The Paleo Solution......

This is the diet that my DH and I started this past Thursday. Some of the dishes have been good, some leave a LOT to be desired.

Tonight's was actually pretty good. It was suppose to be stir-fry beef, but, since we don't eat a lot of beef, I did venison.

I cut up some venison steaks into strips.

The base was olive [sign in to see URL] tsps, then sautee onions. Add the meat and a tablespoon of wheat-free tamari soy sauce. Toss frequently. When the meat is browned, add 1 cup of bell pepper strips (I added about a cup and a half of chopped bell pepper, as well as a dash of sesame oil), cook till peppers are slightly soft.

On a plate, divide a small bag of mixed greens between 2 plates. Top with meat mixture and add Balsamic vinegar.
It was actually really good, but I couldn't eat it all. For one thing, the venison was rather chewy. It was some that was given to us, and was processed by the guy who killed it. He had NO CLUE what he was doing. I spent a good 30 minutes cutting fat off the meat, as well as the membrane that is between the fat and the meat. There was enough of that to divide between my cat and all 3 dogs (just a bite each, but still!!!)

I got a pic of it all put together, and I'll try to remember to post it in the next few days.

Another of the meals that was [sign in to see URL] a part of it that was good... Baked salmon. Lightly coat a cookie sheet with coconut oil, lay the fish skin side down (if it has [sign in to see URL] not, the side the skin would be [sign in to see URL] can tell). Finely chop 2 tblsps of pecans. Sprinkle over the fish. Sprinkle 2 tsps of rosemary over that, then some sea salt to taste. Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. We really enjoyed that.

I have to [sign in to see URL] I never thought I would ever say [sign in to see URL]'m getting tired of eating!!!!! emoticon

I'm cooking 3 meals a [sign in to see URL] I'm not used to doing. Breakfast used to consist of a bowl of cereal, or some cottage cheese and fruit, or toast with [sign in to see URL] I even bothered with breakfast.

Lunch was usually a Healthy Choice Steamer or cottage cheese with [sign in to see URL] some such.

Then, I'd cook supper. [sign in to see URL] cooking 3 meals a day, and having 3 times the dishes to wash is for the [sign in to see URL], we're gonna keep trying.
We forgot to weigh ourselves before we started the diet, so we finally remembered to do that Friday evening. We'll weigh again this coming Friday evening.

DH started out at 235 and me at 208. We realize our scales weigh a bit lighter than the dr. office does, but it's about how much lost, rather than what the number is. If we've each lost 5 lbs, it will be 5 lbs, regardless of where we weigh.

I just hope we can manage this for the entire month!
We ARE going off of the diet for the day of the 13th. We had planned this cook-out LONG before we even knew about this diet, so we're going on with our plans, and we'll eat the same stuff everyone else [sign in to see URL] to the [sign in to see URL], the next day, back to business! emoticon

Sounds good, Saijen!

I broke the diet when I visited my dad last weekend, then I went and got myself some dark sunflower seed bread. That was a mistake!

It used to be my favorite bread, and so I ate a lot of it for a couple of days, with sausages and cream cheese. And my body is telling me it doesn't like the bread. Sinus trouble is back, digestion is not working as it should ... so I'll go back to paleo this week. I managed to cook dinner yesterday and had leftovers today.

I don't cook breakfast, I have a cut up apple, yoghurt and a handful of almonds for it. Then carrots, tomatoes and more yoghurt for snacks. It does get a bit boring, but I'm a terrible cook. I try to cook a meal during early afternoon, and go for a veggie stirfry in the evening. Not really how I like to live ... but better than bread all the time.

You might be surprised how your body reacts to the cookout on the 13th. Like Firle said, the reaction could be very telling!

We usually cook 2 meals a day - breakfast and dinner. We are all scattered for lunch so that's typically left overs, sandwiches or something like that. It DOES produce a lot of dishes to have so many homemade meals. But now that we are used to more dishes, I wouldn't have it any other way. If for whatever reason, we eat ready-made or restaurant food for a few days, I feel like crap. It's worth doing extra dishes to feel [sign in to see URL] just hope you guys start feeling more energy on this diet!

Yeah, I am wondering about how I'll feel after the 13th!

[sign in to see URL] first one is of the stir-fry from last night.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

And this was this morning's [sign in to see URL] stir-fry. Really yummy, but I couldn't eat it all. You can add eggs if you want, but we opted to leave the eggs out. Next time, I'll try it with the eggs. I used baby spinach in the mix.... you can also add salsa, if you wish, so the red you see in the photo is about 2 tsps of salsa mixed in.

So far, these are things I'd fix again, even if we're not on the diet. The salmon is another I'd do again.

DH had a dr. appt. this morning, and I know he's not lost ALL this weight just from doing this diet since Thursday, but he's lost over 30 pounds since he saw her 3 months ago! We both decided to weigh, just to see, today when he got home, and so far, I've lost 3 pounds since Thursday! Of course, we weighed later in the day, so I don't count that as an exact loss, because you weigh more in the evenings than in the [sign in to see URL], I'm sure I've lost some!

Re: The Paleo Solution......

DH and I did our weekly weigh-in, and he's lost 7 pounds, I've lost 6...
in the first week of this diet!!!!

