr 2012 17:31:36 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242688,from=rss#post242688https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242688,from=rss#post242688Interesting views... not going to post mine just yet... see if there are any others who want to post on this before I do. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf1)Sat, 07 Apr 2012 03:36:17 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242686,from=rss#post242686https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242686,from=rss#post242686I don't do magic...may never. I do ask my Spirit guide and her kind for aid at times...for others who surround me. Like sending "healing energy" to friends here who may need it...I don't do any magic to get it there...I ask my Guide to bring it to them... but that is not any different than asking for help in saving a stray animal or help protect our Earth Mother... The politics of what is right or wrong or moral or not does not come into my thought process. I learned a long time ago, that something done with a loving heart, can only help, never hurt. The guides won't allow it to. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Fri, 06 Apr 2012 21:18:19 +0000 Re: Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242669,from=rss#post242669https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242669,from=rss#post242669Hmm... this is a good question. Some people would be horrified to discover that someone did a spell for their benefit without their permission. Others might feel that it's akin to saying a prayer for someone. Lots of people say prayers for others without the knowledge of person they're praying for. I guess that brings up another question. Is praying for someone okay if you don't have their permission? I don't actually know a lot of people who are Pagan or Wiccan. Most people I know go to a Christian church and would view magic done on their behalf as something dirty or bad. I wouldn't bother, since it would only offend them. If I had a Pagan friend, I assume that I would feel comfortable discussing it with them beforehand. Personally, I don't think I would do a spell for someone without their knowledge. (I almost never do spells anyway, the comfort level is just not there yet.) I might ask the Spirits to give a person strength, or something along those lines. But I wouldn't perform a ritual or spell. I know that some people pray for me. My father, maybe random other people, I'm not sure. It doesn't bother me that my Dad prays for me, because I know he loves me as I am, and it's his way of sending me positive energy. As far as random Christians who might want to pray for me to 'see the light'... I view that as harmless, though maybe a little annoying. Nothing I can do about it, but I do not believe it will hurt me. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rebecca Wraenna)Wed, 04 Apr 2012 23:14:22 +0000 Magic and Ethicshttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242668,from=rss#post242668https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p242668,from=rss#post242668Many groups feel that any magic performed on/for another person, without that person's knowledge or permission, is unethical...even if it's to benefit that person. Others feel that, as long as it's to benefit the person, it's OK. What are your feelings? nondisclosed_email@example.com (Saijen SilverWolf1)Wed, 04 Apr 2012 19:28:40 +0000
