Re: Dandelion Spirit Prayer

[sign in to see URL] set your dyes, use some vinegar (white) and salt. About a cup of vinegar, and a couple of tablespoons of salt AS you dye. that will help set your colors. You may still get some bleeding, but it won't be as bad.

You could probably put your towels back into some cold water with the vinegar and salt, and do a short wash cycle and see if that will help set... or, take one towel, let it soak in some cool water with vinegar and salt, then wash it to see if it bleeds any.

I always use vinegar and salt, even if using commercial dyes.

Re: Dandelion Spirit Prayer

Thanks for the tips & link, Saijen! I will have to give that a try next time I stumble across those towels.

So I looked for the book I had in mind, which was an herb book with a whole section on dye gardens. And I could not find that book anywhere! I think it may actually belong to my mother, in which case I'll have to check out her book shelf next time I visit.

I did find a Reader's Digest book of crafts and hobbies and it said to use one ounce of flowers for each ounce of yarn, but it didn't have anything specific on buttercups. In general, you're supposed to crush the plantstuff, barely cover with water (with vinegar!) and soak overnight to make your dye.

I just typed in Dye Gardens in the search engine, and got a huge list. These 2 seemed to be pretty good. I put both into a Dye Garden folder in my favorites, so that I can pull them up at a later date. emoticon

That's a lovely little prayer, Rebecca. Thank you for sharing it. I'm sure it works without dandelions, too.
