I know [sign in to see URL] know, I've got the same background knowledge as you.

But like I [sign in to see URL] by example, someday "we'll shine" and everyone will take notice. Already other faiths memberships are waning, and our ranks grow by the day. emoticon

Re: News: Losing Faith

MY progress in "faith" has been:

Believe in a "Great Spirit" (child raised by agnostics, with no religious training at all but always felt a connection to something <bigger>).
To Christian after the rest of my family became Christians.
To Christian in name only (teenage years)
To strong Christian for awhile (even "led others to Christ")
To losing my faith in anything (after my beloved Grandmothers death and the hell in my life afterwards)
To Pagan Exploration (no belief in gods, just a higher spirit/Energy)
To Atheist
To Pagan Exploration (no belief in gods, just a higher spirit/Energy)
To "almost" Christian but really kind of wandering.

Having said all of that...... and going back to the original post...

I think Christians view a "fallen brother/sister in Christ" aka: Atheist as something to be pitied and likely the work of "the devil".

A former Christian talking Pagan???? Oh now they're a devil worshiper and to be avoided/feared!! :devilfire:

One of my primary problems is that I never really believed in the devil or hell.

Anyone come across Pastor Rob Bell formerly of Mars Hill Church in Grand Rapids, MI?

He came out as believing "Love Wins" and doesn't believe in hell.
Huge controversy a couple years ago and was even featured on CNN a couple of times.

Well I (and my family) knew him way back before he even became a pastor on his own.

I agree with him.

Thus no matter WHAT I believe at the current moment (Christian with no Hell, Pagan leanings, New Age leanings, Agnostic leanings)........ I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to those of the conservative Christian faith (at least those in my extended family's belief) emoticon

Ultimately I personally believe in Energy. We are all energy, we all affect energy which is literally EVERYTHING.

Other then that........ I really don't know anymore.

I think most of us go around and around. That is why we call this a "Path"...it winds, changes, comes back on itself. It's not a straight two-laned highway to some place.
It's a winding Path that we follow from without and mostly from within.
I do believe in the energy of everything around me, from my fellow human beings down to every plant on this Earth, even in the fact that solid rock has energy.
I believe some can gather that energy, channel that energy, and most all do good with it.
I would decidedly be a naturalist pagan, or as I was once called, an "Earth Witch"..but I do believe in Goddesses and Gods, so I guess you could say I believe in God, just not as a single parent. emoticon
Mostly I guess I believe in the power of love, of understanding, patience, caring and of coexisting.... emoticon
I've always liked the below [sign in to see URL] asks, what to me is the ultimate questions. And it sums me up pretty well.... emoticon

Re: News: Losing Faith

It is so interesting, to me, how many Former Christians there are in Paganism!!! it's like a light finally came on, and we finally 'get it'. We're getting back to our true roots, not the ones forced on ancestors centuries ago.

Queeny, I, like you, believe in God, just not as a single being. And, I am not at all sure that God is what is as touted in the Bible. To some degree, perhaps, but not to the extent it's been written down. There are way too many contradictions in the [sign in to see URL] leaning very much toward [sign in to see URL] leaning very much toward being very Patriarchal and demanding and just downright mean! That just screams 'man's will' to me, rather than a God's will.

Someone pointed out to me a few years ago that the Christian God demands you obey [sign in to see URL] the Pagan dieties, are at YOUR command. If you were to follow someone, would you follow a leader who *demands* you kill those unlike you, or someone to *suggests* you treat those people with care and respect in order to garner your own care and respect. I'll follow the latter, thank you very much! I'd rather follow a diety that is at MY command, yet is free to make life living suggestions, rather than one who makes constant demands of me.

And yes, our Path is windy, twisty and has some pretty intense curves in it. Much more interesting than the narrow path that is stated in the Bible. It states: Matthew 7:12-14 12"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. 13"Enter ye in the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and braod is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14"Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." KJV...
[sign in to see URL] Christian path is very narrow, and if you step off the path anywhere, you're deemed backslidden, unfit, a bad person, etc, etc, etc.
Funny, though, that they say the other path is also straight, but wide. It's not straight in the [sign in to see URL] may only be wide in places. The difference [sign in to see URL]'re allowed to wander off the Path without issue. Sometimes, there's a tiny side path you just HAVE to take. Without those, you gain no life experience, no knowledge, no wisdom.

It is a shame that, if you're not on that narrow path, you're labled with some very negative labels. You're not seen for the good that you do, only that all the good you do goes to waste, [sign in to see URL] all KNOW you can't get into Heaven by doing good works!!! emoticon Guess it's a good thing I'm not planning on GOING to [sign in to see URL]'ll be going to the [sign in to see URL] you very much!

[sign in to see URL] heard of Rob Bell, but sounds like he has a better grasp of the reality of it all than most! Good for him!!!

I am a much happier person on this Path than I ever was on the Christian Path. I even gossip less, and rarely make attempts to 'stick it' to my fellow man. Only if they truly deserve it.

I was in a situation the other [sign in to see URL] was at a business, where I was doing some work with a friend, and another friend came in. She and friend 1 were talking about a local young man's funeral, and friend 2 kept saying "I should be saying this, but I'm going to anyway".... and I'm [sign in to see URL] is a Christian!! I know friend 2 is. Friend 1 goes to church, but I really don't think she's truly 'there'...she's much more Pagan than I think she realizes.
Friend 2 told me, when I first joined the Arts Council "Be careful how much you do. It won't be appreciated, so I wouldn't go overboard helping". My eyebrows shot up, and I know my mouth must have hit the floor. I have been told more times than I can say, how much what I do is appreciated. I feel more appreciated with this, than I've felt in YEARS! I don't do things to garner appreciation of others. I do them because I enjoy [sign in to see URL] and simple. If it's not [sign in to see URL] so be [sign in to see URL] I won't stop unless I stop enjoying! I finally told her I wasn't looking for appreciation, I was looking for something to occupy dead time I had and doing something I felt I would enjoy. And because I am not seeking that appreciation, it's really coming at me. I just do not get people who are so negative (and most claim to be [sign in to see URL]????)

[sign in to see URL] box, soap box, how I do love thee! emoticon I'll shut up now!

A 'GOD'...not the Bible GOD...
I believe there is some singular power in the Universe. That may be in some form or just energy... emoticon But 'it' made [sign in to see URL] divine intervention or a huge old big bang....
But we all come from [sign in to see URL] it's buried deep in our every cell. Some of us are feeling it, opening up to it, asking questions, changing ways, paths, lives...
There are more and more of us [sign in to see URL], we will be all there [sign in to see URL] 'truth'..in one way or another. emoticon emoticon
