Re: The Paleo Solution......

Well, just got back from the Dr. I was kind of disappointed that I only lost 6lbs but I know how my pants are fitting so I'm good.

She didn't yell at me too much when she saw the weight loss and my blood pressure was down to normal. The BP is not and easy thing to do when you suffer from that old sitcom disease. Married With Children.

Over all I feel pretty good about myself. I have a long way to go but I'm off to a good start. Good luck everyone.

Even that small weight loss is important - it shows your changes work! Yay for loose pants!

I agree, getting BP down to normal is an even more important archievement. Docs love it when that happens without meds.

You may still have a long way to go, but there is only one way to do it: Step by step. And even the longest journey starts with the first step. You're already down the road!

WOW BRO!!!! That is awesome!!! what do you mean ONLY 6 pounds????? That's really good.
 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

[sign in to see URL] did I say about the weight vs inches?????
I am SO proud of you!!!! When the docs see the results, I think they feel kind of silly for being doubters. And, the fact that you got your BP [sign in to see URL] is even bettter!!! Is your wife still giving you grief? [sign in to see URL] they do an A1C on you? If so, what was it? What was your last A1C? This will also help convince them that this is not a bad way to lose, and be healthier. Its not like you're not eating. And, on this diet, you eat plenty, for sure!!!

Keep up the awesome work!!! As Firle said, you can only do it one step at a [sign in to see URL] bro, you're already taking those steps and seeing progress! I'll be glad when we can get back on this diet full blown and get back to losing. I've put a lot of mine back on and it really irritates me that I have not had better will power. I'll be fine once we're back on it regularly.

Continued good luck!!!

Re: The Paleo Solution......

I am pretty happy with the results so far. My last A1C was a 6.2 but I know that it will be lower the next time.

Everyone is giving me grief. My wife tells me that I am making her and the kids feel bad because I am not eating with them. We eat at the same time but I am not eating the starches or the cakes and cookies and ice cream that they are eating. She still tells me that this diet is more expensive but I eat pretty much the same except no starches. I have the same amount of meat but I will eat a can of green beans and maybe a can of beets or carrots.

I would love to get her support on this but anymore I really don't care. I am sticking to it. She is still upset about me wanting to go hiking. She says that I could die out there. I said, "fine I will keep going the way I have been and die behind this computer. I just hope it happens soon." She wasn't too happy. I just can't win.

Sir, I'm afraid I've been absent for a long while and thus I do not know you well.

But the above quote is the most perplexing part of your post to me???

Walking/hiking is literally the absolute most NATURAL thing in the world for a human being to do.
Why would she be upset about that?

The diet..... okay... my wife is doing it and I've been studying the science and I'm not totally on board (altho I support her 100%).

But hiking?? That is awesome!! Please don't ever stop.

I feel there must be some history that I am unaware of here but I currently cannot think of how/why anyone would have a problem with anyone wanting to walk in nature and better their physical/spiritual/mental self?

Good luck to you!

Animal, I'm sorry that your family seems to be so unreasonable about your diet and hiking. Yes, starches are cheap - until now. Grain prices will go up, with the drought and all.

Have you ever told them it makes you sad when they say things like that? No blame, just showing your feelings. Maybe that'll help.

All the best for your diet and hiking plans!

Re: The Paleo Solution......

PC, I have a lot of health problems including diabetes, heart problems, back problems and a knee replacement gone bad. My biggest problem though is that I am 6' tall and weigh 370lbs.

Because of using these problems as excuses, all I have done for over ten years is sit on my butt and wish that it would all end. I am tired of feeling like that. I want to live not just exist.

Firle, I think a lot of her concern is more for her than me. She has more medical problems than I do and she is afraid to be by herself. I would never leave her alone. Our daughter will be here when I go to Tennessee. That or we find a cabin to rent down there and they go with us.

I do feel a lot better since I started this and I plan to stay on this diet until I meet my goals. I will have to eat potatoes, rice and pasta when on the trail because it packs light and cooks simple. Once off the trail I will go pack to Paleo.

Thanks again for the support.

Bro, I'm really sorry that the family is STILL giving you grief, even with a loss of weight and a better blood pressure. I had hoped that would show them that this is a good thing.

I can understand some of your wife's concerns about you being on the trail, especially with your diabetes, but sometimes, one has to do what one has to do, and I think if you're careful with the starches, you shouldn't experience much of a sugar spike, or a sudden drop. Do watch the heat, if it's warm. I forgot when you said you were going to do this.

As for food on the trail, it would be hard to pack Paleo, but don't totally go off of it. Meats and fruits as much as possible. Veggies would be harder, and heavier to carry enough to make a difference. We're doing some starches on our campout, due to lack of room for full Paleo, plus, we're not going to be alone.

I'm proud of you for sticking to your guns on this, and doing what is making you feel better, and will make you healthier. I do hope that your family will come around, soon!!!

Keep up the good work!!!! emoticon

Yes, Animal, follow your dreams!!!

Hiking and walking are wonderful exercise.

And the AT -- that's a dream not to be missed. It's a goal of mine and of my husband's too, to do the trail. We wilderness camp near where we live (and we love it) -- the trail would take some planning because of our animals. But we want to do it.

And like Curious said, what a great way to be in nature. You could dehydrate veggies for packing, even if you have to include some starches, too.

If you love nature, this will feed your soul.

Cat, you'll have to let me know if/when y'all decide to do the trail, too. I am about an hour from a good many points along the [sign in to see URL] I'm most familiar with Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Sevierville area than the others..... however, I have a GPS...

[sign in to see URL],and Cat, too... if y'all are able to do this, and find you need supplies while in this area, or just want to meet, let me know and I can do whatever I'm able to, to help... or to just come and meet.