I bought a new pair of black jeans the other day, to have for the theater, and I'll hang on to those, but I probably should have gotten the next size down! emoticon Yes, I've already lost almost a pant size. The ones I had were already getting a bit big, but they were worn so a bit more stretched out. I got the new ones home, and can almost fit my hand in, sideways, between my gut and the [sign in to see URL], [sign in to see URL] size smaller. I may try to go do that tomorrow before heading to the [sign in to see URL] have been in a size 24 for well over 25 [sign in to see URL], I think I can do a 22 [sign in to see URL] even a 20! I'll have to try them on before I buy this time! emoticon

We did go off the diet on Mother's Day, but we both held back some-what. I only ate one hamburger, not even a handfull of [sign in to see URL] downfall was my sister-in-law's Cherry Delight! It's cherry pie filling, cream cheese, butter, sweetened condensed milk all mixed together, in a graham cracker crust. I could eat that stuff till I get sick! I did eat more of it that I should have, but oddly enough, it was almost too much for me this time. I didn't even keep any here to have later. I was more interested in my pineapple pie, which is a lot less bad for me. The pie, I think I posted the recipe for here, but it's an 8oz can of crushed pineapple with juice, 16 oz of sour cream and 1 package of vanilla (or french vanilla) pudding. Mix all together, and put into a shortbread or graham cracker crust.

[sign in to see URL] diet is working. I can't tell that I have any more energy, really, and I don't feel cruddy if I eat some bread or such, so that's a good thing.

With the schedule right now, it's hard to manage the diet, but we know now how to get around that so we can grab fast food stuff. I had an apple/pecan salad from Wendy's last night, with a vinegarette dressing, DH heated up some left over hamburger patties, popped a sweet potato in the microwave (10 minutes and you have baked sweet tater) and a [sign in to see URL] things you can have on this diet. So, we're making it work!

Breakfast, for me, I've been doing boiled eggs and some fruit. Lunch is usually whatever I can fix quick (heated up burger patty or a salad)

We'll get there!!!!

Glad you are adjusting to the diet! It's always hard to make it work with when you don't have time to prep every single meal of the day. If I had all the time in the world, I'd cook everything I [sign in to see URL] that's not very realistic!

Re: The Paleo Solution......

I DID IT!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I ACTUALLY DID IT!!!!!!! emoticon emoticon

I weighed this [sign in to see URL] for the first time in over 28 years, I am UNDER 200 POUNDS!!!!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I weighed this morning, expecting to have [sign in to see URL] I've lost another 2 pounds! I am now at 198!!!! [sign in to see URL] DID IT!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I was almost in tears this morning, but didn't have time to cry in joy! I had to shower so I could go to my pain dr. appt. but this diet is working! I've lost 10 pounds in 4 weeks on this diet! My daughter (the one I'm going to see) has never seen me under 200 pounds! She just turned 28. I was 188 when I got pregnant with her, and was over 200 by the time she was born, and I couldn't lose [sign in to see URL] meds made me gain even more, till I got up to 270 pounds. That was what I weighed when I moved to my current location, 14 years ago. I have very slowly lost, but then would get [sign in to see URL] never was able to get below [sign in to see URL] I gained a bunch back, and got back up to about [sign in to see URL] started losing again, only to plateau at about [sign in to see URL] I started this diet! [sign in to see URL] can hardly believe I actually made it!! I'm so friggin proud of myself! emoticon
Now, to keep going, and keep losing! DH has lost about 11-12 pounds in 4 weeks on this diet! The scales at the dr. today said I was at 202, but they put 198 on my paperwork! I do realize weight fluctuates during the day, and you weigh more in the evenings than in the mornings, but [sign in to see URL]'ll even take the 202 on THEIR scales, cause the 202 before was on MY [sign in to see URL]'ve never made it to 202 on a doctor's [sign in to see URL], this is quite an accomplisment for me! I'm soo tickled! emoticon (can ya tell? LOL)

And the neat thing [sign in to see URL]'m really not missing the stuff we've cut out all that much. Sometimes I'd love to have some soup beans, cornbread and greens (the greens are OK), and, I may break down, eventually, and do [sign in to see URL] for the most part, we're doing this [sign in to see URL] not following it exactly, and it's working!!!
We still eat ice cream every once in a while. We eat dark chocolate if we just HAVE to have chocolate, and I make those pineapple [sign in to see URL] though they are not diet, and no artificial [sign in to see URL]'re not putting the weight on us!

I'm just so happy about [sign in to see URL], a diet that works, and I can do, [sign in to see URL]'M UNDER 200 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!

What I like best is that it seems to be easy for you. So glad it's working and not a terribly difficult diet to follow.

So, hurrah!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks, Firle. I know the loss would have been even more if we were following it to the letter, but we like the way we're doing [sign in to see URL] works well for both of us, and it's working to get the weight off.

We are both so pleased with the weight loss. We may, on ocassion, do things like soup beans, cornbread and such, but it won't be a frequent thing. And, the nice thing is, when we do 'slip' we don't stress over it, because it's so easy to just get back on the diet. I'm adding a few more of the recipes the next couple of days, and I'll try to remember to comment on [sign in to see URL] get some photos.

I just hope I can stick pretty close to this diet while in Texas. I do know I'll have to go off of it at least [sign in to see URL] I want some good Mexican food, and that would have to include refried beans and Spanish [sign in to see URL]. I'll probably feel like crap the next day, [sign in to see URL]'s only once.
My friend that I'm staying with, is even trying to help me stay on my diet. She asked what I can and can't [sign in to see URL], bless her, Goddess, for trying to do this for me!

I think you are doing it just right. Keep to it most of the time, but not so strictly that it's a chore.

And it's wonderful that your friend is trying to help you with that, as well. She's a great friend!
